I have a suggestion if anyone needs one for Web - Entangled Life: How Fungi Make Our Worlds, Change Our Minds & Shape Our Futures. Fabulous and fascinating!
I am both so excited and such a slow reader that I have decided to start early and have just begun my first book for NN. It's called The Witch of Lime Street: Séance, Seduction, and Houdini in the Spirit World by David Jaher. It features both Houdini and Sir Artur Conan Doyle, who was a great believer in spiritualism. I am not sure which of the challenges I will match it with, but it will fit a couple of them. This is, hands down, my favorite booktube event of the year!
Recently finished Patrick Stewart's memoir MAKING IT SO; largely focused on his early childhood/teen years and much of his stage acting work (although he does talk about STAR TREK and X-MEN as expected). Such a good writer. Most keep bringing up "Dickensian" when talking about this book...........but honestly accurate; you do feel like you're back in time reading about his life.
I need to read Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil, as a native Georgian who remembers its release, but I was in middle school and thus not interested. Currently reading Killers of the Flower Moon, but will be done before November. That could fit web though. Also, How Music Got Free could fit fraud or capital, as someone who traded mp3s for all sorts of favors as a teen/college student.
This is the second time in as many weeks that Digital Gold has been recommended to me. I'm definitely getting this book. Thank you for all the other recommendations as well, Olive.
I now have 5 books on my TBR for non fiction November 🤦🏼♀️ I used web = trap 😊😊😊 thinking of a spiders web. For display I thought of using visibility and picked disability visibility 💕 thanks for the recommendations 😊
I just subscribed to you channel. Gina Stanyer "sent me over". Glad I came! I never read non-fiction, but some of these sounded pretty good! I will put them on my TBR, thank you 😊
Out of books I've already read, I recommend: Fraud: Red Notice by Bill Browder, The Russian Affair by David Walsh, The Field of Blood by Joanne Freeman Web: Peaceful Neighbor A Countercultural Mister Rogers by Michael G. Long, Dancing in the Streets by Barbara Ehrenreich, Floating Coast by Bathsheba Demuth Capital: Empire of Mud by Jeff Dickey, Games Without Rules The Often Interrupted History of Afghanistan by Tamim Ansary Display: Dress Diary Secrets From a Victorian Woman's Wardrobe by Kate Strasdin, Queen of Fashion by Caroline Weber, Hero of Two Worlds by Mike Duncan, Rochambeau by Jini Jones Vail, Rush by Stephen Fried
Love your NFN videos! I was just thinking of reading a Stephen Kinzer book today and then came across this video now. I don't need to think twice, that's going to be my NFN read!
Some great picks! I was just looking at Lurking! I'm thinking of reading The Museum of Whales You Will Never See based on Icelandic museums for the Display theme. I love just how diversely you can interpret these words!
Can't wait for next month! I haven't fully decided what I'm planning on reading yet, but for audiobook The Poisoner's Handbook, for ebook I think My Mother the Serial Killer by Hazel Baron, Janet Fife-Yeomans.
I know from previous videos you give fantastic non fiction recommendations, so really pleased to see this video, and, unsurprisingly, I have added 4 to my TBR list. Thank you for a great video.
So many good recommendations! I really don't need more books on my TBR right now but I couldn't help it and added 6 books. I can't resist a good nonfiction!
I've already read Midnight in The Garden of Good and Evil and was planning on watching the film at some point. Guess this is my sign to watch it, and then watch your comparison video afterwards!
I’ve just started Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil. I just finished Victorian Secrets: What a Corset Taught Me about the Past, the Present, and Myself. Now I’m wishing I had waited until November as I think it could fit a few of your prompts.
My nonfiction for November was “The End of Alzheimer’s” by Dale E Bredesen, MD - Professor U CLA. SUBTITLT: The First Program to prevent and Reverse Cognitive Decline”. An explanation of 20 years of research to come up with a protocol that addresses Alzheimer’s across multiple symptoms. Worth reading, probably more than once.
Great recommendations! There she was sounds great, I’m also interested in the Sounds like Titanic book. I never ever read nonfiction, I will use the challenge as an extra push.
I believe I am going to pick up Mellon: An American Life for Capital. We moved far, far away from Pittsburgh & I think I need some non-fiction related to my home city. I loved Mark Kurlansky's Winterlust! I added a lot of his other books and Havana to my TBR, as well as The Emperors of the Deep. A book about sharks sounds like something I need to pass onto a friend.
I’m going to read Entangled Life by Merlin Sheldrake for the challenge word “Web” and Bittersweet by Susan Cain for “Display”. Both books are already on my TBR list.
Thanks, Olive. I will be reading River of the Gods by Candice Millard ("Genius, Courage, and Betrayal in the Search for the Source of the Nile") and Over the Edge of the World by Laurence Bergreen ("Magellan's Terrifying Circumnavigation of the Globe").
Oh, Midnight in the garden is one of my favorite books. I need to do a reread. I hope to be reading The Final Witness which i believe will fit all the prompts. I’ll also be reading A Home For all Seasons by Gavin Plumley. I don’t know that it will fit any of the prompts, but it’s the comfort book club selection for November and I’m looking forward to reading it. Actually Miranda did say he includes some nature writing in the book, so it may cover a prompt ❤️. I am loving your beautiful autumnal look too, Olive. Have a great week🧡🍁🧡🍂
Hi Olive! I really enjoy binge watching your vlogs! I'm celebrating #nonfictionnovember and just launched a rather lengthy video on my channel, of recommendations. In a few weeks I'll share new-to-me nonfiction books . . . although I may not do the individual keyword challenges. Thanks for spearheading this great tag. : ) Your enthusiasm is infectious!
I just picked up An Immense World and am looking forward to reading it. But to cover all four prompts, I'm going to try Putin's People: How the KGB Took Back Russia and Then Took on the West.
hi abookolive I love this video but I'll like to know what is your personal interest in non fiction, do you prefer self help or informative non fiction books??
The only Non-fiction book I can recommend is "On Writing" By Stephen King. It's more of a biography about King but he wrote it. Warning, it can be a bit grossly descriptive in some parts
I love Non-fiction so I do have TBR for nonfiction that I have been collecting. I am not at all sure what of the prompts any of these will work with, so here goes what I have; Disraeli by Andre Maurois, translated from the French by Hamish Miles; Overture of Hope by Isabel Vincent; A book I have been looking forward to, Mutual Admiration Society by Mo Moulton; The Ship Of Dreams by Gareth Russell (another book I have been looking forward to); Unruly by David Mitchell (this is about the kings and queens of England, I ordered it as soon I saw an interview with the author.) ; And last but definitely not least; The Revolutionary Samuel Adams by Stacy Schiff. I am proud only one of them is American. Though I love American History I have been reading a lot of European history lately.) Anyway, help with the prompts please.
I am going to read AMERICAN PROMETHEUS by Kai Bird and Martin J. Sherwin. It is on my TBR for such a long time and after watching Oppenheimer, I really, really wanna get to it. I choose to use it as my pick for DISPLAY - since they put Oppenheimer's personal life, his character and all his flaws and mistakes on public display to destroy him and his reputation...
Great video.. thanks for inviting us to post our recommendations. THE U.S. 2023 HIGH POWER BILL CRISIS, CUT YOUR HIGH POWER BILL IN HALF TODAY, The Simple Art of Reducing Energy Consumption- 90 min read… I hope it helps the Universe I adore.. Thanks
Definitely going with the challenges! I bought 'Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil' a few months ago, so it's my 'fraud' book. For 'web' I'm reading 'Because Internet' by Gretchen McCullouch. 'Just my Type' by Simon Garfield is the book I'm going with for 'capital' because it's about typography. For 'display' I'm going with the interpretation of reading something that interests me, so I'm reading 'The Etymologicon' by Mark Forsyth. Those are the books that fit the prompts, but I think I might also find some more nonfiction books to listen to on 'Scribd', depending on my mood.
