@Matthew Pawlak Actually, the majority of the time, it does work that way. Consider the crap that officers see time and again, and that despite the portrayal by the news, they actually bring in the majority of their suspects alive and relatively unharmed.
When Sarge told Nolan to arrest Cole, it was a powerful moment. It showed how much he’s come to respect and trust Nolan as an officer and how much he cares about those under his command. He knew the guilt Nolan was feeling over Andersen’s death and he knew the only way Nolan would ever be able to get past it is to be the one who brought her killer to justice. Sgt. Grey is a great cop and Nolan, with Grey’s help, will one day be a great cop, himself.
actually I tend to think hat because Nolan was the captain's patrol partner for that day, that's why Sgt. Gray had him do it, that and to help him close the loop,
That's a great way of putting it. And here I thought the Sarge wanted Nolan to make the arrest because he was expecting a rookie to be trigger happy and kill the SOB. Lol!
The Captain's death was just one of those things that leaves the audience gobsmacked. The fact that we all felt sad for a character we barley knew for one season just goes to show how well the story was developed.
@JitzyJT what kind of asshole days that? Cops die in the line of duty all the time and some prick like you has the audacity to put someone down like that?
I said the same thing. Whenever she was on-screen, I was captivated. She was so strong, intelligent, and could read people. I loved her character so much!
Nolan's face when walking up to arrest him made me think back to when Captain Anderson told Nolan "It is not your job to punish that man for what he did." "Overcoming that impulse will be the hardest thing you will do in this job." You could clearly see in his face, the rage and the hate, he, just like everyone else there, wanted nothing more than to put a bullet in that man and make him pay for what he did, but they knew that wouldn't honor her memory just like Grey said, doing their jobs would. "Because the woman you killed taught us, its not our job to punish you, just to see to it that you are." What a beautiful line.
I was mad when she got killed. Such a shocker… especially there right in front of Nolan. He watched her die, so tragic. But that was what molded him and shaped him. She hand picked him to work at her station.
@@user-ek3ww1wq3i Now, if that were actually the working attitude of EVERY LAW ENFORCEMENT OFFICER, there wouldn't be a need for groups like Black Lives Matter.
The officer who always talks to Officer Nolan is absolutely amazing at her job, all of them are but she’s great at helping the other cops do their job right and keep a level head.
That bastard hss great taste in BLACK LEATHERS like u and me!!!! Lol. Why didn't Cole kill Nolan? That way, Cole would have gotten away scot free with murdering cops. And have a chance to reunite and fuck his girl to celebrate.
She had a special relationship with everyone in the show in her own special way and every character like that will always get killed off to create drama and true pain
@@alexiaprettyeyes2283 nathan fillion acts as captain reynolds of the ship Serenity, Firefly class transport ship. he acts as a veteran who led soldiers in the war between the alliance (the government who wanted total military control of everything and everyone) and the independents (the people who didn't want to be controlled). he fought for the independents and they lost the war so he and his crew travel throughout the galaxy looking for jobs, most of them illegal. they transport things to other planets and the show is about their adventures doing that. because there is no government controlling the independents, it's kind of a wild west situation...with space ships. he plays the veteran who doesn't talk about himself much and does everything he can to take care of himself and his crew. he's a very cordial person with a sense of humor until you try to hurt him or his friends or steal from them, then he turns into an unstoppable force. not rambo, just "i'm going to get to my crew and make them safe and i'm not going to hurt anyone unless they try to hurt us and i will stop at nothing to achieve this. and you have his first mate who is basically a soldier for the group and she's married to the ships pilot, who's the best pilot in the universe. then there's the very sweet and loving kaylee who is an intuitive mechanic, and that makes her the best. there's jayne who is in love with guns and shooting people and basically does grunt work. and there's sheppard who is secretly high ranking alliance military turned preacher to make up for all his wrong-doings. and you have simon and his sister river. he's an intelligent doctor, the best. she's a genius psychic who went insane under government control and they are both on the run. and there's anara. she's a prostitute renting a room on the ship and provides help and guidance to the crew when they ask for it. basically a bunch of misfits coming together on accident and helping each other do crimes that don't really hurt anyone and they pull off a robinhood or a rambo every one in a while to help people. do watch at least 3 episodes. and they were aired out of order, so good luck. but there's only 13 of them
I love how the last scene, Nolan is able to think fondly of Andersen, recalling how he embarassed himself when he first met her after Bishop and Lopez misled him. And in a moment of growth, I love how Grey is the one to tell him that it was Andersen who got Nolan the job at Mid-Shire because she believed that his life experience as an older rookie would be valuable to the department. In other words, Andersen believed in Nolan despite him being older than most rookies and the concerns of other higher ups like Grey himself. And it was because of Andersen that Grey would recruit Aaron Thoreson, seeing that like Nolan, the young rookie could bring a valuable skills as a police officer.
And grey was right. I knew he was because of what holt told Jake in Brooklyn 99 how Jake getting falsely accused and sent to prison made him a better cop because it put a voice inside him that said, “what if he didn’t do it” thorsen embodies that mindset to a t. He was put through hell for something he didn’t do and lost his best friend, respect from friends and family and 2 years he’ll never get back because of bad law enforcement wanting to make his case open and shut. Thanks to that thorsen has a skill of perspective something few cops, detectives or any law enforcement have.
It's a shame she died. I would've loved a more in depth story of her life, in and outside of her job. She was a very well written character too. I'm really sad we had to see her go.
I've been a paramedic and a firefighter- two of the three "street level" protective services. This is why I could never be a cop- if I was there when the man who killed my partner/coworker was arrested, that guy would be assuming room temperature as soon as I had a shot. I know it's only a fictional story, but still- massive respect for the self-control and restraint that most LEOs use on a daily basis.
Every week I fall more in love with this show. THIS is the role Nathan Fillion was born to play and I can relate to his character--despite Lucy being my girl! Gonna miss the Captain, but I can't wait for Season 2!!! And the lecture about grief was spot on!
When he was told to go and cuff the punk we could all tell by the look on his face that he wanted to ignore police protocol so badly and off him there and then and many of his officers thought that he would have done the it. But he showed strength and respect for captain Anderson by not doing it knowing she would’ve wanted it that way and why she believed in him.
My dad said Nolan was chosen over the rest is because Nolan was there when captain died and Grey wanted Nolan to arrest him and he can get some of the pain to go away that he had.
Nathan fillion is a gem of an actor. His facial expressions during the walk-up started stirring mine... you can see the rage in his breathing, the restraint in each step. I loved him in Firefly, glad to see him getting in the spotlight more :)
The song playing in this scene is called Sirens and is a composition by Jordan Gagne but is exclusively for the show, not sure it has a planned release separate from the show
I'm currently watching this show for the first time and this was by far my favorite episode so far. One of my favorite episodes of any show I've seen in fact. So well done.
I can tell you. Never before did I feel 3 episodes in that a show was so well made. The Rookie is as hilarious as Brooklyn 99 and as serious as Swat. Anderson's death was a shock to me. My only regret is we didn't see the funeral.
He's stupid she told him she was a commander and yet he fired shots. Definitely the death penalty cause this was a really high rank she could fire srgt grade and all of the officers appointed over the rookies.
Me. I kinda like Cole. He's young, evil and dangerous. And very great taste in BLACK LEATHERS! This part is like me! Lol. Just watching him pumping all that testosterone adrenaline to see if he gets away with murdering a police captain. To see how he can outsmart the dogooders. To see him impress his girl. Young villains in love... Lol
@Davon Tanniehill Lol. A tit for tat kind of rookie. A kill for a kill. Sweet. That's to be expected! And if I was the arrogant evil cold hearted cold blooded BLACK LEATHER CLADDED Cole, I would have probably killed another cop. What's another dead cop in blue, right? Cole would think that.
It’s not our job to punish you. Just to make sure you are. I love that line because it spells out the exact purpose of the police their job is to catch you the court punishes you that is how the system is supposed to work even though it has its challenges and sometimes doesn’t work but hopefully one day it will
The best line was from nolan "It's not our job to punish you just to see it that you are. One the best lines I heard from the rookie doing a good work on this show. Keep up the good work
It’s sad that Andersen didn’t see Nolan graduate from rookie and eventually getting promoted to Officer 3 and becoming a TO. She would have been proud of him as she was one of his few superiors who believed in him when he became a cop
When Grey told Bishop "it needs to be" after she said "it shouldn't be him", why he said that was because he was Capt. Andersens partner at the time of her death. Plus it would give Nolan peace of mind.
He would need to jump past lieutenant first in order to become captain. The reason he's a sergeant at his age is he chose the police version of the NCO path. Watch commander is the highest position he can achieve as a sergeant.
Loving the show and I really hope it gets picked up for a 2nd season it's refreshing to see some good TV especially when it's a crime drama that's realistic don't get me wrong I loved castle but I hope rookie has a long run
This was a very good episode, including officers following protocol, while also showing their emotions and love for their captain verses keeping them inside which some officers do resulting unfortunately in PTSD for example. Albeit some episodes do not accurately reflect at least in Canada the large amount of personal discretion and judgement that individual officers have on whether they charge a person or not. I have seen two episodes in which officers charged people, as someone made a complaint. Officers use their own discretion as to whether a charge is warranted. As well ultimately it is up to Crown Counsel in Canada whom determines whether a charge is laid. An example my friend works in the RCMP, she during several incidences she was called to used her very good de escalation skills to mitigate domestic disputes often returning to see how everyone is doing. When people are really emotional they can say or make up all kinds of things, including that they wish someone to be charged. She wishes to add to the quality of people's lives and relationships, verses ad litigation and court stress. As well with small item impulse shoplifting some people do so for attention thus she talks with them to see how they are doing; is genuine and kind. They don't re offend, as they just wanted some care and attention often many have middle class jobs ect... She has told me lots of these kinds of stories with confidentiality of course.
@@TheScienceman300 I am very happy about that. I am a little upset they're moving the show to Sunday nights because nobody will stay up on Sunday night because Monday is the worst day of the week so fully rested, but I hope it lasts at least 8 seasons.
This scene made me emotional it was only right Nolan got to do it since he saw his captain get killed in front of him this was a good way to get closure.
the rookie is my favorite show in the entire world and I'm so sad the way she died I cried so much I saw her die that's all Pat Nolan it's sad that it wasn't right rest in peace captain
I feel like this should have been in a separate episode. The Greenlight episode should have been split in half: the first covering the green light and Anderson's death, and the second focusing on a massive manhunt for Cole Midas while the characters mourn Anderson. Making the episode like this makes it feel condensed.
I hope we see a new captain enter the rookie in season 6. After Andersens death by the southern front, and capt. Tom Weatherbys set up promotion by Sgt. Grey with the intention of getting him away from Mid-Wilshire Station, us fans have not seen an LAPD captain since. There was a reference to a "Captain Maudox" in the episode of Greys shooting, and another reference to a captiain when Nolans son is taken into hospital, but no Capt. has been seen on screen since Weatherby. Shame, I liked Andersens character so I wanted their to be a proper replacement. In terms of season 6, introducing an LAPD captain would be a great opportunity to introduce a new character. Cmon Rookie Universe, at the very least give us a reference to Andersen, she was a well loved character by us fans. 👍
I have always loved Nathan Fillion as an actor. You can see the emotion on his face at any point when he's acting. I will always love this show too even though it has some of the worst political trash messages put a TV show that I've seen in awhile. Nathan Fillion is and will always be Captain Reynolds of the serenity to me.
One of the few time this show reminded me this is just a show. I know a lot of cops, this would never happen. If that criminal killed a cop, especially a house captain, his life would be over.
For those who haven’t seen the episode and need some context for this scene: Cole is a criminal that was wanted by the entire police force for eating the last donut in the station.
I only recently become acquainted with this show, so I've been watching reruns on Hulu. Was a big fan of Firefly, Fillions's first lead role series, and he was outstanding in "Castle", but this show shows a different side of his acting chops.
Just something in the Reflex sight of Lopez's rifle. For those who remember Independence Day there's a scene in the Oval Officer where the two officers come in and show a image of the mothership with the smaller ships breaking off, it looks exactly like the red image in the sight at time index 2:00.
