Noir Alley - Hit and Run (1957) outro 20220904 by Eddie Muller shown on Sep 4, 2022 From TCM's Noir Alley (Saturdays at Midnight ET and Sunday 10am ET) hosted by the Czar of Noir, Eddie Muller.
There are certainly similarities to The Blue Angel and Woman in the Window/Scarlet Street in his works too, but I actually prefer Haas's films to some by prestigious directors like Von Sternberg or Lang. And it is remarkable how he could, as Eddie says, work up to acting (in a second language) as well as writing/directing/producing profitable - and entertaining! - films for those of us who are not 14 years old or morons.
Yes, "Hit and Run" is a blatant copy of "The Postman Always Rings Twice," but only in the love triangle. Haas came up with a clever script and some very original plot twists that I didn't expect. Cleo Moore is so gorgeous that you can't take your eyes off her lush curves and Vincent Edwards gives a good performance as the love-struck mechanic who seems to hate her, but really adores her. ANY appearance by the magnificent Dolores Reed is worth watching! "Hit and Run" is not a great movie, more of a C noir than a B, but it's not the bottom of the barrel either. It's funny, sexy, romantic, thrilling and entertaining. I highly recommend this one and "The Other Woman," Haas's two best Cleo Moore films.
