This is the only reason to want a time machine. Out of that whole experience, I bet the "tricky track" would be the final thing to do me in. (blew my mind first time I saw footage of that) What a beautiful, brutal, punishing ride.

Is the "Tricky track" the bit near the end where is twists back and forth on the straight section? Because that is basically what all my wooden coaster did in Roller Coaster Tycoon as a kid, was actually a little disappointed when I rode my first wooden coaster in real life that it didn't have that.
@erikawilliams9558

Is there a technical term for that other than "tricky track"?

Trick track is so fun though. Shivering Timbers had it and I've been on that roller coaster at least 50 times.

I read that this didn't have any trim brakes mid way in the ride. It was also so violent that many people didn't ride it again and the extreme forces kept damaging the structure. Injuries were not uncommon. There was always some kind of repair work being done and it never had a full week of running normally. I don't know if I would be brave enough to ride this.

I would love to see a park like Knoebels bring this ride back to life!
@theOlLineRebel
@theOlLineRebel 2 года назад
This might be too rough for Knoebel’s! They don’t see to want extreme rides (which is good to make it a family park where kids can go on all types and not miss out while some adult has to hang back to watch them).

This is a great simulation. The only thing missing is the background (Lake Erie, the dance hall and the rest of Crystal Beach that was visible from the ride).

GCI (or RMC) should rebuild this ride, either in Niagra Falls or at Wonderland. With their technology today, they could fix the danger spots with minor adjustment.

@scottb2794
@scottb2794 8 лет назад
+rollercoasterfan2000 I would have to go with RMC on this one. The all wooden design of the Cyclone made it a nightmare to maintain. It would literally tear itself apart just from the stress. That's the main reason the Cyclone closed in the first place.
@urbex_coasters
@urbex_coasters 8 лет назад
Cyclone was a wood-hybrid coaster. It had a steel structure, which is why it was able to last even as long as it did.
@scottb2794
@scottb2794 8 лет назад
Little mention of how much steel was used. Many relatives i mine rode it. they are all dead now though. I don't remember them mentioning anything about the structure. I heard stories of it being pretty rough and lot's of people became sick. I do know that if anyone could recreate it and make it last, it would be RMC.

Reportedly, certain sections of the coaster had a constant shower of loose change, eye-glasses cases, & house keys, that had been flung out of Cyclone riders' jacket pockets and breast pockets! Can you imagine what was going on in the minds of patrons, awaiting their ride turn in the cue, with the smell of vomit wafting past them?

1:35-1:40 would have to been the cause for neck problems. I read where the coaster smelled of puke. I have ridden 112 coasters as mean as Son Of Beast when it had the loop but this one is too dangerous.

Noticed trim brakes were used at 1:11 in this simulation. Did trim brakes actually exist on this coaster at that point in the ride?
@Ffwee
@Ffwee 9 лет назад
Yes they did. I can't comment on how much they actually slowed down the cars, but they were located exactly as shown. From what I've read, the figure 8 section that followed was particularly memorable. The cars zipped through so fast, folks didn't know which way was up. I've often wondered why this coaster has the rep that it does. I think this demo clearly demonstrates the reason: with the exception of those trim brakes, there was no "down" time in the entire ride to allow folks to catch their breath.

this is good, but not quite accurate of the actual cyclone of Crystal beach1920's-1940's, if you look at some of the actual pics and footage on-line there are no guardrails, and accompanying walkways, and many places where the cross ties below have gaps......
