yo it's me, that guy playing J.D. ^^^ if you enjoyed the video, kick ball change that SUBSCRIBE, fuh-lap that THUMBS UP check out my Heathers Q&A vid where I answer some of your questions. Link in description. Thanks :) xo
The stages- 1: Guilt tripping- Making her feel like he owes her something 2: Aggression/assertation- Politely asking to make her feel in control 3: Begging- Trying to manipulate a pity response 4: Empathising- Trying to relate to make her ( Veronica) feel safe and open up and being the protector 5: Asserting parental dominance- Making her feel small like she ( Veronica) has no choice
a lot of people are talking about jd’s acting but as a fellow theatre kid who admittedly is less sound in that aspect… this guy’s vocal control is insane. portraying basically a manic episode while still not losing one bit of support and belting- like holy shit dude
yeah, I searched for a comment like this. I lost my shit watching this, after hearing recorded version and I thought OMG, he sings just like in recording!
I love how you potrayed JD to become more "human" especially when the emotion changes before and after JD open the door. I love it so muchh!!! Greetings from theater person
As a theatre kid who's had to play some pretty messed-up-in-the-head characters, you nailed JD's insane personality so amazingly, never stop doing theatre please, you have something :D
With so many gems within this performance, this was the one that stood out to me most! He made a breath an actual intentional beat in the song. Amazing!
He has a beautiful voice and yet keeps the psychotic glint in his eye whilst sounding like an Angel and actually being emotional. It’s literally amazing.
"Sorry for coming through the *window* !.. Dreadful etiquette I know." HE DIDN'T APPRECIATE VERONICA SNEAKING THRU THE WINDOW IN DEAD GIRL WALKING OMG I'M DEAD
It’s also what JD says in the film version of Heathers. In it, he’s the one that goes to Veronica’s window (which was open) and says the “dreadful etiquette” line. I think it’s a nod at that and what you suggested here. 🤔
I love the detail of him trying to kick down the door before swinging it open, not sure if it’s intentional or not, but it makes the scene feel so much more realistic, as someone in that mental state would not be paying attention to what way a door goes, they just want in, and they want in NOW
@frisbeedev I don't think so because Veronica is canonically inside of a closet and I've personally never seen a closet that opens that way, so I think it's just him being hella angry and kicking the closet's door before opening it
Veronica: I’ll scream and my parents will call the police Also Veronica: *Doesnt scream* JD: *Does things much louder than scream* Veronica’s parents: *Doesnt hear anything*
The way you delivered the lines at 1:24 is just perfection. It really shows the desperation JD was feeling and how ur able to snap back so easily into "crazy JD" and "damaged JD" is just absolutely amazing!!!!!
@Isabel Speegle but it ain’t about empathy it’s just normal human feelings to show some kind of sadness when you yk, see that- but yk it’s jd he doesn’t have normal human feelings
I'm not good at English, so excuse me for commenting in Japanese🙇♀️ shortの音源から来たのでお話の内容を詳しく知ってる訳ではないですが、初見でも息を呑むほど圧倒される演技です... 重い空気とかどうしようもなく辛い感情とか、歴を重ねるか余程才能に恵まれてないとできない表現だと思いました...!! この界隈だと当たり前なのかもしれないですけど、歌とてもお上手ですし... 良いものが見れました♪ Thank you for your wonderful performance✨
@@olliecoates4723 I mean... If it’s some normal person being all edgy, of course I won’t. But this.... this dude...... bro this is a complete psychopath I would definitely believe him
i love how you kick the door than realizing that it opens from the outside, it just made me happy because it’s one things most of us do on a daily basis :)
you sound very confident about that. 😂😂 but in all honestly, i know nothing about this musical and this is damn great. he is *very* charismatic--even funny!--and the song is almost beautiful. however, the lyrics and his intentions are just downright selfish. delicious juxtaposition.
The fact that he expresses different emotions and feelings, instead of only being mean... It's crazy!! He's not only yelling, he is begging, manipulating, going crazy, loosing control, getting it back, crying... Nice acting!!
I've never seen this musical - just this song - but this is my favorite rendition. Other people seem to lean too heavy into the psychotic aspects of the character in this scene. I've even seen it done really well, but it ends up making JD look a bit like a charicature. This version is scary because showing the range of emotions is more real to a breakdown - less cartoonish (despite the musical theatre parts). If you care about someone in this kind of state, those vulnerable moments are what help draw you in even though it may not end well.
@@Mika.mizuki yeah as a yandere i can say that that is very true but i haven't hurt anyone yet due to my bf who stops me every single time but i also have tsundere moments
yes THIS. I love when people play this scene as JD _actually_ SNAPPING instead of just being mean. I want to be SCARED of JD during this song and I definitely was scared. well done!!
Best rendition of this song for me. Everything is right there from the acting to the vocals. Just bravo!!! They way you change your emotions so rapidly is legendary
This is my favorite version of JD. The sheer emotion put into this performance is incredible. I've had this on repeat for the past few weeks honestly. Amazing job!
This is amazing, one of the best renditions i've ever seen. I love how you pulled together different aspects of different peoples interpretations (like Ryan McCartan and Jamie Muscato) while still making it your own. Ive seen Heathers performed multiple times as it's on tour in the UK, but I've been underwhelmed by the performance of this song (it's my top song on Spotify lols) as they've leant to deeply into his love for Veronica instead of his crazy sides. All in all, you are up there with the West End performers, and loved it!!
like I was generally scared for his mental health lol. that's a compliment btw. Any other performance I didn't feel much from J.D and his psychotic character, but you weren't trying to look pristine or good, you were trynna let crazy... and boy did you look crazy. I LOVE IT
The way you screamed “Veronica” at 2:54 and that proceeded to try to hide your anger was so powerful. It really shows how erratic and mentally unstable this character is. Great job!! Also, incredible voice
I LOVE how he represents the duality between "Mad JD" in the first part of the song, being scared and angry, and the "In love JD" in the first chorus with tiny voice and looking like a dreamer, to finally put them together in the second chorus, almost like... fighting till his mad side wins, he wants to posses Veronica, but(t) he ser her dead and we see the last moment of "In love JD" This character is so complex, that makes it hard to act but god, this guy's fucking good, I don't even have words to express how awesome is
You've got to appreciate not only Forrest and his amazing portrayal of emotions, but also the amazing symmetry of the set. Where J.D. enters, when the students simultaneously enter the stage together. And the lighting! The dim red lights in the school letter, and *especially* when Veronica is found hanging. I can't tell if she's high enough it won't hurt her neck, or if she's standing and swaying on something, but this works because of the selective lighting in the closet! I love it, I love every part of it. Good job!
Totally agree, I watched the entire production and the direction and symmetry displayed throughout the performance really is impressive. I'd even go so far as to say it's an improvement over the original off-B'way/West End staging. Truly one of the most cohesive "Heathers" I've seen.
Veronica: “I’ll scream, my parents will call the police” JD: does a whole music number Veronica’s mom: did you hear something Veronica’s dad: nope Veronica’s mom : ok shes fine
The anger you can hear in his voice at 2:54 is insane, then he tries to cover it up with the “can we not fight” and “I know your scared” this is the best J.D. I’ve ever seen!!!! So much emotion!
Okay, *easily* my favorite JD. I've been watching so many different actors do this song and *my god* this one is my favorite. You go from manic to dreamy to psycho all over the place and there's so much.... bounce? Like, this is a JD that is SO in love with his plan. And the crazy is so there, but so is this hint of desperation for Veronica to come with him, and I don't know, a genuine horror that she's dead. I've seen a lot of actors *sing* this song, but you are truly the best to *act* it out and sing it. Really wish I could have seen your performance! Added: Many rewatches just *add to it!* Holy crap. Too often this is just sung center-stage but damn, man. Too good.
Okay thank you SO much for your compliments. J.D. has an arc unlike any other character I have performed. It's so wonderful to share and I really appreciate the feedback. Take care!
This video popped up on my suggestions list; it turned out to be my rabbit hole into the world of Heathers! No idea how I missed it before but I'm so glad I was introduced to the show through your incredible performance here. Now that I've had the chance to watch several different actors in the role, I have to say that I'm absolutely obsessed with your particular depiction of JD. How talented you are to be standing toe to toe with the pros who are 10+ years your senior, and honestly, in many ways I believe you eclipsed them. You treated the role with sensitivity and nuance; I believed every word and can really tell you did your research to make him a fully fleshed-out human being. Your JD is beautiful, sad, and terrifying all at once. Love love love your performance and wish you all the best in your future artistic endeavors, the world of theatre needs more nuanced actors like yourself to help bring these characters to life! ♥
1:49 that pchw pchw pchw with his facial expression sent me, like he looks like it’s a joke! like a little kid. that makes it so much better because that pchw talks about blowing up a whole school! super psychotic
Ikr?? Whenever i sing along with this song i have to find little pockets of time to breathe quickly to not interrupt the next song and even then sometimes it doesnt quite work. He does it so good! 😌
