Norah Jones - The Long Way Home (Tom Waits Cover) - Live 04-16-2020 

Dear Norah, long time ago I went through all kinds of transportation to get to you with my road and soul mate friend. We flew by plane, drove car, caught a trainride long way round, a boat and a bus, a taxi just to see you perform in Lucca, 2012. I almost got fired from my job, since, they did not allow days off, unless weekend. I worked in Jablanica, in Bosnia and Herzegovina back then. It was neck-breaking trip, in three day alone, (google Earth Jablanica and Lucca, distance and connectivity, zero to none), to see you perform. The show was great, but to be complete , this song was missin, and we are both so sure you were about to sing it, but you've seen bandeira someone's holding in front row, we were third row left to stage, and you switched. I never got over it. It was like, we literally lived out that song in three days course, and it would be the round story if it were sung then and there. So, at least, thank you for this. Has my collective unconscious merged with yours, and you've heard my wishes? Did I send out this song to universe to be played like this? We'll never know. But, thank you.

Yep, it has been 3 years since Norah Jones was spending Covid at home with her piano and guitar. Running into this again, I am reminded how much I enjoyed listening, watching her in such a casual environment. I went from someone that liked Norah Jones to someone that truly appreciates her wonderful talent!

By the way people are very right in saying you should record and release these. Would also be interesting to record them with a bit of lo-fi approach, like Springsteen did with Nebraska. No production, just a woman with a great song and a beautiful voice and a chunky guitar. Nothing else needed.

A very faithful cover of one of my favorite songs ever; captures the spirit, the core of Tom Waits's composition but her vocal flourishes and soothing and silky voice are a nice variation to the world weary and gritty, gravelly tones struck by Mr. Waits (which I also hold dear). Fantastic how interpretations can do that. Bravo to you Norah. I also learned a good bit watching the fret work, thanks for helping me decipher some of the movement through and away from that A chord.

“Feels Like Home” came out when I was in preschool and we used to listen to the album all the way through during nap time. I never fell asleep once during nap time because I was so entranced by this music. I was absolutely (and still am) in LOVE with Norah Jones. Listening to these songs now gives me such an intense feeling of nostalgia and comfort that I just can’t describe it. Brings back all the positive feelings of being a child without a care, safe and warm in bed. I get teary listening to that album still. Thank you giving us the gift of your voice and music, Norah ❤️

I saw once that she used to live in an incredibly humble apartment being such a star already. Maybe she never moved. Everything, from that seemingly austere furniture, to the seemingly rustiness of her instruments and voice, transpires and inspires humbleness and perfection. She seems to have some in-born wisdom that translates into a quiet and mysterious beauty.

At this point it's been years since the isolation days of Norah making youtube videos but god damn. It's not the only time you've covered the song, it probably won't be the last, but this is my favorite combination of songwriter and and performer I've ever heard. And that's coming from someone who absolutely loves Danger Mouse and every moment on Little Broken Hearts.
