Getting inspired by the unbelievable sounds of the Nord Drum 3P synthesizer… www.eugenioven... www.eugenioven... www.eugenioven... www.confidentd... www.confidentd...
Hey Mr. Nord, did you hear that? :) Thanks Stuart, your words are really appreciated. I just had fun playing what those sounds inspired me to improvise. And yes, these are all presets, I didn't program any of these sounds. A must have instrument for creative drummers...
How do you get around no hi hat (you DO do it!). I'm a sax player, also piano , bass & guitar), and want a drum multi-pad to complete the "band"). This gizmo HAS THE SOUNDS - like Pianoteq, it ain't triggering samples, it's modeling, which I think is the way to go. But I'm a JAZZ cat, and hi hat is essential. Roland Octopad is the competition for my dollar. Your playing Rocks! Thanks...
@@EugenioVentimiglia Thank you for your quick response! I just watched your demo on the Alesis Strikepad, so that's in the running as well. It has lots of cool features that the Nord does not have. Being not a drummer, I want a multi-pad to play a groove (or two, for A-A-B-A form Jazz standards), and loop them. But I don't see where the Alesis has THAT looping capability (i.e., play two grooves in sequence, like on "I'll remember April" Clifford Brown / Max Roach / Sonny Rollins, where the "A" is calypso and the "B" is a straight ahead Jazz groove, also birthday boy Rollins' "St. Thomas"). So, a separate looper might be needed anyway, even with the Alesis? Do you know if the Alesis can do that? I noticed you demonstrated all the cool Alesis features, but you PLAYED the Nord..... Thanks you...
@@JeffreySaxophoneTallNewton As much as I would love to be helpful, it wasn’t me doing the Alesis demo ;) Yes, probably the Alesis Multipad is what you are looking for. Austin Burcham great review should help you figure that out. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-P84VLLuY--Q.html Thanks!
@@EugenioVentimiglia Oops! I thought that was you, too! Maybe it's just the effects settings, but the Nord sounds more realistic and soulful to me. Then again, I like Pianoteq, which also uses modeled sounds. I have loopers, so the convenience of a built in looper isn't all that much, especially if it cannot do sequential loops, for A-A-B-A form Jazz tunes. And the Nord is half the weight. I have sax, piano, guitar and bass, and to do this properly, I have to bring all of them, so every pound is important! Anyway, your time and feel are excellent, and that comes out on the Nord. I've not seen a comprable demo for the competitors.
It's about making music. There is no 'right' way: you can do it with 4 limbs, 10 fingers, one note, a million notes. Whatever works for you is perfect, as long as what you do allows you to express what you have to say.
Thanks for your comment! I haven't used this feature, but it seems like it's available. Here is what the manual says on page 12: "CC -Control Change can be set to off (of), send only (s), receive only (r) and to both send and receive (sr). set this to receive if you want to change parameters on the Nord drum 3P from a MIDI controller or a sequencer." Of course pitch is one of the parameters you can change. Here is the entire manual if you like to check it out: www.nordkeyboards.com/sites/default/files/files/downloads/manuals/nord-drum-3p/Nord%20Drum%203P%20English%20User%20Manual%20v1.x%20Edition%20C.pdf
Eugenio Ventimiglia Wellthatsgreat because it means a percussionist can play both drums and baseline/lead without having to dedicate multiple pads to a tuned percussion.
Love it! Do u have any recommendations for a good stand for the 3p, to mount directly to the bottom side, not to pinch it with like a snarestand? I really need one that lets me adjust height and tilt, but I dont know which one has the suiting screwholes?!?
Thanks Manuel! The Nord Drum 3P comes with a mounting plate, you don’t need any additional screws. The mounting rod is about 2 centimeters in diameter (a bit less than one inch). So you can use your favorite stand, as long as you combine it with a multi clamp mount holder with adjustable brackets. Like the Gibraltar SC-UGC Multi Clamp Universal or the Roland Apc 33.
@@trackerbuckmann1627 If you want to add a pedal to your setup you need to buy all the related gear separately. The tools I mentioned above don't include a kick attachment.
@@EugenioVentimiglia I’ve been trying to find a way to mount the Nord Drum 3P to a mic stand like an Atlas Sound MS20E so that the drum machine doesn’t actually take up as much floor space. It doesn’t look like either of the brackets you mention would work. Ever tried anything like this?
Awesome this video shows the real capability of the Nord Drum 3P unit. If you are willing to create new sounds or tweek the existing ones the possibilities are endless I guess. By the way great drumming skills appreciate your presentation.

Hi, I didn't have a chance to play the Nord Drum 2, but the 3p comes with more than 200 preset banks, and thousands of sounds that you can twist as you like. It takes a bit of effort to learn how to use it fully, but when you do this instrument gives you infinite possibilities.

Great demo! We have one on store, this machine sells itself. Once played this is a must have, truly a wonderful drum synth. For me this probably is the most fun synth money can buy atm.
Yeah I'm trying to decide for a live kit which to use between the Roland spd sx and octapad, but the charm of the Nord 3p keeps me coming back to it! Thoughts? Does it have some regular sounding drum kits in the Nord that sound good too? Thanks.
Awesome stuff. Nord 3P is like an SPD-30 with a synth built in. Out of interest what kick trigger and pedal were you using? I find my Roland KT-10 is irritatingly bouncy in use
I've heard issues with the Reverb hissing on these is common. From what I've read online it seems like the issue isn't on every single one, perhaps a faulty production batch. Dus you experience issues with hissing or other technicalities?
Yes the reverb generates some hiss on my device (bought in 2017, I’m not aware of any updates to the sound engine), but I wouldn't say it’s noisy. Of course it depends on what you need to do. If you are recording a track with low dynamic levels, that could likely become an issue
Best demo of this device I have seen! Really shows different musical moods one can achieve (and not just "cool sounds")! Thanks. One question: when you connect the pedal, is that an additional sound to the six that you can use at any one time on the pad, or is it just an "additional limb" to hit one of those six?
Thank you so much for your comment! When you connect a pedal you simply get the same sound from both sources, the pedal and one of the six pads on the synthesizer (the one assigned to the bass drum sound).
hi great demo! Question: do you lose a pad when you caonnect a pedal? I mean when the pedal is connected does it trigger a pad sound or does it trigger an extra sound?
Thanks! When you connect a pedal you simply get the same sound from both sources, the pedal and one of the six pads on the synthesizer (the one assigned to the bass drum sound). I'm not aware of the possibility of triggering an extra sound.
Hi, thanks for your comment. Yes I’ve used a snare drum stand, and it works, although it’s not the ideal way to hold it. Many companies produce specific electronics mounting stands that can be used with the Nord Drum 3p.
