When I read every article telling me that the electro is “best for electric piano and organ players” I thought I’d have to get a Stage, but after watching this I realize I don’t have to break my bank to get quality piano and mellotron sounds.

Mark Landes thats true but thats not a problem. Just buy a keybord/synth that you can put on top of your electro 5. So that you dont need to switch the electro, use two keyboards.. getting a different synth or keyboards is the better idea and youll have more selection of sounds.. and old motif rack or jv-1080 rack modules will work as well. If you want to carry racks.

It's definitely something many producers and musicians would love as it would allow for far more creative sounds during playing. The thing is, it's a tough feature to implement if you don't want the devices to become bigger. It's already packed with mechanics for key-weighting, internal speakers and wiring+pcb boards for the internal system. Putting effort into a stand-alone system that can run VST's would require quite an overhaul in the current builds. (And I'm not even talking about pricing yet). Besides that, you'd have to think about where the device will end up. I like slim models cause I can fit them into my desk-drawer but there'd be no need for putting a device like that there since I could just connect any line-outs to my computer and run it into a DAW for VST usage. Getting it to run samplers like Kontakt or synths like Serum would be the main reason to implement this, and even then, you could just use MIDI-output into a laptop with a DAW. It is possible, of course, and companies will have to look into it sooner or later. Since the patches are getting so good, it's becoming harder and harder to differentiate high-end models. I'll give it around 5-7 years or so until we get the first devices that can do this. For the time being, I'd recommend using it on Laptop or PC with DAW for this.

Is the control/expression pedal able to manipulate and adjust the depth (in other words, changing the knob rate) of the effects?

There's no Electro 5 HA. There's the Electro 5 HP, which uses a different action (the Hammer Action Portable) which is lighter, weight-wise, than the action Nord uses for its 88-key keyboards.

Hi I am also an electro 5 owner and have run into the same problem. I am currently working on a pitch bend effect box that bends the direct signal from the keyboard. Similar to the way guitar effect pedals work. I'll let you know if I have any luck!

Rob WilkoPiano - hey Rob! I had the electro 5D and loved it, but couldn’t get a simple MIDI/send transpose to work, so had to sell it. It couldn’t send transpose to my other keyboard..... Do you know if they have fixed this for the Electro 6D HD?
