They're actually not clones, well probably, the most likely reason is because tf2 only has 9 classes, and we just use those with different cosmetics to show a somewhat unique character, well that's how I see it I guess.

my headcannon is that there's the original mercs and then there are multiple alternative versions of them that are us players so there are several parallel universes that connect into one

The cannon's a little messy, but I like to think in videos like Expiration Date the Mercs are all on the same team, fighting generic mercenaries at the behest of the Administrator.

They have memories of their deaths though, as confirmed by their revenge lines and some of Heavy's dialogue in Poker Night at the Inventory. I have no clue how that works, and I don't think there's ever been an explanation for that other than "game logic"

Some explanations: that cleaver is called the flying guillotine, it is a weapon for scout that replaces his pistol. Soldier’s pickaxes are called the equalizer, which does more damage the lower soldier’s health, and the escape plan, which increases soldier’s movement speed the lower his health. The glowing nugget is called Australium, a rare metal with the appearance of gold, which increases hair growth, strength, and I think alcohol tolerance/ makes people swear more. Cool scout cosplay btw.

They're charming, each in their own way, but I think what makes them (and TF2 as a whole) so loveable is just how silly and stupid they all are. Team Fortress revels in being ridiculous is the most entertaining ways possible. There are killer robots powered by money, New Zealand is a cross between Mars and Krypton, Picasso is called "Kickasso" and paints portraits of him hunting tigers, etc. Literally nothing else behaves in the same farcical-yet-completely-serious way that TF2 does, and it's wonderful.

Canonically none of them have actually killed anyone on the other team, just badly wounded them, that's the explanation for respawning in the TF2 universe

Its cool that the majority of the 'script' is actually just in-game catchphrases from the characters. Weaving that together is talented. Oh, and the Pyro hacking with his axe in to the containing where the spy was was a tribute to The Shining I believe. :) I haven't played TF2 in probably 9 years but I may download it again.

Technically Pyro acts as Jack Torrence. The quote 'Here's Johnny' refers to Late Night Host Johnny Carson and how he was introduced each show.

To answer the question about the clones and memories, within the actual 'canon' of TF2 itself there are no clones and they've all simply had extremely close brushes with death. The Medic, despite being a scary monster of a man, is a crack scientist/medical genius who has found ways to extend people's lives when they probably should've died from all their merc work. Within the canon of the Fedora Chronicles, it's never discussed, but it seems like each clone has no real shared memories aside from knowledge the first of their type would have had. The meta reason they're all clones is the same reason the game has them all coming back from the dead, it's fun to see the carnage play out. Also, on a side note, you might enjoy the comic series. They're all online and pretty good. There's the main 6 issue long series, it isn't too long of a story, with a few prequel comics that have some details to em. If reading comics online isn't interesting/you want a video to go along with it, there's a few good videos on youtube where someone reads along and shows the panels to tell the story.

according to the lore (not so much *the comics* , but the written lore) they *are* a bunch of clones: cloned by the respawn room, which was invented by Engi, to keep the men in the fight without having to recruit more. the thing was, that with every respawn iteration, the clones became progressively more degraded, and it was impossible to tell which one was the original..... so, they established that the original must be the one with the most experience, and hence, the most impressive hat.

In the true lore none of the mercs actually died fighting each other, just very badly wounded in the worst case scenario I think. There were only true fatalities when the robots came in, which is why they're so stunned by someone actually dying

They're not clones. Since we only got 9 classes in the actual game, we play using specific characters, each representing its class. But canon-wise, there're hundreds or thousands of mercenaries, using the same equipment. You can literally see other engineers in comics, and they're completely different persons So basically, our beloved characters are just 9 very specific mercenaries, representing their classes, and when you see 2 Heavies or 3 Medics, they're all different persons, but due to the lack of actual in-game models, they're all represented using OUR medic's look

To be fair there isn't much difference between the two counterparts of each of the classes. There are some minor ones like the Spies liking different brands for cigarettes and RED having a slightly lower voice than BLU in MtS. I've always deemed the classes to be exactly same people in a way that they look the same, act the same but are still separate people.

“Do they have memories from like, all their different clones?” I was about to retort (possibly ruder then I intend) about this before I thought of the perfect analogy for someone who’s not really a gamer… or hell anyone new to how TF2 fan animations *usually* work. Think of them like Clone Troopers from Star Wars. They look pretty much the same, act similar to each other, but are distinctly *different* people Idk if that helps or if someone has explained it better, but the analogy just clicked in my head

The Engineer and his team at the end are the people from Burning through Space, another SFM series by the same guy. It has two fairly lengthy parts but they're both really great. It also ties in to the Bolted Behemoth, which is the episode that happens before Live And Let Spy in the series, but that link between the two doesn't really matter to enjoy Burning Through Space.

Also, the Demoman with a party hat is the Winglets avatar in game. He made the Fedora chronicles series for TF2 among others, and is undoubtedly the best SFM animator to date, hands down. These animations are fan animations. Valve, the parent company of TF2 did not commission them, but Valve did allow anyone to use the Assets.

Now you should react to Burning through Space if you haven't already. The Engineer that Spy is talking to on the phone is from it. It's basically a spin off but the next episode, which unfortunately might take years to come out, will be a crossover of it. I am a bit new to the channel so I don't know all the videos that you might have done.

the characters aren't clones, just the same character with different cosmetic gear and weapons to give them a bit of personality. while the animations have only these 9 people, lore-wise they aren't all the same person every time they die.

You did miss some story, but its minor. Bolted bohemoth, burning though space 1, and burning though space 2. I feel out of the 3, Burning through space 2 is much more sad.

Omg yes I am so happy you are reacting to this :D Your Scout Cosplay looks good! - Regarding the memories: In most Team Fortress 2 animations seems that each individual 'clone' has the 'basic' memories that are based on the original mercenaries they were copied from, but they retain their own memories that they make during their lives. There is no real answer to the question from the official material as far as I am aware. - When RED Pyro axed the door to the container the BLU Spy was chilling in, it was a reference to "The Shining" :) - In the TF2 lore, Australium is a metal that makes people super strong, super smart and contains vast amounts of energy, it's why in the TF2-Verse Australia is a futuristic utopia far ahead of the rest of the world :D - The scene in the end where Spy calls Engineer connects this story to another earlier two part animation by The Winglet called "Burning Through Space" I recommend watching those as well :) I'm glad you enjoyed this and I am looking forward to more reactions to TF2 animation from you~

Australiam: a magic metal found only in Australia. In solid form, it turns the exposed individual into the Australian stereotype (I.e. Saxton Hale) and in liquid form it extends the life of the user. ( The metal thing on Gray Mann's back)

The spy is the most fun to play with. He can go invisible as well as disguise himself as an enemy player. To your teammates he just looks like the spy wearing a face mask of whichever character he is. To the other team he looks like a teammate and even has their gamer tag above the head. I had an add on for the invisibility that it didn’t last as long, but when you stood still, it would stay invisible and recharge the timer. I’d go far behind lines, change into an enemy and backstab so many players.

in the comics even most of the adventures happen with the red team, and few of the blu team appear, with the exception of the Soldier in the WAR! Comic, and engineer in Naked and the Dead comic

Love your reaction to everything! Unfortunately I don't know much about destiny and Team Fortress though. If you go back to warhammer I highly suggest you watch The Last Church. Its an animation of a short story where the Emperor speaks to a priest in the last church on Earth. It really quite good. I also recommend the Halo 3 Believe ad series. Its many trailers for Halo 3 with "veterans" in the Halo world on how humanity survived extinction against the aliens. Both series really do a good job of giving a small glimpse of the narratives in their respective universes. Anyways love the content!

2:33 - No, don't call this guy "G-man". His real name is Grey Mann. Actually, G-man is a character from another Valve game series (Half-Life). He is a mysterious thing (maybe man, maybe alien?) always watching you from inaccessible locations through Half-Life 1 & 2, using advanced teleporting and time travelling. He also ends up hiring one of your characters (Gordon Freeman) and detaining the other one (Adrian Shephard) in an empty time and space continuum loop because on one hand Adrian has a lot of potential but he is also a dangerous inconvenient witness of certain "accidents".

Fun fact: the sword spy grabed is the half zatoichi, a katana that heals half of your health and if you bring it out and switch back to a gun without killing someone first it will take away 50 health from you. So it is good for going on long tears through the enemy team as each kill heals you. Also the cleaver scout had is the flying guillotine, a pistol replacement that does 50 damage when hiting someone and 40 bleed damage afterwards doing 90 total damage, plus it has a meter that recharges when you throw it, so in like 10 seconds or something you can throw it again.

Fun fact: the engineer and his team from the ending is actually from another Story from the winglet, called Burning through space. The phone call scene was also the ending to Burning through space 2, which happened around 5 years ago

For this lore in this sort of tf2 au I don't believe they are clones and these are all separate types of the same people, so they all have different memories, different relationships, etc, but they're still the same classes, just different people kinda like the actual game with choosing many classes lmao. Either way I'm pretty sure clones of the actual characters would still withhold memories but idk. :)
