@@carlotta4th I think relating the final shot with the ancestor on the horse is an interesting idea. Hollywood attempted to forget the true history of this Black family's contribution to motion picture history, taking it all for themselves. This makes the final shot of O.J. sitting on a horse even more meaningful. They got their Oprah shot, and no one can erase or take that away from them (this time). I don't know if this was Jordan Peels's intention, but it's a great way to tie everything together.

OJ having been sitting uptop the horse under the Out Yonder sign has always made me feel that Lucky and him are actually ghosts. I could hear a horse shriek during OJs stand off with Jean Jacket. And since OJ doesn't come rushing up to his sister at the end tells me that it isn't really happening.

he was training it the same way someone trains a wild bear by feeding it. once the food is held back, the animal quickly becomes angry and attacks the one that fed it

Except even he thought it was a flying craft, inhabited by Aliens, so while he didn’t think he was taming an animal, the theme is still relevant.

Right. The movie is also largely about how humans have always manipulated nature for their own entertainment or gratification and forced natural forces into human-defined roles/narratives. The fact that the "alien" looks both like a weather balloon and a biblical angel, hints at the wider scope of humans' misinterpretation of random natural forces.

I'm an atheist, but I grew up reading the bible, and it's like every TINY detail put into Jean Jacket is a call back: to both reports of those 'alien-was-just-a-weather-balloon' stories, and old religious accounts. Jean Jacket _sounds_ the way the bible describes the arrival or appearance of god -- it sounds like the blowing of horns, choruses; and low, multiple voices. Remembering the way they would often say, 'No one can look at god and live', had me half-grimacing, imagining the way folks way back in the day might have interacted with this creature, within the universe of the movie...dudes in robes being swept up by this thing while everyone else averts their gaze and worships. 😅 And I wonder about further implications. Like, I get that Gordy was a wild animal and that exploitation of them can't but go wrong some of the time, that Jupe was deeply affected by him, and that's why gordy's part of the story... But it also feels like the fact that his gift being a bunch of reflective balloons which floated around and popped is pointing, perhaps, to there being a history there. Like, if monkeys lived in a world with these creatures flying around, then of _course_ there would be an added reason for them to be disquieted by floating reflective shapes, and to completely freak out once those shapes make popping noises. They have an instinct around being hunted by these things, from an evolutionary standpoint.

It would make far fetched, but scary sense.. imagine humanity met with this species since ancient times but due to their ,, beautiful,, visual, they were interpreted as something divine, thus making people pray or avoid eye contact and bow, making them luckily immune. Then drawing them as biblically accurate angels and telling stories in holy books

The label said it was a type of blood pressure medication. Kinda standard for a guy his age. But yea that sounds like a nice motivation beyond 'the glory'.

That's the single best interpretation of this movie I've ever heard. It makes so much more sense with how production companies like Disney and WB are more interested in quantity over quality. They'd rather have a five course meal made up of pieced together snacks rather than a single steak that's been seasoned and cooked to perfection.

yea there's the whole theme of hollywood in this movie, it criticizes things about the industry with the predator/prey theme parallel

Wow, I've only ever really looked at the parallels between OJ and Jupe in how they treat animals and have respect for them vs thinking they're above them. I've never considered a metaphor towards Hollywood. That puts the entire movie in a new perspective to me. That's amazing.
