@@Silverwind87 I disagree, because if Plankton was insignificant to SpongeBob then SpongeBob would simply kill him quickly and wouldn’t give it a second thought. The fact that he intentionally waits for a perfect moment and wants to “make it count” implies Plankton’s death is meaningful or special in some way. It’s beautifully demented.

@@eyelessbun5785 Plus, for some reason, they seem to be the only two characters who mesh well together. Maybe it's their nearly opposite characterisations, with Jimmy being more methodical and intelligent, whereas Timmy is more impulsive and brash. Or maybe it's the magic vs science thing they have going on? Or maybe it's just the similarities in their names. Am I overthinking this? Yes.

It's funny. I remember the sequel really pushing Danny and Spongebob as a dynamic duo. They were the two you started with and were the ones to fight the final boss.

I've got a fuzzy memory of this episode but can't actually visualize any of it. It's like it's repressed knowledge.

I feel like it's because they're both characters who are perfectly suited to the animation style they're designed for. Jimmy's design is specifically tailored for the 3D environment of his show, while Timmy's fits in perfectly with his own 2D world; attempting to convert them to the other art style ends up producing uncanny valley results because their character designs were never meant to work outside their own art style.

@@christopherhale3140 Yeah. That actually makes sense for the time. However, I remember there being a GameCube Fairly OddParents game called "Breakin' Da Rules" that wisely went with the "Cel-Shaded" look and while it's not exactly on par with Wind Waker or Jet Set Radio Future (let alone today's cel-shaded beauties from Arc System Works), it did show the designs would at least look decent with non-realistic lighting. As for Jimmy Neutron, the concept art looked way livelier than the 3D models we eventually got due to time constraints and the simple fact that low-budget TV 3D was still new. The problem was that 2D takes on the Jimmy Neutron characters were based on those simplified official 3D models rather than the original concept art. Anyone who studied art school in recent years would likely be told that they need to make their designs work in both 2D and 3D. A lot of Disney's hand-drawn stuff back in the 20th century, like Cinderella, actually looks just as good as a 3D Kingdom Hearts world, for instance. So it's actually kind of interesting that Fairly OddParents and Jimmy Neutron were able to break this rule to make designs that look absolutely perfect in their medium of choice, even it meant some serious "uncanny valley" moments in the Jimmy-Timmy Power Hour movies.

I can't speak to jimmy, but at least part of it for timmy is that his design would break physics. His face is always drawn at a 3 quarters angle, never straight-on, which causes some quirks with things like the direction of his hair. Though the Breakin Da Rules game accounted for this by making his hair flip depending on the camera angle
