2010 my best friend one day out of the blue decided to make me dance with her to this song, it quickly became one of her favorite songs. I don’t remember the dance, just the moment and that I let her lead since I couldn’t dance. Then, she told me “I’ll never forget this moment.” I wish I could say that I don’t shed tears when I hear this song, but it’s one of my happiest memories from a simpler time. RIP Melissa. I still listen to the songs we compiled together.
I'm Brazilian and your story is moving, it warmed our hearts, especially knowing that you continue to remember your moments together. I wish you all the best, kisses
A lot of older songs have that sort of harmony and suspended melody on the home chord like that. The phrase "[poor boy] like me" in the song 'Dawn' by The Four Seasons comes to mind, as does "...you are the dancing queen" in ABBA's 'Dancing Queen'. (two groups who themselves have often been described as happily melancholic) 😊
@@diegovera1353 Exactly. She sings the first couple syllables of "remember" on the second note of the scale, so when that D major chord hits on the "mem" part, the note sort of hangs there, creating a kind of Dsus2 (suspended second) chord for that brief moment (or maybe technically a Dadd9), but the point is, it's very pleasant to the ear at that point in the song, and _especially_ pleasing when the guy's harmony line is _literally_ singing the very same pattern as "you are the dancing queen" for the phrase "always remember me" (0:44) 😄
My friend died a few weeks ago and recently this got played at his funeral, it honestly uplifted everyone. In loving memory of Zachary who sadly passed from a lung infection after complications trying to get him better. You’re in no pain anymore. Thought to his mother and girlfriend. We all love and miss you. Thankyou for this amazing song
When I heard the song for the first time, I thought it was a 60’s song. Turned out to be a relatively new song. Good to know new artists still appreciate the old school.
Stage school kids - they know that only a few people get the limelight, and most of their classmates will be in the background. But without them, you've got nothing.
Watcha drinkin'? Rum or whiskey? Now won'tcha have a Double with me? I'm sorry I'm a little late I got your message by the way I'm calling in sick today So let's go out for old time's sake I'll never forget you They said we'd never make it My sweet joy Always remember me We were mischievous And you were always wearing black I was so serious You know my boyfriend's mother nearly had a heart attack I'm sorry I'm a little late You know the stripes on a tiger are hard to change I know this World feels like an empty stage I wouldn't change a thing So glad you're back again I'll never forget you They said we'd never make it My sweet joy Always remember me I'll never forget you At times we couldn't shake it You're my joy Always remember me We just got swallowed up You know I didn't forget you We just got swallowed up We just got swallowed up And you know that I didn't forget you We just got swallowed up By the whole damn world Watcha thinkin'? Did you miss me? I borrowed your silver boots Now if you'd just let me give them back to you, I'll never forget you They said we'd never make it My sweet joy Always remember me I'll never forget you Although at times we couldn't shake it You're my joy Always remember me Don't you know that you're my joy? Always remember me Don't you know that you're my joy? Always remember me
I met her in a place called New Cross in South London before they were famous, she knew one of my mates that went to uni there. She's stunning in real life, literally lights the room up.
Why do people hate on tiktok using songs? Awesome songs like this are getting more views because of people coming from that platform. I'm glad this song is finally getting the recognition it deserves.
@@khj8695 people like to think they're better than other people over shit that doesn't matter, such as where they discovered a song. A person who's secure in themselves won't feel the need to do this.
@@douae5857 exactly! if I found out a person also liked a song but they found it in a game or something I wouldn't care, I'd recommend similar stuff since they'd probably like it
I loved it when it was out years ago and could not think who sung it or how to get it and was talking to my partner weeks ago about this song and just happened to watch behind her eyes and boom first 10 seconds of the scene there it was, I was amazed it was like my angels or the universe made it happen for me for the fact I was talking about it weeks before I watched behind her eyes .... amazing !!!
@@nicolacreighton1984 same aa me. Looked tofind for years. Then it player on a series on netflix I finally got enough words to type and find. Lol. Delighted
I never heard of this song at all! I found it randomly about a year ago and it's just a perfect song, you couldn't make a better one. So glad I found it but can't help wondering how i never had any idea it existed when aapprently it came out and was reasonably well known when I was 25.
I was 27 years old the summer this album came out. I played it nonstop back then. I am now 40. TIME FLIES. I remember seeing them on tour performing this song and other tracks from Wild Young Hearts live in New York City later that same year. Jamie (the drummer) was still performing with the group in live shows, but he left the group a few months later. "Never forget" the memories. I also saw them live during the What's The Time Mr Wolf tour with the Maccabees in NYC, 2007.
I was in New York when this album came out . I loves it so much . I always used to sing this song .when my 13 year old daughter passed in 2021 hear it in Jamaica on the radio and started crying because I know it's a sign from her telling me she will never forget me when I was feeling so sad . Love you Stacia .
For years I was convinced that this song was a classic like from the 50's or 60's, like from The Ronnetes, the Crystals or the Supremes. Great song It feels like It has always existed, so timeless.
I truly believe that no matter how hard the processed music machine tries to pump our ears full of garbage we will always seek out and find these gems.
@ilikebacon tiktok does ruin songs, not because it got popular but mostly because of why and how they got popular. Tiktokers usually cut off songs and it changes the meaning, sometimes they even change the lyrics and gives the original songs well, a different meaning. So the songs get popular not because they have great lyrics, great story, etc. They will also be remembered as"that one tiktok song" and be forgotten after the trend.
And they did it with more taste and they actually really brought that era feeling! Megan I find boring! And her all songs are same.. Childish and cheesy! I mean sorry but ... Not working for me!! Noisettes are amazing tho!!!
Nunca la había escuchado antes, investigue y vi el video ,"hace 11 años" wtf! Algo me decía que esa música no era de esta epoca es tan bella la melodia, aguebo tenía que ser del 2009, ya no hacen canciones asi ni en inglés ni español
I used to sing this with my childhood best friend in our early 20s back in 2010. We stopped communicating in 2011, but last weekend we met again after so many years and the lyrics go even better a decade later 💕
aww, you know childhood best friend is best!! I'm happy for the both of you. The feeling of being with someone that's special in your heart is like home.
There are a lot of people and a lot of tastes out there. Drawing conclusions from one song that became popular a decade after it came out seems silly lol
This reminds me of my son who died in 2016. He loved 60s music, so I knew he would love this song because it it is reminiscent of 60s music and when I told him about this song, he did love it. Telling my son about this song was close to the last time I ever talked to him.
This is from 11 years ago?! I heard this on tiktok and thought it was new! At least now they’re finally getting popularity because this is a great song!
My best friend of 18 years and I are graduating college in a year. After that, we'll go our separate ways and live our dreams on our own. Without her, I wouldn't have survived college. She was and still is my pillar who always reminded me that I'm going to make it (even if a lot of people make me feel like I'm bound to fail). This song reminds me of our friendship, and that time is fleeting but that memories will never fade no matter how far apart we are from one another.
This reminds me of my best friend of 8 years. We’re off to college next year and our plans are different. I also wouldn’t have survived the last couple years without her but she doesn’t consider me her best friend and it’s a sucky feeling knowing someone is more important to you than you are to them. It’s stupid but I’ve been distancing myself from her that way it won’t hurt as much when we inevitably grow apart and stop talking.
Também amo essa música, mas junto com a felicidade me vem uma extrema tristeza quando eu a ouço, mas mesmo assim não me canso de ouvir essa Obra-Prima.
First heard this in the movie leap year 10yrs ago. Played it over and over again. Recommended this song to my friends way back. Thank you tiktok for letting millions of people hear this amazing song. PS To those who haven't watched Leap Year yet. Go on and watch it! It's my go to movie. 😉
I am guilty of listening to some stuff by the Supremes and Ronettes! So, yeah loving this sound. There probably is modern music out there that sounds like this, just gotta know where to find it.
Yeah, this honestly brings me back to the 1960s (I wasn't there, actually, but it still reminds me of then). It's always refreshing to have a blast from the past, compared to the stuff we have today (Which is still good, but different)
