Nice video, sir! I've had that problem before (after having a new PS pump installed) but didn't know how to get rid of it. I think it's gone now but the next time I start my '02 TL-S I'll be listening for it. 👍
Hey man so i just installed a new pump and new o rings but im stilling getting the whining noise, didnt change the hose so that might be it or is it possible that the belt is to tight or to loose? Would love to hear your thoughts thanks for the vid!
It’s possible there’s simply still air in the system too. There are only a few possibilities. Try following the final part of the video by holding the rpm’s up and turning the steering wheel.
Another awesome video, Incin3ration. Keep em' coming. I wish I knew about this 5 months ago. My mechanic charged me $600 to replace the power steering pump on my 02 TL Type S. I suspect all that was needed was replacing the O-Ring. 1 Question - would you recommend replacing the O-Ring on a regular basis? Like once a year? Or just listen for the power steering noise on a cold start as you demonstrated? Also totally unrelated but what type of gas mileage are you getting? Mine has 225k miles and I'm averaging around 270 miles per fill-up using 93 octane. This is almost exclusively city driving. Billy
This is the first time I've had to replace this o-ring in its 317,000 mile journey, I would say listen for P.S. noise and replace it as needed! And it also depends on the commute. With my current drive to work, I'm averaging 79mph mostly on the freeway and I'm getting 23mpg and around 400 miles per tank. Last month I took a day vacation where a majority of the drive was 65mph highways and backroads, and I got 26.8mpg and could have gotten 450 miles. These cars do get 19mpg city, so I would say 270 miles is on the low end, but I don't know how accurate the city mpg estimates are.

By the inlet. Did u just use a regular wrench to remove the bolt or how did you do it? I’m struggling to remove the inlet which is the only thing left. But I’m not able to reach the bolt
sorry for not seeing your comment, I never saw a notification! I'm sure you've already finished this project, but yes, I used just a wrench to remove that bolt as visualized at 5:50 in the video. Thanks for watching
Thank you for your instructional video. I have a 2003 Acura TL with the same aluminum inlet. I was able to remove the inlet with a 10 mm wrench but having a tough time to reinstall it. The screw keeps falling. How do you manage to remount it back?
I think I simply started it by hand and then snugged it down with the wrench. It's definitely a tight squeeze in there. If you need a little extra room, maybe you could remove some of the plastic trim covering the front spark plugs and the engine.
@@CarRepairsMadeSimple Thanks once again. This time I covered my index finger with a Rubber Finger Tip ( that you get at Office Depot) to thread the screw by hand. Previously the finger was hurting due to the sharp edge of the screw of the Inlet. To protect the screw from falling I tied the screw with a small thread (used in tailoring) with the other end tied to the 10 mm wrench. This way I was able to pick up the screw whenever I dropped it. Finally I succeeded in screwing back the inlet with the new O ring. Boy, what a thrill, to see the Acura running again without any noice!
After replacing with a new o-ring and hose and filling with new fluid to the top line, the whining sound went away but after driving twice on short trips I saw some new fluid spilled in my driveway. The level was down to the lower fill line. While running and checking for leaks, I saw the fluid reservoir bubbling. Not sure exactly what’s going on here. Any ideas?
Luckily there aren't many lines associated with the power steering system. So compare where the puddle under your car is with the parts diagram on acurapartsforless.com, and that should give you a good idea of which part/s are bad. The bubbling is because the fluid level is so low.
Great video! I'm trying this on my TL right now, but unfortunately I just can't get my wrench around the bolt for the inlet joint. I've been trying on and off for several hours now with no luck, and was wondering if theres anything else that should be removed to make it easier to get to
Hard to say without being there in person. You could remove the plastic engine cover and the ignition coil cover to potentially give you more working room.
@@CarRepairsMadeSimple I ended up just taking the whole pump off to get to that bolt, and after I replaced the o-rings and drove it around for a bit the annoying whine I was hearing before went away! Thanks for making this video man! It was really helpful! Unfortunately I think I’ll still have to replace the pump though because the bearings seem pretty worn out and don’t move freely when you turn the pulley. Anyways, that’s a project for another day. Thanks again for your help!
What do you recommend on keeping your Acura TL last longer. I saw yours has a lot of miles on it, and it seems it’s going strong. I have a 2001 TL with 185,000 miles, so far so good for me!
The most important thing to keep up on is the transmission fluid and filter. You want to do a single 3-quart drain and fill every 15,000 miles and change the exterior ATF filter every 30,000 miles. I have another video on my channel with lots of more information on it. And like with any other vehicle, simply keep up on all the other fluids too!
