EPISODE 1 - Intro & Choosing the Right Certification Course
I quit my corporate job in Singapore after working for 19 years on 24 Jul 2019, flew to New Zealand the very next day and signed myself up for an 8 weeks professional Ski Instructor course (NZSIA Level 1 & 2). See my progress, challenges and drama that comes along with this “Hoiruble Adventure”! Regular VLOGS throughout this journey that will give you an idea if you are thinking of the same thing!

You were not a newbie. I can tell from that short clip in Nesiko. You didn't have too many bad habits. I judge most people's skill from the way they release since that's the hardest thing to unlearn from the traditional teaching method.

Hey, I'm thinking of doing a course as well! Did you apply straight to the Rookies Academy or the course was provided from bigger trip organisers, like Snowminds? What do you think of them?

Hi hi...tks for watching! I haven't tried the other providers but I had a great experience with Rookies and I dare say most of our trainees keep coming back. The main reason is because of the quality and diversity of the trainers! You can reach out to me via Instagram and I can try to help link you up with the organizers :)

ski ability is unnecessary to wear an instructor coat... most important is the mirror test.... put on the coat look in a mirror you are a ski instructor now. hold that mirror up to your face and if it fogs you are level I. Now get out there and learn how to ski in front of your paying customers.

In the 90's we routinely put ski instructors on a snowboard for one hour and then assigned them lessons.

Some times the weakest skier in a try out is the strongest performer as a professional. the best candidates are easy to spot .Rarely a skillful skier successfully try's out for ski school and excels as an instructor. The best learn more and more about their own skiing developing teaching plans from their own learning experiences.

I shagged poles for Phil and Steve at their camp at Bachelor in '86. They were celebrity coaches and relied on ski instructors like me to do the actual coaching while they skied the course and answered questions about their Olympic successes never giving a tip or pointer.

In the rarest of all cases Deb Armstrong has done the best job of transitioning from a Olympic Gold medal to educator. It is very difficult to turn off the competitive drive and refocus all that sharp internal attention into a soft external glow.

If you are a competent skier or not, I could teach you everything you need to know about ski instruction in one day. THE RIGHT WAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Class handling and teaching from beginner to world class racer. One DAY! It's not that hard. How much did that way cost?
