NON KPOP FANS REACT TO THE RISE OF BANGTAN - CHAPTER 1 (WE ARE BULLETPROOF) 

Just to be clear. Aneesa( founder of the series) wanted the first episode to show the contrast between BTS's company Big Hit and the other larger companies which had the dieting extremes and heavy rules while Big Hit had rules but didn't enforce a large amount on them. They were free and loved their lives accordingly to that. They themselves pushed to be better and didn't have their company breathing down their necks.

Actually Blackpink doesn’t do their own music, they’re the basic type of kpop music, this kind of edm sound you can find in the 99% of kpop groups

I think you missed the part where Bang PD said he never required them to work certain hours, that he only expected/asked of them that their music tell their own stories. These guys pushed themselves and worked hard because THEY wanted it so bad. They pushed each other and worked as a team to reach their goals. As someone else said, the point of this first chapter is to contrast other k-pop agencies and Big Hit.

Yeah unlike bts, blackpink only has a few songs, they’ve been around since 2016. Their producer ‘Teddy’ is the one that writes all of their songs. Once they release one song they don’t make a comeback for a year or two. It’s a whole cycle. They didn’t went through what bts did tho, their company is one of the big 3. They have tons of money. No shade or anything just them and bts are not close that’s all.

This is a great series! Aneesa (the creator of The Rise of Bangtan) shared that she has been working on this series (her labor of love) for over 3 years! She is taking viewer on a journey step-by-step from BTS' perspective not looking back on their days but living through them (with them). She edits their content to allow BTS to speak their thoughts, through their experiences at the time because BTS has been documenting themselves since BEFORE their debut, so there is A LOT of material to edit down to tell their story! She also gives an overview of the KPop history for those who are not familiar with the industry. She uses clips from different video clips of other idols/ journalists interviews to try to give a broader perspective of the industry. Her skill as a professional video editor really shines through. Amazing work! I think many ARMY really like this series (besides it being extremely well made), she doesn't try to interpret what "she thinks" BTS is trying to say, she just shows the viewers exactly what they said and shared about what their thoughts were at the time. She is an "OG" KPop fan and BTS fan since pre-debut! She also shared that BTS has been the light in her darkness for many years now. *(Cr: "FY" on yt)* I think it's important to notice the differences between BTS' worries and the other trainees worries. BTS' were worried about their own personal skills (not dancing well enough, song worries, etc), about not getting attention when they debut due to their small company, not having money, etc. While the other trainees seem to be living in fear of being cut from the company at any moment if they make one mistake, worrying about weight quotas, etc. BTS stayed until late hours because they WANTED to, while the other trainees HAD to. Obviously BTS had things they had to do too, they could've not made it to debut as Jimin almost did due to short training, but instead of using that as a fear to hold over them Bighit seemed to use it to encourage them to work harder and improve themselves. BTS were allowed to make mistakes without worrying they'd be thrown out of the company. I'm very glad that they all signed with Bighit, and that Bighit has caused a shift in the Kpop industry, lots of newer companies are giving their groups more freedom and treating them better due to BTS' success. These companies see that idols don't need to be punished and forced to do things in order to succeed, BTS are proof that freedom and happiness should be the most important thing. *(Cr: "Shannon" on yt)* Now plz understand this 1st episode shows two sides, one is typical k-pop system and how the labels/industry work, whereas subtle hints of BTS and bighit being contradictory different is shown, BTS is different from other K-pop groups and BigHit is different from other idol music companies. These first few episodes can be misleading because it makes you think BTS management follows these guidelines the other idol members from other companies are talking about, but BTS and BigHit don't do those things. Notice how when it is said idols don't have a lot of creative freedom, you see Namjoon and Yoongi writing lyrics, or when it says idols have phone bans or something, you see the BTS members on their phones, or how when idols say they aren't allowed to go outside the dorm, you see Yoongi walking around freely. It can be a confusing thing for new ARMY to make note of, but PLEASE notice these differences. It is vital to how BigHit runs differently, and therefore why BTS is so different from other idol groups from the very start. *(Cr: "Kayla Kulik" on yt)*

I want to mention that any of the artists from Big3 companies of kpop entertainment industry (SM, YG, JYP) didnt go through as many the hurdles and hardships bts went through. they gave in their blood, sweat and tears to be at the position they are today. while other idols had this fear of being cut from the agencies due to weight quota/ features, bts had this fear of not being given a chance despite their amazing talents and hardwork. they built the bighit company right from scratch, had to use their own staff as extras in their music videos, had to practice dance and produce music in the basement. Thanks to bighit, their agency that never gave up on bts and thanks to bts, not giving up on their agency and army, they supported eachother and here we are. they were given artistic freedom and they write their own lyrics and their songs contain their innerselves unlike some idols who get fed by their agency and handed out lyrics to perform. BTS proved that when you work hard and you are talented, Quality with quantity can be achieved. Over the years, after BTS got recognized and succeeded overseas and also in their home country, many agencies tried to replicate everything what BTS did. also few groups had similar concepts and music video scenes as them. BTS had their twitter account right before their debut and they often use Social media platforms to engage with their fans and motivate them. And its funny that right after BTS won their first BillBoard music award in states, all the other KPop groups and agencies made their twitter accounts. But they could'nt get the impact and popularity BTS had. As BTS were often looked down upon on variety shows because of the less impact their company had, they started making more of their own content and also releasing behind the scenes of their music videos, along with having english subtitles to connect with more of global audience, Other artists too started having their own variety shows. It's great that every group connects with their fans this way just like BTS. But we see many downplaying BTS' success because they can't digest that a group from a small company that no one knows existed made it to the top without any promotions from the media or support media support. And now that BTS are treated as national treasure of South Korea, Being ambassdors of many huge companies, and representing their country at UNICEF, UN general assembly and other world stages, it makes us proud and happy. note - BIGHIT had rules too. But they were not strict on the members. and most definitely they were not threatened by saying they'll be cut or they had to lose weight if want to debut. ( Suga being a poor teen, went against his parents approval to pursue his passion in rap and music. So he had worked in various part-time jobs to survive while he was a trainee at Bighit. And he was hit by a car and got his shoulder injured during one of his delivery boy shifts. He was scared to let the company know about his accident due to the fear of getting kicked out/cut. But Bighit found that he was injured and let him rest and paid his medical bills along with his college fees. This is just one small example of how they were treated by Bighit) . all these staying up late to produce music and practice was the members' wish because they wanted to put on a great show for their fans. Because you can see RM sitting late at night writing lyrics and SUGA producing music, and Jimin and other members used to pull all-nighters staying at their practice room, dancing and sleeping in the practice room itself. it was their passion for music and dance which led them forward. And Bang Shi-hyuk the founder himself (and now chairman of HYBE formerly called bighit) is such a visionary. He always motivated the members to do their best and did'nt strictly impose his wishes on the members. And we fans stan him as much as we stan BTS.

Bp aren’t really close to bts popularity like at all and them not having many songs aren’t for that reason, it’s marketing and just “mistreatment” by the company

The Korean birthday (age system) is different from ours (although it's supposedly going to change.) In Korea on the day of your birth, your age is 1, then on New Years Day you add another year. So when Jung Kook says in the video that he's16, his age according to the International standard is only 14 Mind Blowing how young these guys actually were when they started..

I love Blackpink so much and yes, they have a few song and they debuted in 2016 lol In my opinion is not just the 'quality over quantity 'but more about the YG company marketing strategy and honestly the majority of blinks (their fandom name) are already tired of waiting because it looks like YG only uses Blackpink when a scandal or something comes out from someone that is part of that company and it looks like YG just wants the fans for money because they are dropping merch so often. We are already so tired of that. Blink has been begging for music since forever but the last and this year.. damn. We are starving and we know that Blackpink has so much talent to show and they love music. We know they want to interact with fans and do a lot of things related to music but it seems like they can't. We truly don't know what's going on behind but one thing is for sure, YG is wasting all the opportunities that Blackpink can bring. It seems like each member is focusing a lot in solo projects and stuff and that's why so many fandoms literally say that they look now more like models than artists and sadly they are not that wrong. Luckily, they will have a comeback soon! So a lot of people are really excited about it. Anyways, BTS is the living proof that it's possible to make quantity AND quality lmao. In fact, army is always well fed and we are truly thankful for that but at the same time we want them to be happy too and rest. This "break" is something they totally deserve, it's something they need and we are here for it. 💜

A minor detail I’m mentioning simply because as someone new you won’t pick it up, is both the name of the series The Rise of Bangtan, and the name of each episode is also the name of a song in their discography.

Quick correction: When J-Hope spoke about dancing for his survival, it wasn't about how harsh it was while training under Big Hit. He was still talking about his time before being a trainee and how he was dancing for his survival hoping to succeed in one of the many auditions he went to. Those were his survival auditions. After that he talks about how he wanted to use all of his dance training and all that he learnt from auditions to truly dance like a pro and show how good he is with the group at debut. Although the trainee process was tough and really harsh, I’m still grateful for the hardships they had to face because it made BTS who they are today, hardworking, humble men who have excellent work ethic and know not to take anything for granted 💜 They never had it easy and that’s what makes them so inspiring and amazing

I liked the reaction but actually English is one of the easiest languages to learn, any language is hard but there are languages like Spanish or French that words change depending in the person gender, age, have many more verbal times and rules.

You asked who were their rap influences. BTS put out a song in 2014 called Hip Hop Lover which rattles many of those off. Side benefit it is a great song especially viewed live if you pick a version with English lyrics.

BTS discography is way more Quality and actual meaningful Content. I think between the funny moments videos the "BTS moments I think about a lot" is one of the best to start it is funny and they put titles Wich explains the context, some videos are funny but if you have never seen they shows before you can be kinda lost haha 😂 anyways I love watching all funny moments so please watch

No other group is anything close to BTS' success. BTS has 27B streams on Spotify, with a daily average of 24 Million, the next k-act only 7B with an average of 4 Million a day. BTS has the most streams on RU-vid with 26B, the next k-act has 16B. With each Comeback, BTS sells at least 3+ Million copies with their release, other Artists are far away. BTS makes items they use sell out within minutes, from a certain banana milk brand to actual cars. BTS are writing their own stuff, from group to solo music. They have a huge role on everything. They are shareholders of their own company. They contribute billions of dollars to the south korean economy. There is no group anywhere close to BTS.

Your view on this leaves out the fact that all of these trainees do it cause they want to. No one forces them, it is their dream. That's the most important point. Korea is a whole different country and culture. Their standards are different from Americans and there are very important historical reasons for it. You don't become the world's biggest band in human history by taking it easy and coddling your feelings at the moment. Their path to success is one to be admired for. Why? In just under 12 years, all still in their twenties, they have the world by its balls. Not only that, they have enough money even for their future generations to come, have the ability to get and have the absolute best this world can offer, all of their mental and physical health intact, they get to change and influence the world for a better tomorrow, and all the while they did what they each loved. They couldn't have done it if their hearts weren't in it. In addition, they did it with 6 other members who have become brothers. Koreans are built differently, we believe and understand that success has to come with sacrifice. In our history, our ruthless neighbours' aggressions have set us back too many decades and catching up to where we are today has taught us that "hard work" pays off. That "push" is something those who want more need from an outside force and Koreans, again understand and welcome this. This is why we have such high regard towards our teachers. They may appear down in the vlogs because they do these after a long day of school and practices. Again, they want this. For hunkering down for 12 years, they're sitting on the top of the world and laughing. Nothing to regret nor be shameful about.

PSY's popular songs all over the world are "Gangnamn Style" and "Gentleman". His songs, "Hangover" (ft. Snoop Dogg) and "Daddy" are kinda big too but they are certainly big in Korea along with his song "New Face". I have only heard those four songs of his. I only know of his song "New Face" through BTS because they sing it in one of their Run BTS episode, Karaoke session. Anyway, it's no big deal if you don't know any big song. I haven't even known many of American big songs because I am way occupied with BTS' music alone... and anything and anyone related to them. Before knowing them, I only heard Dynamite and I only heard that because my brother played it in the car. Maybe I was having my own world that I am not updated with the latest trends. That was of course before I became and ARMY which was just last year.

23:11 Hard work paid off for BTS. But their company allowed them freedom and the choice to work hard without being threatened or mistreated. There are so so many people out there that have been trainees for years. Anywhere between 1-10 years or more. There are only the lucky few that get to debut, and even fewer that moderately succeed. And until they earn money in masses, they live in depth to their companies as the companies pay for their necessities in their trainee days. The companies vary, but the treatment of their idols can be downright awful, or it can be alright or not that bad. I personally have only heard of Big Hit who treats their trainees with that much freedom. As of now, their program is kind of like a school where the kids can pick and choose which classes they want to be in. There is also a slight difference between girls and guys. The Korean beauty industry is already harsh. But for girl idols it is BAD. Wich is the reason why I suspect Big Hit does not have any girl groups or even trainees. While the guys generly have a bit more slack in their weight and appearance, the public is BRUTAL towards girls. Unless BigHit wants to start forcing the girls to diet and keep under a certain weight, I actually doubt that the girl group could succeed... Any idol girl that has had some curves to them (meaning not as thin as a stick), gets so much hate and criticism for it and we have seen "fans" and the public straight up punishing those girls by ignoring them and be mean and hateful. But I am not an expert and I know only surface-level stuff about the industry and the more well-known stuff.

I like your reaction :3, but Blackpink does not come close to what Bts is, in the first place they debuted 3 years after Bts, they do not compose their songs or produce them, they are only performed so they have so few songs, because they wait for them to compose and produce , they are a totally different case from bts and they are not close to what bts is at all, they come from one of the 3 big kpop agencies, so they had everything much easier than bts, since their company had money, and the truth does not compare to the success of Bts, nor in charts, awards etc.

Blackpink is not having that much Music coz of Yge...this sh*t company mistreats our girls... eventhough Blackpink want to comeback with music that company is making too long for them...even Rosé (member of Blackpink) said she wants to do music more and want to see her fans(blinks) soon

And s Blackpink do write their song...they r also involved in music but in those days..they were not much credited eventhough they co wrote their songs...even Jennie said that she cowrote the music "stay" but not get credited....and Lisa and Jennie wrote their own rap verse in one cover song ...and "as if it's ur last" song Lisa wrote her own rap verse but not get credited....and in 2020 their new album jennie and Jisoo co wrote their song "lovesick girls" and Jennie is also one of d producer of that song...and Jennie solo song named "solo" was also co composed and co produced by Jennie...and Rosé solo songs "on the ground" which was abt herself and "gone" songs were co wrote and co composed by Rosé...and Jisoo once said in an Rolling stone interview that they don't juz recieve a completed song...they r also much involved in d music and they juz add their own element in each of their songs
