Noob's Guide to Brakes! 

Dit you now that drumbrakes on smalltire trailers voor trucks brake better than discs. Because the have more surface to brake. I am talking about 17 inch wheels. I drive a 2019 daf with brake discs on the truck and drumbrakes on the trailer.

Drilled rotors kinda remind me on my first eraser. I drilled holes in it and wondered why they broke while erasing.

2:58 disc brakes look way better than drum brakes when rust starts to form. drums just end up looking like a hunk of rust behind your wheels (which is probably why most old cars had giant hub caps to hide them lol)

The fact that you directly go straight to the subject in not even 3 seconds deserves a huge like.

Unless you have deep ass pockets DO NOT buy drilled and slotted brakes! They wear out faster.

My Noobs guide on Brakes: Brembos are expensive. So paint your calipers red and put a Brembo sticker on them. Boom more stopping power added!!!

After seeing the way he was able to love that car and that it's so underestimated I ended up falling in love with it. I'm 14 now and I'm planning on getting my hands on either a 1971 ford pinto, R32, S14, or a used Toyota Corolla so your videos have helped me in learning more about cars and what I can do to make my vehicle match the way I drive and use my car as efficiently as possible in the way I want to use it. Something you forgot to mention about slotted/drilled discs is their ability to channel braking dust away. Its important when braking harder for long periods of time as the brake dust will reduce the braking force. Hence that's why you have discs that are both drilled and slotted

Drum brakes are the parking brakes in certain manufacturers vehicles..... P.S.: THANKYOU for pointing out what slotted and drilled rotors are for. You wouldn't believe the ongoing arguements on many forums over their usefulness, or lack thereof. Most of those guys seriously believe they are only to look pretty. Honestly most of those guys don't even brive their performance vehicles like performance vehicles 🤢

I only got drilled rotors with 1521 pads because I do alot of mountain runs even though I drive a suv. I do drive in hard up and down the road and I would usually kill my rotors and pads after only 30k miles so I decided to upgrade and they do a great job

I’m a car mechanic in the UK, rear drums are absolutely fine and not expensive to replace at all. Infact for a 20 year old car it could potentially be on its original set and in good working order.

I have drilled and slotted rotors on my 03 Honda Accord because that what it came with when I bought it used.

For all these people that want to upgrade brakes at all, go for tires first. They help more with having a contact patch that wants to stick to the road. Go try dragging your toes across the ground then drag your foot, your foot will be harder to move as there's a better contact patch. That's basically how your tires work when braking

The most unfortunate thing about my vehicle is that it uses single piston all around, but luckily for me someone makes a kit for the car to install 4 pison calipers on the front, as soon as the vehicle needs front calipers, it is getting that 4 piston upgrade

Slots in rotors also clean off the brake dust and debris while braking, increasing the longevity of the rotor

Ceramic as a material polishes itself smooth over time, so I wouldn't imagine it'd be great as a friction material for braking.

Drums work great for semi, and they are super easy to work on. Reason why they are better on semi is because it covers more surface area. Super easy uses 3 springs.

I could be wrong but I thought that the reason slotted/drilled rotors are used isn’t only for air flow but mostly to let the gases from the pads escape as they wear. As the pads wear especially under heavy use they give off gases which can create a layer between the pad and rotor, the slots/holes allow these gases to escape and thus aid braking.

I have drilled rotors I love them but damn is it a pain to update them when swapping pads had to get them evened out and took a whole day

The best cheap/effective setup is slotted discs with standard pads. They are cheap and the slots will take care of the extra dust. Vented ofc

I know someone who has a BMW i3 and his brakes are still pretty much fresh cus all he uses is the regenerative braking and he's gotten used to it. He said in his ownership of the car (70k plus miles he says) he's touched the brake maybe only 100 or so times when he first got the car

remember that painting your calipers red gives you more horsepower, the nitrons in the red pigment surge though the metal in your car and energize your fuel and blinker fluid, this is also why red cars are more expensive to insure.

Can't believe how much they try to charge to do the brakes at shops. I just needed my front pads and rotors replaced and the shop quoted me *$1,200!* Just bought the parts for like $120 and did it myself in like 1 1/2 hours.

You can daily slotted and drilled if you downshift to your stop and only use them lightly. Wear down slower and it's there when you want to have those spirited driving

The way to stop skeecking breaks is to dab some copper grease on the pads when you change your break pads.

I run legit police pads and LV dot5.1 with solid HD disc rotors it stops on the dime and last 2 years before they ever start squealing, bout 30-50$ for all four wheels plus the rotors last 100k miles easy. I use anti squeal springs that quicken and even out the piston return force too so its an all around good stopper with rubber lines and I havent overshot any stops sprinting through lights or dead stopping at 75mph downhill for a 2008 mercury mountaineer weighed down, every year if the brake fluids dirty enough I flush the brake system clear

Time to put 10 piston brakes front and rear on my S2000! But really I just have RX8 rear calipers to use S197 GT rear vented rotors to upgrade from solid smol rotors

My e46 m3 came stock with drilled discs, they never ever squeaked for me, but the stock BMW pads hummed loudly under heavy braking when warm and they faded badly on track, front and rear. I permanently damaged the pads on a one mile track topping out at 90mph in less than ten minutes. I now run performance friction z rated and 08 pads front/rear and there is so much less noise due to less gas coming off the pad. They still dont squeak so my personal experience doesn't tally up with what this video says about drilled discs.

when people say you need to change your brake pads is basically the same as somebody pointing an your cars alternator and saying “nice turbo”

Slots in the rotor are for brake dust disbursement, drilled is for cooling. Slots, extend the life and grip not cooling. Drilled only offers cooling benifit.

i want to do rear brake converter for my 5spd AE101 but i dont know which brake the rear is fit because they dont make aftermarket rear brake for my car so i must know the actual fit that compatible from other car.

11:35 *usually*. I have 8 piston Ksports on my 18in Works. Tho it important to note that i run a 13” rotor, not a 14+ in.

I raced a dirt oval with a 2003 dodge neon. Our brake line to the back drum brakes broke. We clamped it off. (Basically making the brakes extra weight and nothing else) and there was hardly a difference in breaking (other than spinning a little when we dive a corner)

Drilled or slotted aren’t fit heat dissipation at all. They are to help vent off gasses from certain types of pads when your brakes get hot under heavy loads because when your brakes get hot on a normal rotor when you start using them hard a gas layer could form under heavy braking hence brake fade. Slotted helps removed this gasses. Drilled does the same thing but are prone to cracking.
