I like how this has NOTHING to do with why Noel should be the one to get revivified. Did not understand the assignment, but he's doing his own thing and we love to see it.
i think in a way it's him saying he doesn't wanna get revived. he didn't feel at home in his life, and like Mischa says later, this is a much more tragic end for him, which is actually what he would have wanted. like Space Age Bachelor Man, it's a song about what he wanted to be, not what he can be. actually if you think about it, none of there songs were about why they should go back except for Ocean and Jane. Noel's Lament is about the romanticised character Noel has created of himself in his head that he'll never get to be, Talia is about Mischa longing for unachievable love, Sugarcloud is about Constance realising how much life meant now that she's dead and about how she's glad she died, and Space Age Bachelor Man is about Ricky wanting to make a real impact in the way the people around him always made him feel like he couldn't (something that I, as an autistic person, really relate to personally). What The World Needs is about why Ocean getting revived is the right choice logistically, but the Ballad of Jane Doe is about why Jane getting revived is the right choice morally, and in that sense What The World Needs and The Ballad of Jane Doe are identically different in a way that none of the other songs quite are. also i thought your comment was very funny :)
@@juniperberryyyy tbh I fell like Mischa’s songs also give a reason for him to go back. We see in his introduction and monologue that his life is terrible and that he has become the angriest boy in town because of that, and “This song is awesome” shows us that he actually has a healthy way of letting out his anger, not once is he shown as aggressive (verbally yes but he is European so🤷♀️). And in Talia we see that he is the only one in the group that has established hopes and derrames, and that he was close to making his life better, even if Talia was a catfish, he would be back in his country and could re start his life for the better (without his adoptive parents and all that). Ocean is de right choice logically, Jane Doe morally, but Mischa is the right choice sentimentally. He was probably the safest choice in my opinion (yes he is an alcoholic at 17, and he did stole wine and give it to his 9 or 10 yo cousin but we all have flaws lol). We know Ocean is the most achieved girl in town, but she doesn’t mention once what she would do if she came back to life, she would most likely go into politics or law (in my opinion) but we know that girl isn’t the most empathetic person ever and that she almost always puts her self and her image. And they had no way of knowing that Jane Doe would be going back to a good life or that she was even a good person. OMG I WROTE SO MUCH SORRY it’s just I really love Mischa and his story
@@juniperberryyyy I think it’s because Karnak is controlling the narrative. Ocean sings her song before knowing about the unanimous vote, so she insults everybody, as if to show that just cause you are super achieved it does mean that you are more deserving of life than others. Ricky and Noel songs show how the weren’t happy with their lives so there is no point in bringing them back. Constance sings about how she enjoyed dying and that she is somewhat happy she died in some way. Jane Doe’s song is basically “Hey I kinda would like to know who I am and I am sad/angry that I just died and no one can tell me who I am”. And I think that Talia is different from all the other songs because it doesn’t seem like Mischa is in control, it’s like Karnak is mocking him, as if saying “You wont be chosen, this is as close as you are gonna get to meeting Talia”. Every one is dressed in what I’m guessing is traditional Ukrainian clothing and dancing all happily. It feels like he is showing Mischa what his dream wedding would be like, leading to Mischa realizing he won’t get to experience it unless he comes back, but as he is kind and empathetic he doesn’t act like Ocean and tries to convince the others he should be chosen. Plus when Karnak ask them if the would like to see what would happen if Mischa and Talia were to meet, he is pretty much stating that he won’t get to experience that. It’s sad because as the audience you may be routing for him and the story itself tells you it won’t be him who goes back
I love that his number is the gay kid romanticizing being poor in a Kender and Ebb show because they don't know the weight of Cabaret or Chicago and just like the sexy smokey fosse aesthetic. (Speaking from experience) They nailed this on the head. It gives off the energy of "sexy french depression" from crazy ex-girlfriend. I love the melodramatic energy
the part at 4:38 is very important. noel is romanticizing being that "fucked up girl" while the back vocals are showing the truth "broken heart, teeth all stained of nicotine, shattered dreams," [lyrics rearranged just to fit]
It's not like he doesn't know those truths. He wanted chaos and drama in his life, and he took being called "depressing" as a compliment. He knows what he wants.
I think he romanticized how tragic Monique's life was, every bit of it, how she never found love, how awful her life was, he specified how she got addicted to opium and stayed in a 'rat infested Chinese dive' and then got typhoid flu from neglecting herself, he wanted to experience every bit of her life because the drama, trauma, and tragedy was more interesting than being a gay kid in a small canadian town.
that one part near the end where Mischa lifts Ocean to help her off of the stage like she’s a toddler that’s scared to get off a playground on their own and needs their parent to help them down
Being poor for the aesthetic is very me when I had the patience to watch old films as 13, not really getting the strong anti capitalist messages in films LMAOO
also, I love that the comedy in this song seems to come from the overdramaticness of this archetype, not the overplayed "haha look he's dressing up as a girl and kissing guys" that's just in too many musicals
4:25 never watched the musical but this part gives me very gender and it's so good. Like everything, the girl, the boys in the back and the little dance.
let's take a moment to appreciate the amount of strength it takes to move as fluidly as kholby does here, plus doing it while singing and everything looking effortless

HE'S SO GENDER I'M SCREAMING. I relate to this so hard because I often fantasize about being a male drug dealer who lives a life of crime, always in danger, not scared of anything, the only thing he confides in is himself and occasionally a woman who stays over for drinks. His life sucks, but at least I can have some semblance of a life as him compared to mine. :/
4:42 “Broken heart, a flask of gin Tattooed with a safety pin Teeth all stained with nicotine Running nylons, shattered dreams Super crusty, holy terror Wild eyes and black mascara”
showed this to a friend because i said he was my favorite character and she had no idea about the musical, so end of story she’s obsessed with the musical now
@@gvnlessktchn honestly i could see this song being in eial or maybe even in the normal album since the normal album has that musical vibe to it, maybe if it has more jazz to it it could be a ww song :0
i know nothing about this musical orher then its about people dying from a carnival and the concept of being revived in someway but LORD this song is so good
I want to learn Jane's dance at 4:41 but I can't find any videos with anyone doing it so I can't 🫠 So looks like I gotta learn myself :) Edit: I have done it
