NOOB'S GUIDE to HELMAN GHORST | TOTAL WAR: WARHAMMER III 

I kinda love that he's matched up against Kugath. It makes perfect sense that he would have a grudge against the embodiment of disease and decay, and that the Plaguefather would have an especial interest in destroying a man whose origin story is him not being able to catch a disease.

I've always liked Ghorst as a character because his whole motivation is so understandable. It wasn't lust for power or fear of death that made him seek the dark arts, it was grief. When you do the Liber Noctis quest, he talks to his brothers to begin, assuring them that he will return them to life, truly. His entire ethos is "death is bogus, we're reversing it" and it's refreshing. Mannfred would torture you because he needs you to fear him. Kemmler would torture you because he is insane. Vlad would torture you because you disobeyed him. Ghorst doesn't care. He's on his way to cure death forever and if you get caught in the crossfire, well, he'll put you back together when he figures the whole thing out.

"Helman was a farmer who lived in Sylvania" That sums pretty much of his origins, in there, you either become a living corpse or an inmortal sin against nature and having multiple non consensual encounters with inquisitors which end up with one of them paying with its lives

“He already knew Veterinary medicine, and aren’t humans just bipedal horses?” This made me laugh, but also reminds me of the Discworld book “Feet of Clay”. When the leader the city is poisoned, guard commander Vimes calls in a racing horse vet to take care of him. Because if a human patient dies it is sad, but if a racing horse dies the owner has lost hundreds of dollars and angry mobsters might be after you for ruining their sports betting operation. The Vet is required to produce results.

-Vlad is what you get if a Dungeon Master is the traditional sort: mimics the living aristocracy, lots of vampire court politics, and a vampire lord just sympathetic enough that the players might actually have a debate about the need to kill him. -Mannfred is what you get if a Dungeon Master is more direct: sure, he's capable, but nobody is going to like him, and defeating him by exploiting his arrogance is always satisfying...unless the players don't realize he's a coward at heart, and let him fly off to plan his vengeance, in which case the players are DEFINITELY going to regret underestimating him as much as he did them. -Ghorst is what you get if a Dungeon Master is "realistic:" why yes, why WOULD a necromancer bother with something exotic, like zombie dragons and giant wrecking ball bats, when he can probably do just as well with an unending mob of zombies? Heck, he might even do BETTER with zombies, if that's all he decides to focus on! In fact, why even have a secret cabal of skilled necromancers, when you can just recruit rookie wizards by the dozen and teach them the Zombie Arts?

Ghorst is legit my favorite vampire character. I love it when tier 1 units can be scary as hell. My only sadness is that the Vamp Counts don't have *any* ranged units besides the Von Carstein ones which kiiiinda suck with mobs of zombles.

Over the years Ghorst has really found a special place in my heart. I understand some people were upset we didn’t get some other generic Carstein and hell I was at the start but now game 3 is out I really do appreciate just a bloke who is very upset that his family died. It’s not some over the top guy who can 1 v 100 the greatest fighters it’s just a man who’s sick of people dying. In a world of god like heroes, and everything in between it’s nice just having Ghorst.

Fun fact: the whole 'Komodo Dragons use septic bites for hunting' thing, has been debunked, as it's been found they actually have proper venom glands. Not to say they don't probably have a lot of bacteria in their mouth, but it's probably as much a factor as it wouldn've been for T.Rex: i.e. none. Anywho, this was a fun vid, perfect for Halloween and doubly so for the horror bit you did with the meeting of Ghorst and Mannfred. Looking forward to Kroq-gar, he was actually my first proper campaign back in 2!

Even as someone who doesn't play this game, your videos are a wonderful introduction to the universe. Also bonus points for the Edgar Allen Poe parody.

I can confirm that ghorst has one of the easiest starts in IE. There are a couple skaven settlements near his starting location, and combined with a skaven army that is in one of the towns, you can easily get massive casualties in one of your first engagements. Pretty sure I lost almost 3/4 of my army in that one battle. So a few turns later, I had a terrorgheist in my army, which accounted for a decent portion of army upkeep since zombies are so cheap. Just keep a couple of terrorgheists in your army to dogpile any large entities or lords after the fight starts.

I was the only guy I'm aware of whose favorite lord was helman ghorst in wh2. I must say this video is everything I could have hoped to find as I march my zomboys on an unfortunate band of high elves.

As a fan of poe, I can most appreciate that homage to the Raven very much sir!

You forgot to mention that Ghorst's unique skill line gives even FURTHER bonuses to Zombies, including immunity to contact effects-so they can't be poisoned, frostbitten or set on fire and have their regeneration hampered- AND Ravenous Dead which grants them-even MORE- healing in melee. :D

I would argue that dinosaurs with robotic doom-fists require a whole new level of due diligence. Good video as always my fellow human mammal.

I find Cathay is your best Ally, great money maker, and allows you to hire Ranged Units. You can trade with Zhao Ming super early. If you Grind the Lahmian Blood Line to level 2 you get +30 relations with Cathay and Empire. This can get you to an early Defensive alliance with Zhao (T20s). Now you can build an Outpost and start hiring ranged units. If you want to rush the alliance, send an army to deal with the dissenter lords holding the city next to Zhao and gift him the city. Requires you to hire a Master Necromancer on turn one or two and start building an army and requires trespass unless you wait for military access from Zhao but by then its likely Zhao has gotten the city back himself. Gifting him a Captial city blows away any trespass negatives.

Each time I come back and hear that new version of Nevermore, it's a wave of appreciation for the work you put in on these. And it's funny to hear that Ghorst wasn't popular at first, because honestly he's argubly my favourite character.

A Mortis Engine is the best single starting unit a army can have, even better than a necrofex. The ogres are the only race with armies that are not heavily damaged by it.

Ghorst himself is a monster in slowly draining everything around him with the relinquary damage. It just takes a while but you can easily take ouy whole stacks with him.

Instead of just parking Ghorst NEAR the frontlines, you could also ride his corpse cart into melee and use its Mortis Engine effect. In other words, you start off with two Mortis Engines, which are only made better through one of Ghorst's skills that doubles the effect's effective range...That is if the tooltip is to be trusted, unlike the Balefire Corpse Carts. Heavy on the lore, light on the gameplay this time around.

That moment when he said "I'm gonna Ghorst!" and then Ghorsted all over everyone was truly one of the moments of all time

Your jokes are getting better and better with each one of these. If I wasn't already convinced that my potato PC could actually run TWW3 I would give it a go and enjoy all of these characters as they have been hilariously described. Keep up the good work!
