I have never seen or heard a hardanger fiddle, how very interesting. The short bow, the eight strings, the sawing rhythm, how soft it is. The key is something unique as well, not a normal violin tuning I think. What a fascinating ensemble of global instruments, and the bodhran, how lovely.

This instrument is called "Shurangiz" in Persian. A descendant of Tanbur but not Tanbur.🙏

Unreal, never heard hardanger fiddle but Benedicte's style is reminiscent of Cretan of Istanbul lyra in parts, a medieval sound

Remarkably, the tempo with which the violin player taps her foot seems often completely out of sync. Nevertheless her playing is spot on.

Superbly played and sung. I noticed Mr. Tabassian playing his custom-made 5-string shourangiz here, and I love the mellow, soulful and warm sound of the instrument. The singing touches me deeply, too. Thank you for sharing.

This performance builds up somewhat slowly but is worth the wait. This is my first time listening to this group, but it also has a (pardon the oversimplified statement) unique artistic expression. "Nordic Lights", Middle Eastern (and Indian?) influence, and was that French I heard sung in the beginning? Intriguing!
