This year saw the triumphant return of Veruca Salt when they dropped their first album since Louise Post and Nina Gordon reunited in 2014. 'Ghost Notes' is a brilliant reminder of what made the quartet so damn brilliant in the 90s: these ladies know how to marry scuzzy guitars, killer riffs, and memorable harmonies that'll make your scalp tighten with pleasure. They really can wail on their guitars. But on this episode of Noisey Acoustics we made them unplug and head to the very top of the Standard Hotel in the East Village to perform their career-making classic "Seether," along with new tune "The Museum of Broken Relationships"-which was inspired by an actual museum full of donated ephemera from the remains of many, many affairs.

@joejones9520
@joejones9520 3 года назад
if autotune is used in the way it was designed for, no one can tell it was used, what you hear on current horrible songs is it turned all the way up for an effect on purpose. Everyone in every genre uses autotune and has for yrs, no one wants to risk being out of key. Veruca Salt is perfectly on key here so it would sound the same thru autotune as it does here.

Oh, Veruca Salt. Look at those girls, sliding up and down on major barre chords. You watch a band like Muse (say) perform live and then watch Veruca Salt doing it and it's - it's a world away. Veruca Salt make mistakes, lose time, and generally sound like a high school band. And yet. AND YET. I LOVE THIS BAND. They might not be the most proficient musicians, and they might well be derivative but I listen to Veruca Salt way more than any other group. Under all the fluffed notes and posturing there's a core of solid songwriting skill that shines though and makes me put their albums on repeat. Long live Veruca Salt, may you always be my guilty musical joy.

This was them stopping off in NYC for Noisey and doing a drive-by acoustic performance. The electric shows were "proficient" I assure you. Especially the Brooklyn show. There were even inverted chords involved. Jesus
@joejones9520
@joejones9520 3 года назад
@@tita4ewaz Right, their songs are very complex, so dum that people think bar chords somehow diminish...Seether is one of the best songs ever written, I play it all the time on electric and always think how could she have come up with this, writing a great song is a MIRACLE, doesnt matter what type chords used.

The humble nature of the this band is what makes them lengendary. They where never going to wow anybody with technique and skill. But sometimes, there are certain artists that were just meant to play together. I would put Nina and Louise in this category. The chemistry was and still is something to behold. Their chemistry turned ordinary musicians into superstars. The writings, compositions, song structures, lyrics, guitar riffs, etc.. Everything gelled together like magic. Veruca Salt, one of the true gems of the 90's.

Power chords would actually be easier, those are all barre chords. I personally like playing diads, triads, drop D, double drop D, and an array of more intricate movable chords inspired by Monte Montgomery and more Al Dimeola. But, that being said... countless fortunes and 10, 20, 30, 40+ year careers have been forged with the almighty power chord, Veruca Salt included. Nothing wrong with branching out away from power chords especially with the influences I have, but know it will be much more challenging and if you're like me and go on hiatus, impossible to remember the fucking music to all those songs you wrote! Wishing now I'd written even a few with those "Everlong-simple" power chords.

Renan xxx0xxx Renan - you need to learn English and Grammar , for one. Secondly, 90's music - for the most part - SUCKS ASS. Seether was one of the worst bands ever promoted as "music"! The music of the 60's was miles away better than ANYTHING from the 90's. Now run along and go listen to your Seether, and go get your fucking shinebox while you're at it....
@hazor777
@hazor777 8 лет назад
Renan xxx0xxx Oh please - what? Was 90's music the music you grew up on? I'm gonna take a wild guess and say you're probably mid/late 20's? 90's music was SHIT, it was shit then, it was shit 10 years ago , and it is shit now. Everyone used to say - IN THE 90's , NO LESS ! - that the 80s' Metal and Hairbands were shit & would be forgotten etc.. The irony of it all : 80's hard rock / Metal / hairbands have experienced a revival of their careers , where the avg. 90's band hasn't - except the largest selling ones like Pearl Jam etc.. Here it is , 23 + years later ....90's music : no revival,....thus it is shit. Get over yourself.
@hazor777
@hazor777 8 лет назад
Renan xxx0xxx Yes, I'm older - and I lived through the times when popular music began a steady decline because it was mimicked and whored out for the last possible dime to be made - the epitome of that was the 90's - and yes, it was "alternative", that was the new found genre to market to death. It wasn't underground, that was the appeal, but it was very popular and very commercial. The result of all this is silly , pathetic TV shows that show little kids with their "rock band" etc..The 60's was the birth of evolved rock music, and mutl. genres of it began to spin off from that through the 70's and early 80's. Then there were divisions of those genres (thrash metal, rap, hip hop, country rock, punk rock, black metal etc...). By the 80's music co.'s had begun to totally "professionalize" an industry and market it so specifically via radio stations etc.. that it began to lose it's artistic value. That's where "underground/alternative" began - but that became the new cheaply marketed music commodity once Nirvana became popular. Once the mp3 arrived, along with the Ipod etc.. - the music industry imploded from what it was once known as, because record co.'s and record execs didn't think the technology would eclipse their industry and allow more access to music outside of the machine they created. In some ways music is very pure these days , in terms of it's simplistic creation & the artist has the mass exposure means to themselves (ala RU-vid & internet), but in other ways it is a pathetic shadow of it's former self. Bands/artists don't involve themselves in club circuit touring , to hone their craft, like they once did - which is the reason why we see these stupid TV shows like American Idol etc.. it's all about image, not so much substance anymore. And everything that can be done - in an original sense - has been done, and recycled and recycled more & more & more ...now there's really no originality - you hear all the influences there. Most of the music scene is a sham now.....
@BlueSkyCrystals
@BlueSkyCrystals 8 лет назад
Every decade has music to love and hate. The 90's was no different. The 60's was no different. When it comes to which decade had better music, the argument is easily influenced by what decade one grew up in, what music one was first exposed to, etc. It usually has nothing to do with unbiased observations on the quality of music.
