All I can say is I’ve watched 90% of your videos and that’s only because I’m still running back through some of the earlier videos. I’ve never once said or thought the content was anything less than amazing. You’re showing us something we don’t get to see much of down in the US. I can’t imagine seeing the equipment you run in person. I mean a 45’ drill is a full load going down the road in central Indiana. So please, please never change a thing. Keep on farming brother. We’ll be here to support ya.

You don’t make money in the good years… you make it in the poor years to set yourself up for the good years. If Mike just kept staying the same every year the farm would no longer be growing and if you aren’t growing in any business you are falling behind as someone else is gonna take advantage of you. This doesn’t even have to apply to mikes farm, we had 48 milking cows 12 years ago… we now just build are 2nd freestall barn of 480 cows in each barn putting us just at 1,000 cows. Unfortunately the only way farms are profitable is to continually increase production or risk being left behind… it’s just the way capitalism works.

The carts really should move to being electric. Get rid of all that hydraulic crap on the cart. Use batteries as ballast on the tractor, which can charge them when excess power is available like when going downhill. It is the logical thing to do. Look at Edison motors with their serial hybrid electric logging truck. Electric axles would gets rid of the transmission, which is the most expensive part of the tractor. Run a generator in series with batteries and electrify the cart. Same can be done on combines. Bonus, battery packs and skid mounted generators could be swapped between tractor and combine as they don’t run at the same time on this type of farm. Now, the real interesting thing about all these serial hybrid tractors and combines sitting in the yard 95% of the year not being used. They can be networked as a distributed power-plant making money on the off season. This is already being trialed with school-busses. Why not use this idle horsepower for distributed peaker plant grid power. When its -40 in Scratchybum these things could be making serious money hooked to the grid.
