They’re good until you involve Eldar Children. 🤣 For real though, the goodest guys are still the Blood Angels and most of their chapter brethren. Tragic heroes making the most of their cursed lives
@@tyrusdalet Burning Eldar Children IS good. Those xenos filth win the silver medal in the "Who Fucked Up The Galaxy The Most" Olympics, right after the gold medalist C'tan/Necrons.
The joke with ferrus Manus not having a great head over his shoulders is because he was decapitated by Fulgrim (the boss of the purple people that don't get laid). This is why he said f***ing Fulgrim.
But before the heresy they were the best of friends and we can still see fulgrims longing to be friends with ferris again. Cloning him attempting to turn him and being forced to kill him when he repeatedly refuses adding on to fulgrims ever growing madness from the blade he carries. It's really sad but in the books there was a chess ge that the emperor took part in of that battle where ferris representing a piece fell. And it was there where some foreshadowing was made that the emperor had a way to really bring him back.
@MrKsimka actually when they thought him up they had a twisted vision of bat man in mind, it's literally what they said. I've been a fan from the beginning. Batman/ Joker was the inspiration. He even has the rictus grin he had at the end
I think the reason Bricky (and many others) love the Night lords is cause of their books, which are very well written and fun for the most part. They also introduce us to many of the characters from the night lords, a number of whom have this twisted sense of justice that, at least in the setting of 40k, almost makes them look heroic. One of the most loved characters from the night lords is Sevetar. During the horus heresy he gets captured by loyalist forces and put into prison. There he psychically connects with a psyker girl that was also imprisoned near his cell. The girl was part of the the astropathic choir of the ship (psykers sing to do magic stuff and help the ship). The master of the choir was an abusive jerk and at one point beat her up so badly that her spine broke. Sevetar, once he found out what had happened, waited patiently until it was time for him to be transferred out of the prison. He escaped during the transfer, found the master of the choir, and then proceeded to give him the old night lords special, very very slowly and methodically. And after killing him, he just goes back to his cell and waits for his captors.
@@maridan48 I read a comment, and as it says, is the MOST 40k thing out there is Sevetar. While with his Konrad, they were gonna teleport onto a loyalist vessel he got teleported outside instead, in a SPACE BATTLE. So what does he do? He grabs onto the wing of a fighter with one hand, redirects it, and crashes it into the hangar of the ship they were meant to board while riding it.
@@kurtsurban2081 I don’t remember that happening in Prince of Crows. I remember he did need a lift to a Dark Angels battle ship so he talked to a fighter pilot (that might have been related to him) and he clung onto her fighter while she flew towards it. There was also the time he was disintegrating his cell wall with his spit and blamed it on the rats, so the DAs moved him to a forcefield cell
12:27, i actually laughed out loud. (Fulgrim is the primarch of the purple ones, who like all sorts of non consensual fun, he beheaded ferrus) hummuna hummuna guys are the adeptus mechanicus, the guys in red robes, red techno monks, and its very appropriate you thought of them, since as you might imagine, admech and iron hands are on good terms
@@HannaHsOverInvested I play an Adeptus Mechanicus Tech Priest in a RP game and "humana humana" is a regular part of her holy prayers to the machine spirits, thanks to Bricky.
@@merrymoll to this day my favourite tech prayer is still the prayer of damage assessment from a CaiaphusCaine novel performed by inhaling air through clenched teeth while shaking your head from side to side.
So quick run down: Rogal Dorn needing a hand is because he disappeared defending the imperium from a black crusade and all they found was his severed hand. Ferrus Manus not having a good head on his shoulders is because Fulgrim cut his head off. And if you genuinely want the 'nice' legions. You're looking at the Salamandars, Ultramarines, Blood Angels (if they're sane) and Space Wolves (if you've shown valor). There are some other chapters that are nice like the Crimson Fists but legion wise, those four probably in that order.
so little fun fact the 40k universe has its own version of christmas but its called Sanguinala because in the lore Sanguinius had seen the future of his demise and instead of running away from it he rushed towards, he willingly sacrificed himself to basically weaken Horus's armor enough for the Emperor to defeat him. Also blood angels are one of the Nicer chapters towards normal humans like the Salamanders chapter they will often go out of their way to protect both civilians and imperial soldiers.
The nightlords are Bricky's favorite faction because the Nightlords Trilogy of books is incredible and paints them in a light you normally wouldn't consider.
I'm kind of sad how quickly they went through the Blood Angels. They're my favorite faction. Before Sanguinius arrived the Blood Angels were a savage hated faction within the Space Marines. It was Sanguinius that brought nobility to them. It's Sanguinius that made them care for the innocent and not just be blood thirsty savages. Sanguinius worked with other races, so much so that he had the respect of Chaos Gods and Necrons.
Do you have any links to parts within the books or any stories that specify this? I know that the Silent King claimed that he not only met him but gained his respect, but who knows if the old necron is lying? Also yes, he is our Fabulous Hawk Boi!❤
Nightlords are a very cruel legion but they make for great stories you shouldn't be surprised people like them because they have a great aesthetic, gameplay, storytelling, and the single most crazy primarch (he's basically space marine batman that can see the future including his own death which he embraced willingly to relieve himself of his psychosis).
Couple of things to correct & clarify: - The Space Wolves, despite being drunk, savage, dude bro Vikings are also some of the ''nice guys''. They will answer any call for help and even started a war with the Inquisition, who wanted to purge the regular soldiers & civilians of the planet Armageddon, after a Chaos Demon invasion, because they wanted to be sure these people were not corrupted by Chaos. The chapter master of the Space Wolves literally kicked the shit out of the Inquisitor who ordered the purge. - The Imperial Fists are not just ''stereotypical Marines'' but also great engineers/architects/builders, because their Primarch, Rogal Dorn was a genius engineer/architect. When they conquer a planet, they first build a proper fortress ( hence the ''we fortify this position''-meme) and then they go out and start building infrastructure, like roads, bridges etc. They're also pretty ''nice'' having given shelter to a bunch of refugees from the destroyed planet Cadia, on their giant space station the ''Phalanx'', which is their HQ. ( The Phalanx is a gigantic space cathedral, with the firepower of a Death Star and it's own eco system.) - The Night Lords are f*cking scumbags, psycho, sadistic mass murderers. ''But their armor looks so cool...." F*ck them, they flay people alive just for sh*ts and giggles. - The Blood Angels, despite the whole ''we vant to zuck your blood'' & ''anger management''- issue, are also pretty ''nice''. They actually try very hard to overcome their gene flaws and will sacrifice themselves without hesitation, if they have to. - The Iron Hands' whole mindset, is the result of them being betrayed by their fellow Space Marines of the Emperor's Children ( the purple perverts) when the Horus Heresy ( the big civil war ) started. Their Primarch, Ferrus Manus, was very close with Primarch Fulgrim of the Emperor's Children and both Legions had fought together in various campaigns. Then Fulgrim and his guys turned to Chaos, betrayed the Iron Hands, ambushing them and Fulgrim even killed Ferrus, cutting off his head. ( hence the joke) 2/3's of the Iron Hands were killed during this and the surviving ones became so traumatised that they came to the conclusion: ''the flesh is weak'' and '' you can't count and trust nobody then yourself''. So they became more and more cold, calculating, misanthropic cyborgs.
If you enjoy Bricky, his "Frostpunk" videos are really enjoyable. He talks about a game called Frostpunk and how it's unique as a game, I've never seen a game with a system like it before.
Frostpunk is pretty original, but it definitely fits into the colony sim genre with Dwarf Fortress, Prison Architect, Pharaoh, and Rise to Ruins. The setting is really unique, though. It's like a spin off of Snowpiercer.
Now that Henry Cavill is in charge of the Warhammer 40K Cinematic Universe, what part will he personally play? ... I'm going to wager he'll go from white wolf to grey wolf.
He's said he wants to be a side character at most, with lots of opportunity to play tertiary stuff. He's trying to focus on the producing and such for the project. Given that, I think he's going to be a rogue trader.
I really hope they do something like Imperial Guard vs. Tau, Orks, or Eldar. Keep some of the more super powered stuff out of the story (at least at first) so the audience can be eased into the setting if they're new to 40k. Some parts of the Imperium aren't even sure if xenos or Space Marines are even real, going so far as to wonder if the story of the Emperor is true or an exaggeration (like how we view Robin Hood or Odysseus). I think this would be a good place to start with Cavil playing something like an NCO or planetary governor.
The closest you get to classic "good guy" chapters are- the Blood Angels, the Lamenters, and most of all the Salamanders The Blood Angel's are quite nice, until their vampiric thirst starts to overpower them. The Salamanders are the most notable example of "good" Space marines, as they don't have the superiority complex that other chapters develop towards regular humans, and even prioritize rescuing civillains. The Lamenters are just as humble and kind as the Salamanders, but unfortunately for them they are also canonically the unluckiest Chapter in the whole Imperium- They had no idea the Horus heresy started and by the time they realized their brothers were spreading demons, had been branded as traitors
The Night Lord's Primarch(Conrad Curze) is what would happen if you merged Batman and Vlad the Impaler, and threw in a dash of seeing people's future and death, a sense of brutal justice, disdain for hypocrites and ample amounts of fatalism. Merry Christmas!
"Who is nice in this world?" Actually, ironically enough, the Blood Angels. They're all about Honor and Nobility, Culture and Beauty, Loyalty and the uplifting of Humanity. All of which makes their slow, inevitable decline into madness and rage even more tragic. There's also the Salamanders that Bricky talks about later in the video. The Ultramarines aren't bad either, a bit high-handed with the common folk but mostly benevolent about it (they have sort of a "look, we just know better than you, so sit down and shut up while we make your lives better" kind of attitude). The Thousand Sons were also pretty decent dudes before they turned traitor, just a bunch of nerds who wanted to educate and enlighten everyone. Then there's all the Successor Chapters formed when the legions were broken up into smaller formations. A number of those Chapters - like the Black Dragons, Angels of Absolution, and White Consuls - are pretty nice guys. Though of course, Warhammer being Warhammer, those "good guy" chapters tend to get screwed over by the universe pretty hard. The Black Dragons are cursed with a mutation that might see them purged by the Inquisition for being "impure." The Angels of Absolution were betrayed by their fellow Space Marines of the Dark Angels Chapter, who cut a backroom deal with the Tau to murder the "Absolvers" over a difference of ideology. And the White Consuls died nearly to the last man defending Cadia and another system from the forces of Chaos, then had their homeworld of Sabatine conquered by Chaos while they were away, turning it from a happy, idyllic world into a daemon-infested cesspit. Because when the universe itself is actively malicious, nobody can have nice things.
A tip for catching the quick cut jokes: , and . allow you to go forwards ( . ) and backwards( , ) frame by frame in a yt video so you don't have to hammer that poor space bar
Night lords lore is some of the best among the legions, while they are evil and completely twisted their tactics make sense as they often resulted in a low casualty rate among enemies and allies, able to take worlds by killing only a handful of the planets top brass
Ah, now you've come to a certain ... undercurrent in the works of Games Workshop and their fandoms. For all the grandiosity and ridiculousness of the premise, there is also a blunt, unapologetic cruelty in it - and many people like it that way. The Night Lords are only the most obvious, edge-lordy expression of that. It's the match in the orphanage, the baseball bat to the pony's head, the chainsaw in fairy-land. It's the "no, let's not be friends, instead, let's wear your face as a hat and show it to your family" - adolescent-kind of defiance. It can be very liberating, if one has enough of all that bubbling, cloy happiness ... but it should be consumed in moderation.
In all fairness the Night Lords are also my favorite since the novels about them have several interesting characters, they are the coolest looking from a purely aesthetics standpoint, and they are the opposite to what almost every other marine from the other legions stand for. and to answer your question about 11, they are another unknown like the 2nd so thats why its short
The reason Brickey likes the night Lords most is likely because the entire theme of Warhammer 40K is that there is no good guy choice and everyone is evil to some degree so it's always the most fun to just delve into whoever is the most evil
Merry Christmas Hannah. Enjoy coming up with a title for [Redacted] Required. Personally I would love to hear what "uncensored Hannah" has to say! Looking forward to the surprise in April.
12:35 Fulgrim and Ferrus were the best of friends in the most unlikely friendship ever seen. And I mean genuine brotherhood. Tragically Fulgrim fell to evil and he was the first of the emperors sons to kill a brother. That brother was ferrus who was beheaded.
There's an old bit of Space Wolf lore (as in mid-90s, before the invention of mjod) which notes that the Space Marine resistance to poisons effectively flips the rules for drinking contests. The challenge is now to drink as fast as possible and at such dangerous percentages that even Marine physiology can't keep up. The first person to pass out is the winner since he has demonstrated greater capacity and speed. There are also Fenrisian tales of men dying after drinking the ale of the gods. Which is not a massive surprise.
When you asked who was nice? Bricky didn't mention it, but the White Scars are a faction that cares about people. You saw them in the previously video, they're the go-fast/mongolian space marine chapter. I'm excited to see you react to the Salamanders later down the line, I think you're going to like them a lot.
Fulgrim and Ferrus were best buddies. Then Fulgrim went full traitor on him and chopped off his head, and killed most of the Iron Hands during the Drop Site Massacre. The Drip Site Massacre is like the Order 66 of 40K.
You hit the nail on the head when saying "who is nice." The setting isn't the brightest and cheerful, basically being the dark souls of miniature wargaming before dark souls was ever a game. The game coined the term "grimdark" due to its tagline "In the grim darkness of the future, there is only war." Ironically, there are niceties in the setting. We just never see it. The game and setting focuses on everything else, and most people tend to ignore the fact that there are some worlds where things we consider normal and nice exist. The Imperium protects these worlds, and in so doing, make of themselves monsters as foul as any they face.
To further explain the joke about Ferrus Manus having no head. As others have said he was beheaded by the leader of the purple guys Fulgrim. Basically before the heresy Ferrus and Fulgrim were bros who were quite close due to them both seeking perfection (though through different means, Ferrus through machines and Fulgrim through his wierd stuff). After the heresy, Fulgrim went traitor and Ferrus stayed loyal, and when Fulgrim went to try and convince Ferrus, Ferrus refused to betray the Emperor, so Fulgrim cut off his head in a duel. After that Fulgrim would have one of his medical dudes Fabius Bile continually clone Ferrus so Fulgrim could continue to try and convince him, though he continously fails at it.
Bricky used to dislike the Night Lords until he read their book, you can hear the entire reasoning for it in the adeptus ridiculous episode on it. Their primary is basically the w40k version of batman, and he hates all the murderers and so on in his chapter.
Fans of Night Lords typically became fans after reading their trilogy of books and getting to know the oddly likable characters within. It can also be fun to be the fan of some of the worst of the bad guys in a universe where (nearly) everyone is evil. For example, my gf is a big fan of both the Night Lords and Emperor’s Children partly because she enjoys her villains (though even the really horrible things they do will bother her).
In W40K, the nicest guys if there ever were nice guys, look no further than The Lamenters. They go out of their way to save civilians, but their Chapter is the most unluckiest chapter ever. They are simply cursed [metaphorically speaking] with the worst luck ever. Everytime they had something good happen to them, bad luck came and hit them like a truck full of anvils, but they pull through no matter what.
"Who is nice in this world Bricky?" Answer: The Salamanders. They're the kind that will hug your child while burning an enemy to death so that the citizens are safe.
Night Lords=an army of Batman without the restraint or morals and the gleeful addiction to sowing chaos of the Joker. One other thing to think about. They’ve got a certain level of precognitive ability, but it breaks their sanity more. And one of the gifts (read that sarcastically) that the Night Lords geneseed gives is basically having the eye of terror in their mind always. So they’re even more broken than they were as humans because they’ve got a vision of hell in their mind 24/7 and their precognitive gift causes further mental decline any time it’s used.
"Sanguinius. It should have been him. He has the vision and strength to carry us to victory, and the wisdom to rule once victory is won. For all his aloof coolness, he alone has the Emperor's soul in his blood. Each of us carries part of our father within us, whether it is his hunger for battle, his psychic talent or his determination to succeed. Sanguinius holds it all. It should have been his..." -Warmaster Horus praises his brother Primarch Sanguinius
I know this comment is very late, but to explain Bricky's love of the Night Lords, as a huge Night Lord fan myself: The Night Lords are indeed scum, but they also have a weird sense of honour. For example, the reason they did horrible torture as a way of warfare, was to avoid giant conflicts. In the end, the torture of ten thousand people, would spare the lives of billions. They also dont worship the chaos gods, and look down upon thoose who do, and tend to treat their mortal servants/slaves, with some level of respect. Since you enjoyed the Ciaphas Cain book which is not your typical Warhammer 40k style story, the Night Lords trilogy is a good read, because it follows a group of underdog Night Lords, being scum yet likeable....Though by the end, you'll be reminded that they are in fact still monsters.
Fun fact about the Blood Angels, before Sanguinius was found, they were originally known as the Revenant Legion, one of the most reviled forces in the Imperium, serving the Emperor the same way an inferno serves a general.
I'm glad you like your comment section, that made me smile. Creators should be able to have healthy interactions with the people who enjoy their work, so that was really nice to hear.
"Creators should be able to have healthy interactions with the people who enjoy their work" What? Why? I think it's statistically impossible to have nice interactions on the internet given a large enough audience.
The 2nd and 11th legions were censored from Imperium history for unknown reasons. (This gives real world people the ability to create a fan made legion or chapter)
There are plenty of youtubers that can help you learn how to stream and get started gaming. My favorite of them are actually two VTubers named Syafire and PumpkinPotion, both of whom focus on helping people get better at streaming, VTubing, and building community.
If you aren't fed up with 40k content, give the Ogryn Story by Warrior tier a watch! It's (as far as I know) not canonical but it gives great insight on one of the often time most overlooked part of the Imperiums forces, the Ogryn. It's pretty wholesome(and sad...).
Space vampires are arguably some of the nicer space marines. Some even having poetry clubs between battles, or dedicate themselves to other forms of art to keep their minds off of drinking blood. But this universe doesn't reward niceness, so they tend to all go berserk or get horribly slaughtered if they ever get too nice.
Loved the video as always! Its fun learning about Warhammer lore with you. And now that Henry Cavil is in a Warhammer tv show I need to get into the lore!! Weird side note but i love that pink tracksuit and now i really want one!!!
Who is nice in that world? Farsight Enclave, and Salamanders. I genuinely think you’d appreciate Warhammer Fantasy. More actual good guys, more cooperation between species (being friends instead), etc.
For the ferris Manus joke it's cause his brother fulgrim decapitated him. As for the night lords they are his favorite legion cause there so evil it over the top evil, that an the son of Konrad are interesting characters, there my favorite legion cause Konrad's most trusted son made a good point to his father calling him out on just using fear tactics rather than putting a judicial system in place to keep order after the fear mongering . Side note they had the fewest casualties during the crusade simply cause u flay 1000 project it to other planets an the billions fall in line.
The Nightlords are amazingly well written in their books. I would highly recommend the trilogy by Aaron Dembski-Bowden as it really depicts the Nightlords with a huge amount of nuance and complexity that one minute has you sympathizing with them for their nature as manufactured war machines and the next minute realizing they still have had a choice to become what they are now. They're basically if Batman, a super principled hero, ended up losing his mind and caving into cruel justice... And slipping a little more every day. They're also massive under dogs as far as chaos legions/warbands go, struggling for scraps because they basically live under self destructive idealism and principles.
By the way, if you are looking for a good representation of the Blood Angels, listen to "Descent of an Angel" an audiobook on RU-vid (it's free) that covers a Blood Angel recounting the first time they met Sanguinius, as well as how kind he was to them and how they were before they met their primarch.
You could space yourself out by watching some older Star Trek game trailers to confuse EVERYONE!!! Don't know if there's a good playlist on YT or not but the intros and trailers are on here
ummmm... rogal dorn kinda lost his hand no no no its actually the hand is the only one left when the imperium find his ship rogal dorn is lost somewhere in the warp...
One of the Iron Hands Captain (I think his name was Kristos, and guess what - he became corrupted by Chaos) even had no head - it was replaced by metal cylinder with cameras. And he also could rotate any part of his body in 360 degrees.
Also, the comment regarding Ferrus Manus not having a great head, he was the first primarch to die in the Horus Heresy. His head was cut off by Fulgrim.
I've watched Bricky's space marine legions video a bunch of times. Whilst I am getting into 40k lore, he is just such a joy to watch and catching all the small references makes it that much better. I have no idea why Bricky likes Night Lords although in some of the books the primarch for that legion did have a better backstory than just "he's a scumbag". Looking forward to you watching the 11th-20th legions.
A lot of people recommend the Night Lords Trilogy by Aaron Dembski-Bowden because it's supposed to be a really interesting story that gets you to root for some of the worst people possible. I'm guessing Bricky may have read that series and made him buy a Night Lords army for Horus Heresy/40k?
Despite being one of the worst characters in terms of atrocities, Konrad Kurze is probably the most well-developed characters in 40k. The books show his and his chapter's decline into sheer madness and it paints him as truly sympathetic. He tried to do good and he technically did, but his madness got the better of him and he knew it.
This is like having my wife watch me play video games or watch something nerdy with me, except I'm getting a divorce. this kind of fills that void for me in a weird off-putting way.... THANKS HANNAH!
