i have cyclic vomiting syndrome and watching this video made me cry because cvs is such a uncommon disease that doctors don’t study it as much (at least where i’m from) so barely anyone talks about it and finally hearing someone talk about it in a professional way makes me so happy because it’s spreading awareness for rare diseases like cyclic vomiting syndrome

I am an Arab, and I suffer from this disease, but it is severe... it affects me every two weeks... no doctor has diagnosed my condition, and there is no Arab research on this subject. He found it when I searched in English and listened to many videos... I suffer a lot from this disease, there is no one here He understands how I feel

@@nonasosa4918 I'm so sorry you're suffering. I too have been suffering for 20 years. I am also a sever case. I used to be in the hospital at least once a month. I was sick every day. Find a doctor who will prescribe you Topirimate 150mg. That medicine changed my life. It gave me my life back. I never thought I would be as healthy as I am now. I started it in September of 2023 and I haven't had an episode since. I haven't been able to say that for 20 years. I really hope you find relief. I am making it my mission to try and help as many people as I can.

Hi, I believe I have this too, based on my own research and the 6-7 nausea attacks I’ve had in the last 3 years. Going to see a gastro to rule out other causes first, though I’m expecting them to diagnose me with this. Is there any hope? Anything you’ve done that you found prevents or lessens episodes? Thanks..

Thank you for not bringing Marijuana into the equation. My fiancée has this and every time she gets sick, she trys smoking pot first. It works sometimes, sometimes it doesn't, but every time we take her to the hospital they claim it is because she smokes pot and the doctor does not take it seriously. She has been to the hospital for it more that 30 times since I have known her. We tried NOT telling the doctors about her smoking Marijuana and they just do a urinalysis, so when she tests positive for Marijuana, instantly the doctors attitudes change and they blame it on the pot. Every time... I personally am getting cyclic vomiting syndrom from the stress of the doctors assumtions instead of actually trying to help her. (Bad joke, but kind of serious at the same time.)

They did the same thing to my husband. He had esophageal cancer surgery that was botched (they broke a rib & punctured a long) with a staple that was left behind. He puked every morning and every meal for 5 years. They found & removed the staple on his last scan and took him off his ulcer meds the same day. Within a few months he became gravely ill and needed to be hospitalized. He had sepsis from bleeding ulcers. They put him back on his medication for ulcers and said he would be on it for the rest of his life. He was doing better until the VA ordered a stress test and administered radioactive dye during a procedure. Within 48 hrs he had a severe reaction and was brought to a hospital with uncontrolled vomiting. They didn't find anything wrong so they released him within 4 hrs. The next morning he was brought back to the hospital where he was admitted with pneumonia and was told he was borderline septic again. The dr tried to blame it on marijuana, not the staple that had been left behind or the radioactive dye. Either these doctors are clueless imbeciles or they refuse to admit the truth. It's unreal what he and I have gone thru.

I have had this disorder my entire life, I'm now 53... It had taken 51 and a half years to get a diagnosis because most dr stop looking once they find pot in your system... I try to tell them " it's not the pot" and they insist it is, so I then say " I guess my parents must have been blowing me bong hoots in my crib or hot boxing me at birth, because I have had this MY ENTIRE LIFE!! " My partner of 17 years got so frustrated with the Canadian medical system he video taped a couple of my episodes, sent it to a mystery diagnosis website where dr from around the world examine the video, talk to the patient and give a diagnosis based on what they see,...( You still need confirmation by your own dr) As soon as my video was played, five minutes in the dr from India KNEW INSTANTLY what was wrong with me after asking me and my partner a few questions...it seems so easy, for him where 30 visits a year to the hospital, in several different provinces, even our largest hospital nor the PhD students from the graduating class for medicine knew what it was, ( I was a case study ) yet this dr halfway across the world KNEW INSTANTLY???!! When I present at any Canadian hospital, I get the same b.s.... Left without any help, no medicine and often no iv line, belittled and berated by every nurse or nurses assistant that comes within ear shot of me...I am so done with this treatment...it should be a human rights issue he way we are treated or not treated by hospital staff who think they know better than my specialist.. We are the unseen...there is no visible markers which show our illness beyond its symptoms... We suffer in silence because we often do not have anyone to fight for us during these moments when we can't fight for ourselves...and doctors and nurses are so very quick to judgement... If I had a nickle for everytime some uneducated healthcare professional told me to stop smoking pot and it will go away, or told me it's CHS a pot smokers disorder, I would be filthy rich today...😢

Thank u!!! Let me tell u if ur force ur fiancee to continue smoking it will stop the epsiode I use to think when I'd smoke a bowl or its not stopping the episode then something told me keep smoking. My sons CVS was finally SOLVED! 🙏 It’s completely healed now. It was not a stomach disorder like his gastroenterologist thought. Instead, by a fluke, at a new ER, they ran more tests and after imaging his kidneys they found a polyp in his ureter (the tube leading from his kidney to his bladder) that would occasionally block the flow of urine, where it would build up in his kidney and cause excruciating stomach pain (really it was kidney pain that he felt in his stomach) and vomiting. The polyp was removed and he has never had a single episode now in years! I know this may not solve everyone’s CVS, but I hope it will point some of you toward other potential downstream organs, not just the gastro region.

Both me and my sister were diagnosed with CVS when we were very young. Of the times that I can remember in my childhood, most frequently my episodes were triggered by one of the following -going too long without food/water -overheating -pain (large scrapes/headaches/pulled muscles or growth pains) -exhaustion -long periods of stress or severe stress. My mother has medical experience so that helped a lot with knowing her way around medication and being able to manage symptoms well enough to avoid being in the hospital more often. Both my sister and I would end up having to go to the hospital for fluids when we had long episodes, iv medicine and fluids gave the digestive system a break and would effectively "reset" the body. A pattern I picked up on is headaches preluding a severe episode, and even now that I'm older tends to stay consistent. As I got older hospital and vomiting episodes have gotten less frequent, although severe nausea still pops up every so often and will leave me stuck in bed until it lets up. Aside from anti-nausea medicine, sleep is the most consistently helpful to snap out of episodes. Although it can be hard to sleep while in pain and nauseous, these episodes are extremely strenuous on the body and often I'll end up tiring myself out before I have to go to the hospital now. It's an extremely difficult condition to manage, being a chronic condition with no cause found yet and no treatment other than medicines to lessen symptoms. I hope that despite the struggles everyone with CVS is able to live happy, fulfilling lives. ❤

In the hospital now with this hopefully getting out today. 2nd time for me in 2 years hospital both times, absolutely brutal, I literally spent 6 days wishing I would just pass out. Every minute feels like an hour, no source of sight or sound does anything but increase the nausea so nothing to pass the time other than misery. Hot showers are a temporary fix for me but my hot water heater only holds about 45 minutes worth and I was wanting hours. The hospital shower doesn't get very hot and the heads are worthless so that was no help. Dilaudid was the best med for comfort and sleep, then lorazepam and zofran. I'm so sorry if you are also dealing with this, it is unbearable.

I'm 28, and still have this. My most recent episode lasted 16 days, 16 days of constant vomiting. Day 13 I had to go to ER to get an IV bag because I was so dehydrated. The doc told me, I looked like an old person who was about to die. Unfortunately I passed it to my oldest daughter, and now with the covid Era, she gets throws up at school and won't let her come back for 24hrs, sometimes 48hrs. My father had severe migraines, which made me 97% genetically predisposed to acquire CVS. Average person pukes 3 times a year. My daughter and I puke 3 times a week, atleast. Sometimes more.

I suffer from CVS. I have three episodes a years usually. I also have Complex Regional Pain Syndrome and a host of other issues. This disease for me consumes me like something I have never had anything like before. My episodes last a month+ in length. I vomit more than 300 times each time. Something neurologically needs to be done so those of us who suffer can find better treatments than Triptans and sublingual Zofran. I am one of those patients who is pretty much incapacitated when they have an episode - I can't do anything and my episodes are very random but start at the same time on the same day of the week (early Saturday mornings) each time around the very end of the month or the beginning of the month. I have also been diagnosed with Abdominal Migraines, also. I'm glad CVS is becoming more mainstream so awareness is spreading more rapidly. I have been hospitalized many times, to the ER hundreds of times, and to my PCP even more than that. My hat goes off to all of my fellow warriors!

This is a poem i wrote about my cbs i am 29 years and have suffered from this for about 8 or 9 yrs. Sinking pain in my stomach, nauseous my dear friend, oh it's just a cyclic vomiting yes it always wins, the pain that It caused me no one will ever know, Not drug abuse or getting abused daily, have I felt this pain once before They call it awake coma that's what they say it is, but can coma cause this much pain that u just wish u were dead, I must be dreaming cuz there's no way this could be real, even when everything's going right, cyclic vomiting swallows me whole still, I had a friend named Phil who said what do you wish for your CVS, I said I wish it kills me, that's if I had one wish, some days they say to me you look okay! could it really be that bad? I said have you ever felt like you're dying in every day you ever had, don't ever advocate for yourself too much I've learned and play your cards right, so ur doctor will give you your prescriptions so you can sleep through the night, something that makes me feel not so alone as I know theres children suffering too and I picture their sad moms watching them, knowing there's nothing they cand do it makes me feel less alone but it breaks my heart just as much when will CVS give us a break I just want peace to touch, I just want to be able to breathe again and get through more than a week, without being debilitated from this sickness and feeling so damn weak, I think back to the good old days when I was at my Peak now I look into the mirror why and how did I get so meak it's just cyclic vomiting my friend, a shadow of my former self but I'll continue to hide my pain from the world till they actually care about my health. Ik kinda cringey but writing about this disorder makes me feel better.

I've had three episodes of symptoms similar to those described in this video, though I'm not sure if they result from this specific illness. The first episode was in November 2021, second June 2023 and third August 2023. All were characterised with a persistent feeling of nausea leading to retching reflexes that continue for many hours. On the first occasion my doctor prescribed prochlorperazine maleate 3mg buccal tablets to be taken oromucosally, i.e. by placing the tablet between the upper gum and lip. These tablets stop the nausea after about 40 minutes, although it usually takes two tablets, the second taken a few hours after the first, to fully quash the feeling of nausea and bring the illness to an end, but in the June 2023 episode only one tablet was needed. The tablets make you feel very drowsy. On all three occasions I was left feeling very weak and lethargic for days following the illness, with an aching diaphragm and stomach muscles due to all the retching involved. I've no idea of the cause of this illness, but these prochlorperazine maleate tablets work for me.

It's actually not as weird as you might think; consider the effects a hot shower/bath has on the circulatory system, including that of the brain: "For people who experience a lot of muscle stiffness or tension, hot showers are great because it helps relax tight muscles which will sooth discomfort. Hot showers can benefit anyone! The steam from hot showers not only helps to loosen and clear out oils and dirt within the pores of your face, but it also helps relax and open up your nasal passages to relieve nasal congestion. Hot showers can even help reduce stress and anxiety because the heat can stimulate the brain’s release of a hormone called oxytocin, which is known to be correlated to anti-stress effects, or relaxation."

I know it hasn't been studied enough, but does anyone know if this is possibly hereditary? My step daughter was diagnosed with CVS a little over a year ago and recently my 8 year old has been exhibiting the same symptoms. Headache the day before then extreme anxiety and panic attacks followed by retching and vomiting. She will do this for a couple of days then slowly get better. She was diagnosed with separation anxiety this year and I do notice her vomiting episodes are brought on when her anxiety reaches a tipping point. She's starting therapy soon, but I think this needs to be addressed before that since what I thought was one isolated incident has turned into three.

I accepted my sickness as a child after doctors didn’t know. It became a part of my life and i just sorta ‘took it easy’ with everything. My 8 year old told me she experiences symptoms that i know exactly how she feels. Im devastated rn. Depression is hereditary and some people think that could be part of the link.

Pretty much what every doctor zeros in on, if they even hear you tried pot to help with the nausea. I personally believe the two are separate symptoms and not really related.

OMG😲 Literally to the very T..this whole video from start to end is what I have been living my whole life with. I always that it was because I have not had a gallbladder since 2008. But it gets so bad I get immediately sick & week & with the worst migraine that is absolutely debilitating..but it clicked that if you make myself vomiting all of the dark thick yellow bile within a hour I am oretty muvh 100%. I've sent sent many doctors & never was this mentioned. Then again I don't believe I was taken seriously tbh 🤔😔

I do not have migraines or any pain. After eating, I vomit after a few minutes, and sometimes this vomiting becomes severe. I also feel heaviness in my stomach and lack of appetite. I have been living with these symptoms for the past 5 years. My life has become very stressful because of this, and I am very worried. I have seen many doctors and have taken treatment, especially from gastroenterologists, but I have only received temporary relief, and the problem recurs after some time, even if it gets better for a while. I have undergone many tests such as endoscopy, liver function tests, blood tests, and all, but most of the reports came back normal. The doctors diagnosed me with conditions like gastritis and functional dyspepsia and when I asked the doctor, they said it's not a big problem, but these vomiting episodes have made my life hell. I am very worried. Is it possible that CVS could be confused with another disease like functional dyspepsia or gastritis? Please help me...

Sound a lot like stomach flu.

Trust me, it's worse. Have you ever felt nausea in your very SKIN? They mention the frequency of vomiting in this video, but that frequency ( at the same 11/10 nausea level) can be over many days. My first hospitalized episode, I was puking 6 times an hour and got maybe 3-4 hours of broken sleep a night. I could not keep down any food. Literally none. This went on at the same intensity for 10 days. It only ended after I had an endoscopy in the hospital. The nausea was so bad, and my nervous system so keyed up, that I was fully conscious and aware during the procedure- even though they maxed out the sedation dose. CVS nausea is worse than chemo nausea. There are some supportive meds, but if the episode is in full swing by the time you go to the hospital, they are much less effective. CVS is to the stomach flu as a stab wound is to a paper cut.

@@18thcenturyfan I couldn't have said that better! You're not exaggerating! CVS compared to the stomach flu IS like a stab wound (very large knife or gun shot wound) compared to a paper cut! There's no comparison CVS is a whole other level!! Unimaginable pain!! It's like your stomach is having seizures, it's crazy painful!!

While it may seem similar, it's not really the symptoms itself but the severity of them, bad episodes for me could get as bad as vomiting every 3-5 minutes and could last for hours before having to go to the hospital or falling asleep from exhaustion. These bad episodes had certain triggers that would make them more likely like lack of sleep, overheating, or severe stress. When I was younger bad episodes could happen a few weeks apart or a few months if I was lucky. Less severe episodes would happen every few days and would range from severe nausea to vomiting a few times.

@SuperBakaotaku IDK if I would say it's worse than chemo sickness. I would say they are equal just for the fact that every body handles both sicknesses in different ways. Assuming you've had chemo..? I'm guessing you handled it fairly well compared to others.? I only got sick to the point I was vomiting for a few days, but I still felt sick. At the Florida Cancer Specialist and Research Institute I witnessed several young adults as well as old adults pretty much with CVS from the chemo. I am lucky enough not to have CVS myself, but my fiancée has it and I personally witness it about 3-8 times a year. Each lasting about a week to 2 weeks long. They are equally similar.
