Nokian WR D4 Winter Tyre Test (UK)

I have always been curious as to how winter tyres make a difference to driving in the cold conditions, so this year I decided to try some. I bought some Nokian WR D4 (215/45 R16 90H XL) tyres for a front-wheel drive Seat Ibiza FR.
I'm in the UK but I really wanted to try tyres that had great reviews in the snow, which is why I ended up with the Nokians. Admittedly they're more of a Central European winter tyre, but I was eager to give them a go.
Here are my thoughts after my first winter driving experience.
This is not an official test and there are no comparisons to be made. Just me driving around!

Can't believe after all these years I've never put winter tyres on my car in winter. On 27 Dec I nearly got caught in the 20 car pile-up on the M6 in a mini-blizzard. Never again. Luckily for me, I won an auction of ebay and got 4 wheels with 4 Nokian WRD4s fitted for a crazy bargain price. Got them on now, and what a step change!! Feel so much more secure now. Doesn't make me impervious to accidents, but sure takes the environment out of the equation. 👍 PS I see the footage was Yorks/Derbyshire, but that doesn't half sound like a West Cumbrian accent!

Glad to hear you're equipped with winters now. I'll bet they're coming in handy at the moment! Lots of people can't place my accent. Actually North East...

They do make some impressive winter tyres in their range.

Russians, Canadians and Americans are buying about 80% of the Nokian tire production. Also the only tire related foreign brand to establish a solid user base in Germany, France and Italy.

Front wheel drive is miles better than rear wheel drive as that is where all the weight is, ofr snow you really nothing wider than 165,175

Yeah to be honest even in the UK there are not many days where you'd need a Nokian WR D4. But they were certainly impressive.

εγω τα πήρα και τα χρησιμοποιώ 3 μήνες το χρόνο (βέβαια είμαι κάτοικος βόρειας Ελλάδας) και να ξέρεις είναι εξαιρετικά !!!!

@@firstworkinprogress3463 in north Greece after November until begining of March we have low tempratures 0 degres and less at the mornings December and January we weak up and going for job with minus degres and many times with snow so for your and your car's safty is good to have wintertyres ! in south Greece the same period still be at the sea and swim hahahahaha

@@1sulis Yes I understand Greece covers a big area and there are different climates. No need for winter tyres in the south!
