You need to refresh the event weapon. This makes you won't waste so many gems. You must refresh after 50 gems.

You should have opened the novice and fighter chests you had before the winner chests. That way, you could have unlocked the skins in the smaller chests instead of the bigger ones where you can get parts. Also, refresh sooner. I don't think it's worth dumping all those gems trying to chase after the 70 or 80 part prizes if you already earned a lot before.
