Welcome to (Non-) Sensible Secondhand Reviews, the series where we usually take a sensible secondhand car worth between £1000 and £5000 and put it through its paces in a very straightforward manner! This time, however, we break all the rules (although you can buy an F20 1-Series for under £5,000) and drive a very powerful 2017 BMW M140i with rear wheel drive, Sport modes and over 300 bhp. We also avoid both forbidden fuel and Prince engines, mention the mattsbeamer channel and really do not do very much of any importance at all. Nothing untoward, then!

A great video sir. Thank you so much for keep recommending my channel. It means a lot to me. I am very glad you like the f20, I think a normal f20 would be ideal for you. My 116i can be tuned up to quite crazy figures with just a chip, but for myself in Moscow 136hp is enough. Thank you once again, sir

Yes, I don't need something this fast, sir! I would quite like a six cylinder one, though, due to the noise it makes. 136 bhp probably is good enough for city use, sir!

A couple of my friends have 140i's and they are very fast as one of my friends found out when he had only had it a few days and selected sport mode and floored the throttle on a greasy road and nearly spun it. He is a experienced driver as well.

Yes, the power of these is crazy, especially with rear wheel drive. This is why I drove it so modestly.

These make a beautifal noise, used to be one in the street I used to stay in, chap traded his Mark 2 Focus RS for one, sometimes see it getting used very quickly.... Excellent review as always.

Yes, a very nice noise, and they are fast. I don't like to think about the insurance premium that Dan pays, though! We did have some fun...

I hate to say this Joseph, this particular BMW is a victim of the Rufford Ford, as well as some other BMW vehicles. Someone I know locally has a 1 series convertible, and was also a two door available. BMW usually did not offer trim levels per se but option packages like Comfort, Lux, etc. This definitely needs a rearview camera or ultrasonic parking sensors, preferably both. I must say, however, the sound of the BMW six cylinder is intoxicating! Excellent review as always !

BMWs seem to be victims of the Rufford Ford quite often. This one was quite good fun.

One extremely rapid motor, handle with care, not suitable as a first car by any stretch of the imagination, I must drive one.

Yes, it was insanely fast, we drove it moderately, as we always do on the channel!

@@PlanetautoUK unfortunately Mr Lloyd must have left his yobbo baseball cap, hoody and youth trainers in the wardrobe that day. Although between this and the Stinger, Mr Lloyd is certainly expanding into some rather spicy vehicles recently!

I didn't realise that these were rear wheel drive! A neighbour has a more modestly engined version of this in red, which stands out in a residents car park of black, grey, silver and white cars. Not sure what engine it has but the clatter I hear in the mornings suggest a forbidden fuel version.

Yes, probably one of the engines which we cannot discuss on the channel. Those tended to be the most popular ones.

My Honda was getting repaired after a non fault knock . And a four wheel drive M135i is wha the courtesy car was . Was a absolute weapon and quite frightening at first . But being the four wheel drive it never felt twitchy . But a rear whee drive is something you can't take liberty's with

Yes, you have to treat these cars with respect, which I certainly did in terms of keeping the car in Eco mode and not accelerating hard to ensure I kept within the speed limit! The power is crazy, especially as this one has been tuned. Unless you know what you are doing, I don't recommend playing around too much with a powerful rear wheel drive car.

Very nice. I noticed that in Eco Pro mode the more powerful BMWs/Minis don’t accelerate, they gather speed. And you can still be going faster than intended. I always liked the one touch indicators, going back the other type now seems a bit old fashioned. So this channel has banned all R56&57 Mini’s? Unless of course you want to talk about the other (and better) engines that they came with. :)

We don't talk about the Prince engine, sir, or forbidden fuel engines on this channel any more. That pretty much rules out all R56 and R57 Minis, especially with the N47 engine.... The M140i was an absolute animal, it needed to be in Eco Pro mode to rein it in!

Would like to try a Mark II Escort at some point, unfortunately getting hold of one is a bit tricky as most are concours examples which understandably like to live in secure garages.

Looks like a little BMW that could quite easily take its onwer from Kent to Holland or Germany in a matter of hours without breaking sweat. Typical very dark and somber interior that used to really put me off BMWs. Then I realise that apart from the white heated leather seats in my Wife's MINI, it is completely black inside, dashboard, doors, carpets and headlining. Maybe some nice beige or white seats could have made this 140 perfect Sir.

Hello sir. Boris Johnson was on the radio here today in Holland. About climate he said it’s now or never! He said that we all need to do something about our cars. And that’s it. Nothing more.. i don’t want to bring politics here or something but i don’t understand what he wants.. take everybody’s cars away? Maybe you know what’s he’s saying. If you don’t want to response to this i understand! Nice video again sir!

Boris Johnson does say some funny things sometimes. They won't be taking our cars away, don't worry. We like to stay out of politics on the channel anyway, as there are plenty of other places to get involved in such debates.

I do believe that you should replace your Tweed jacket when reviewing a vehicle like this. Maybe where a snapback baseball cap, a hoody and some gaudy trainers sir! These or similar are normally seen driven around certain housing estates making questionable business transactions through windows sir

wow! not very sensible secondhand review material but great car nonetheless. I think this was the last of the RWD models........................so what next on sensible secondhand reviews, an aventador?!

That's right, this car is actually eligible for Sensible Secondhand Reviews, as you can buy a lesser version for under £5,000. This particular one is not sensible at all, however, and this was the last rear wheel drive 1-Series.
