🧁 Hello my Sweeties! 🧁
Amanda Rose here from Hungry Bubbles with a video on how to make a non-greasy whipped body butter at home! This feels so luxurious on the skin and has a beautiful consistency that anyone will surely enjoy.
I’ve seen a few videos here with a similar promise but I wanted to upload mine because after trying and testing many recipes I found one that I believe is pretty dang good! 💕
I’m still a fairly small business and some might think I’m crazy for posting my recipe but I don’t care! Some of you want to be able to make this at home to save a little money and I get it! Other people will be happy to continue to support me and my tiny shop too 🥰
This recipe is of a medium to light consistency and feel, and it offers an amazing protective barrier against dryness especially in the colder months.
RECIPE:
💕 7 oz Shea Butter (I use refined so the Shea scent doesn’t overpower my fragrance oils & essential oils)
💕 7 oz Coconut Oil
💕 2 oz sweet almond oil
💕 2 oz rice bran oil (if you don’t have this you can just use 4 oz sweet almond instead)
💕 Up to .3 oz of fragrance oil (use a fragrance calc if you are unsure, like on Brambleberry.com)
💕 Cosmetic grade mica powder for color (you can use a shimmery mica powder for a lovely shimmer and glow on the skin like the one I used in the video!)
Arrowroot flour: the amount you use depends on how you like the final consistency and feel on your skin. I personally used about 2 tablespoons, but when making this, start at one tablespoon and add more as you like! :)
Measure and weigh all in a heat safe glass of metal container for the double boiler.
(If using a microwave use a microwave safe container such as Pyrex)
Scent: Blackened Amethyst (Nature’s Garden)
Scent notes: This fragrance combines aquatic top notes with Italian bergamot, rare camellias, and lime; followed by middle notes of lily, jasmine, and rose; finished with notes of exotic sandalwood and vetiver.

I think I will start making my own face n body butter now for myself n for my newborn baby thinking about it is less expensive and affordable when u get the right ingredients it can work very well for ones skin and be effective.We pay a lot of money to buy store bought products which claim to treat skin problems but some don’t which is a waste of money,so instead of buying those expensive stuff which don’t work I will start getting my own shea butter,mango butters,oils n others to make my own natural skincare products….

Thank you so much for this video and recipe! I'm pretty new at this and I was wondering if it would be okay to use essential oil into this mixture instead of using fragrance?
@rosebudsuds2971
@rosebudsuds2971 3 года назад
Hey there, you are so welcome! And yes you can definitely use essential oil! However, make sure that you follow the safety guidelines for the amount to use in your batch. Some essential oils are more likely to cause skin sensitivity as well such as peppermint or orange (orange can cause skin sensitivity to sunlight). I would just do a bit of research and go from there. You can always start with a teaspoon of essential oil in this recipe and work your way up if it’s safe to do so. Good luck! 😊💕

@rosebudsuds2971
@rosebudsuds2971 3 года назад
You are so welcome! I didn’t time my whipping but a good rule of thumb is that you want the butters to double in volume. Once you see it double in volume it’s important to not over whip as it can get agitated and flatten again. Whichever consistency you enjoy though, you can choose to stop whenever you think it looks and feels great :)

Hey there, we have an air purifier in our home currently. I also wear my hair up, wear gloves, and I use a lint roller before I make anything. It helps to keep the home well cleaned and dusted when possible. If you have pets it can be hard to escape their hair, but try to find a room or space in your home that is somewhere you can keep tidy and keep away pets while you’re working :) I hope they helps!

@rosebudsuds2971
@rosebudsuds2971 3 года назад
Hey there! I don’t quite have a recipe for a super fluffy butter, but I think in general if you want something fluffier you can replace more of your butters with a lighter oil such as sweet almond, jojoba, or rice bran oil :) I always try very small batches with even amounts like 2oz Shea 2 oz jojoba 2 oz rice bran or something like that. They you can adjust depending on the consistency you get. For fluffier, add more lighter oils, for dense, add more hard butters 💕 I hope that helps!

Hello, love the video... just wondering the size of the containers used in your video and typically what would be a good price range if you were selling? I've watched a few body butter video that use this size but charge different. One stated it could be due to the Butters and oils used as well as where they may have gotten their supple from so I was curious.
@rosebudsuds2971
@rosebudsuds2971 3 года назад
Hey there, yes it really all depends on the cost of your ingredients and also how much you pay yourself per hour for your skills and your time to make the product. It also depends on where you live if you’re selling online it doesn’t matter as much but for shows and markets it can range since different cities and states will have varying price expectations for products. I live near downtown Portland so my prices are most likely a little higher than someone maybe further out in a rural area if that makes sense. Typically I charge about $5 or more per ounce - that’s after it’s whipped. :) My containers are glass and are 2 ounces. I found them on Amazon but I don’t see the same listing in stock right now :( You can find lots of containers like it on US Plastics and also Berlin Packaging site. :) I hope that helps!

Did you use fractionated or regular coconut oil? Also, on arrowroot powder, after I add it in my butter still feels greasy. Is it regular arrowroot powder like you'd find at a health food store or is there another kind? What do you use?
@rosebudsuds2971
@rosebudsuds2971 3 года назад
Hi there, I do not use fractionated. Only the coconut oil that is solid at room temp :) For the arrowroot powder, it can still feel a tad greasy but that’s because it’s packed with oils and butters, but it does soak in after a few minutes. It’s important to only add a tiny bit to the skin at first since too much can make it to where it doesn’t soak in as well and will cause your skin to feel greasy for a long time. You can try to add more arrowroot flour but not too much as it can cause a slightly grainy effect if too much is used. I use regular arrowroot yes, the kind you find at health food stores :) I hope that helps a bit! Body butter is different from regular lotions in that body butters are not made with water so they can take longer to soak in. 😁

@rosebudsuds2971
@rosebudsuds2971 3 года назад
Hey Christine! You are so welcome! And yes, even though there is no water in this recipe and no preservative is needed, you can still add a preservative for added safety and longevity. I personally use Phenonip which is a natural preservative. I would say anywhere from .5% up to 1% preservative for the total batch weight if you choose to use Phenonip as well. :) I cannot speak on other preservatives since each has their own suggested use rate, but that’s what I do for Phenonip in my lotion and whipped soap bases. It is also lip safe! Thanks!

@rosebudsuds2971
@rosebudsuds2971 2 года назад
I put it in the fridge immediately after melting to get it cooled enough to whip. However, I usually put it in the fridge and not the freezer as the freezer can cause it to harden quickly on just the sides of the container which can make it harder to whip. Best of luck!

Hey there! The only way it will really hold shape is if you keep it really cold before you pipe it. But you can also up the amount of hard butters and lessen the amount of soft oils and it will hold its shape much better! This recipe is a fairly airy and soft fluffy body butter but I have been able to pipe it I just throw it in the fridge for a bit before I pipe :)

As far as back-up plan goes, there’s only one way to help a situation like that and having general liability or product liability insurance is the way to go. Unfortunately you cannot know for sure if someone will have a reaction. The best you can do is list every single ingredient on your label when selling or gifting this product. Ive never had someone develop a rash from this product, but it definitely can happen!

Essentials oils are more potent than the fragrance oils? Fragrance are for smell correct are those the ones that is needed more oil in batch?
@rosebudsuds2971

Yes essential oils are stronger and more concentrated than fragrance oils. You can use a fragrance oil calculator to see how much of each type to use in different products. There’s a fragrance calculator on Brambleberry.com

Hi i was curious if u could substitute mango instead of coconut or does the mango have to replace the shea since its a butter..also whay about adding jojoba oil and advacodo oil or grapeseed oil i have these and want to try them but afraid of wasting if no one had tried them lol not seeing any videos with these in it actually onky a few but they used alot of coconut and it was pretty greasy i dont want itto be greasy its for mom in law and my mom lol we all know how our moms are lol just asking for a little advise or if u have used these in ur recipe or how do they do
@rosebudsuds2971
@rosebudsuds2971 3 года назад
Hey Melissa! Yes mango butter would be an excellent substitute for either the coconut oil or Shea butter. The finished product will be a little thicker and slightly less fluffy if you substitute the coconut oil with mango butter but I’ve done this and it is an amazing thick and luxurious body butter! Any oil can be substituted and made your own, but the oils that soak in the best are the lighter oils such as jojoba, sweet almond oil, and rice bran oil. Grapeseed oil is lighter too so you could start off with a very small batch to test and see how you like it. What makes body butters less greasy is the addition of the arrowroot powder. :)

Ya i had purchased some arrow root but if u dnt add the right amount it will become to think and will not be a whipped body butter i have already done this lol i believe i added to much arrow root b cuz it came out very nice i might add but thick not whipped at all i even re beat it ..it really isnt fluffy it feels super light and fluffy tho so i gave to my husband to use for a beard balm and he loves it lol lemon sugar it smells and feels amazing but not at all wht i wanted it to be tht was my first batch of trying to make whipped body butter. So now im a bit scared lol dnt wanna waste any im off work just had neck surgery last friday so money isnt coming in wkly like it was...so im trying to be careful and not be wasteful so when im doin trials just explore cut recipes in half. Or even less if i can is tht the best way to experiment lol Thank you for getting back to me i will definelty take ur advise and try. And go for it wht else i got to do just sit cant do alot of movement as long a si wear this neck brace i can do this body butter making i enjoy it its keeping me sane thts for sure lol again thank you have a great rest of ur day

Hi can I use agar agar powder instead of arrowroot flour?
@rosebudsuds2971
@rosebudsuds2971 3 года назад
Hi there! I haven’t personally used agar agar so I can’t speak for sure on it. It looks like the consistency differs a bit from arrowroot flour. It is apparently used as a replacement for gelatin and a thickening agent- so I’m not sure if it would change the consistency of the butters or alter the integrity of them. I would do a tiny batch of butters and see how it feels. Report back here if you try it to let us know what you find! :)

@rosebudsuds2971 3 года назад
Hey there! I’ve heard that you can substitute the arrowroot flour with something like corn starch or tapioca powder. However, I have not personally tried this so I can’t make any suggestions for amounts. But if you do find a good usage rate and have success, please give us an update! :) best of luck!

Hello , thanks for the video . Is this recipe stable?
@rosebudsuds2971
@rosebudsuds2971 3 года назад
Hey there! Do you mean shelf stable? This has no water so no preservatives are needed, my recipe has lasted me at least 11 months from the tester I made. But if you are selling this to customers, a preservative might be good. No refrigeration needed unless you live in a warm climate. This tends to melt very easily so shipping in summer months is nearly impossible.

Can I use mango butter or kokum butter instead of coconut oil?
@rosebudsuds2971
@rosebudsuds2971 3 года назад
Yes you definitely can! I encourage you to play around with the amounts. I think kokum butter would probably make for a more firm butter vs mango, but both are equally great! Just be sure to have a good ratio of hard butters to soft if you’re looking for a fluffy light finished product :)

hheeellppp , my body butters come out so greasy and melt easily , what is a key thing i should avoid and something you recommend other than arrowroot powder ?
@rosebudsuds2971
@rosebudsuds2971 3 года назад
Hey there, the only thing I have used is arrowroot powder so I unfortunately cannot speak to any other potential ingredients. I would say to use oils and butters that soak into the skin the quickest. That’s why I chose the recipe I did. Coconut oil can soak in more slowly so some people avoid that in recipes. Really it can be about the amount you put on your skin. Most body butters will have a greasy feeling for a few minutes but as long as you put on a very thin layer it should soak in if you use arrowroot. :) I would do a Google search and see which powders can be substituted in body butter, there may be some good info there but I am only familiar with arrowroot. Thank you for your question!

What can you replace for shea butter? I am allergic to Shea butter. Thanks
@rosebudsuds2971
@rosebudsuds2971 3 года назад
You’ll want to replace the Shea butter for another hard butter or oil. I personally recommend mango butter to replace the Shea, but you can also try cocoa butter too. Cocoa butter is much harder though so the final product may be more stiff. But you can always cut this recipe in half and play around with different oils and butters to find what you like best :) good luck!!

@rosebudsuds2971
@rosebudsuds2971 3 года назад
Hey there, if you don’t have one of the oils you can do a total of 4 ounces of either sweet almond or rice bran oil. They are very equal in consistency and weight so if I’m ever out of sweet almond I replace my 2 ounces of it with almond- for a total of 4 ounces. Thank you!

Almost any fragrance oil is ok to use as long as it is skin safe. Some places you can go to are: CandleScience, Bramberry, and Natures Garden to name a few! :) Be sure to check the fragrance oil calculators to calculate how much fragrance to put in to make it safely. Bramble berry has an easy calculator you can use. Best of luck!

It can harden if you leave it in a cooler room such as below 65 degrees. It will also melt a bit if it gets too warm (around 85 degrees). It stays fluffy in my house which is usually about 70 degrees (all Fahrenheit) 💜

How do you keep this product from melting during shipping to warmer climates?
@rosebudsuds2971
@rosebudsuds2971 2 года назад
Unfortunately the only way to ensure the product does not melt is to package it with cold packs or dry ice and insulation. Even then it’s possible for the product to melt if shipping is delayed. However, there are some “emulsified” body butter recipes online as well and those are less likely to melt in transit. I’m working on a recipe currently and will have it posted in a month or so. Until then, there are some great resources if you search via Google as well. :)

You obviously have no idea how will microwave works. Lol "radiation". Also I would recommend keeping the temperature of the water for the double boiler below boiling temp since at that temperature (212°F / 100°C) you are absolutely killing a lot of the nutrients and vitamins inside of your butters and oils. Chemistry graduate as well as neurosurgeon here.
