U.S.-based short-seller Hindenburg Research, which had levelled some serious allegations at the Adani Group including stock market manipulation and accounting fraud, on July 2 said it has received a show cause notice from Indian capital market regulator SEBI over alleged violations in placing bets on the conglomerate stocks.

SEBI operates under law, its functioning and members are open for everyone to know But Hindenberg doesn't tell anything about itself, There is clear need for investigation in this matter, If hindenberg is right, there is nothing to fear.

So basically, the short was very perfectly planned keeping all the laws in mind domestic international both, now the govt is doing face saving acts through SEBI. Coz how does sebi have jurisdiction over hindenberg? Its registerd in Nyork Also if kotak acted as per short selling laws, then they cant be questioned either. So what is SEBI after??? The matter was now almost forgotten, by issuing a show cause they have raked it up again. Sebi should let it go.

It is the business of Hindenburg to worldwide find companies that are going against laws, short those shares and publish a report showing all the cheating. If Adani shares crashed so much then may be there is something because at that time many were selling. Hindenburg does this in the US also against American companies and in other countries also. No one complains. As it is legal. Why SEBI is complaining, one can guess. And since SEBI doesn't have any jurisdiction in the US, what is the legal value of this letter? This is the question.

No, actually it seems Kotak will be under scanner. Slander is a criminal offense, if you use slander to destroy reputation which can't be proved then a case can be made against you. Although Kotak is not directly responsible but in India you can make retrospective laws which can be made punishable, so one should be very careful against using slander directly or indirectly for profiteering, its even more dangerous if it is very high profile case. This is a calculated move by Sebi.

If it's a crime, the software won't allow to do that or take the order from BSE or NSE, but Insiders trading is banned, Every time you buy a put option or sell a Call option, you expect to make profit from fall of Share value

Agree SEBI has no jurisdiction, but still a smart thing that it has given legal notice. If Hindenburg ignores it, then they will be in legal trouble in indian jurisdiction, and their associates may even get arrested if found in India. Likely most indian firms will stay away from Hindenburg or anyone associated with them, and Hindenburg will never be able to start anything on their own in India. Besides, no one in India will take them seriously if they do a similar job with any indian company next time.
