Non-Verbal to Verbal in ONE YEAR!

I am a special education Para. For an elementary school, I work with a lot of autistic children. Some verbal some non verbal anyways. I just want to give you a little background about me and why I understand so much about autism without having a child with autism it was so cute seeing her be like A where are you? I'm so proud of the progress she's made and I'm so proud of you for all that you do as a mom with a child that has autism it's not easy and you're doing a wonderful job.Good job mom and good job niko

I was you 37 years ago when my son was diagnosed with severe autism. I did the same thing as you and my son at the age of 3 finally said his first real word. Keep doing what you are doing. You are what we call up in Montreal, a Warrior Mom! Joshua is now living in his apartment with his girlfriend. He graduated from Concordia University with a degree in Computer Science and is currently working at Bethesda Games as a video game programmer. I bet Mikel will do great as she gets older because of what you are doing with her.

I so enjoy watching Miko! She reminds me so much of my daughter Emonnie. I am Hispanic and get her daddy is black! Emonnie had the exact same hair as Miko! Her teeth were like Miko as well! She sucked on a pacifier for a long time. She now has prefect straight teeth. I took care of her hair like u do with Miko. Growing up she begged me for a straight perm and I said absolutely NOT! She would straighten it through out high school but now she wears it curly so naturally. Emonnie is now 25. She is in her last year of college. She lives on her own and works full time! She is very strict about her credit score! I will forever be so proud of her. I raised her and her two older brothers by myself waiting serving tables. Very blessed to be able to accomplish raising my children. I was only 14 when I had my son. I kept going to school and in the summer I got a job at that young age of 14. Very proud of all three of them!❤❤

Thank you for posting this. My daughter is on spectrum and is nonverbal. She’s 2 and is barely starting to use phonics. ASL is my daughters first language and we got to speech therapy weekly, as well as have in home occupational therapy.

I Love this family. God bless you I know it's not easy. I have raised a daughter struggling with mental illness and torment. She is now 26. It has been a living hell for both of us...her 100,000 Xs worse of course... But for the Grace of God we both would not still be alive. God is my rock, and I still continue to stand in prayer, trusting him. Blessing again to you, Mikko, Chris, and the twins.

My 3rd son Anu have the same issue . He sings like an angel from heaven though he doesn't speak often. I feel like something has locked his speech. Today I was reading the dictionary out loud and his reaction was amazing

Tbh, I don't remember reading or learning any words until I was in first grade. That was 52 years ago. In kindergarten we learned the alphabet and how to draw letters. Keep up the good work. Miko is doing great! As time passes standards and expectations change. Miko is ahead of where non-challenged children were 50 yrs ago. Remember that. 😊

shes doing amazing in her way and your guiding her is showing! While my son ( who's almost 16) isn't on the spectrum , we had to work a lot with speech therapy to have him use proper tongue placement and i remember the struggle and having to slow myself down when i talked to him so he could learn from us. Keep at it!

Mikko is an amazing little girl. Keep working with her. She is going to make you so proud. My four year old needs some speech therapy, but she communicates just fine. She also has that Elmo doll, it used to be mine lol 💕

She has made such good strides. My baby is about to be 5 and we are still trying very hard to get him to speak. He has been getting speech therapy for almost 3 years and was doing very well but unfortunately regressed after we had to put therapy on hold for a month after i had our last baby. Now we are back to therapy 3 times a week. Hoping he will catch back up.

She is doing so great! It makes me smile seeing how very smart she is and improving all the time. I worked for NYC Board of Education. I worked with children of autism as a paraprofessional. They know everything and understood . It’s just that they were not able to make their bodies respond the way they want it too. It was great and eye opening watching and learning what they knew! ❤😃
