I figured I would add something. When you get a store card that isn't a Visa or MasterCard it goes on your credit profile as a charge card/charge account and it does help with your credit mix. My Dicks Sporting Goods and Amazon Prime Store Card are "charge accounts" and my Bob's Discount Furniture card is I believe titled charge card. Its a very small bit to your credit mix but I think its helped having both types of cards. I suppose you did kind of mention it with the Chase rule.

Nordstrom is good about credit increases which is good for total available credit.

Ugh I got sucker wed into the visa card but she said that’s the highest one and they typically just give out the store credit card. It didn’t seem like I had a choice between both. Sadness. I didn’t get the 40 dollars notes right away. Do you suggest I use my discover for gas etc and the visa nordies card purchases just in the store?

great review! I have this card and didn't even know about the rewards. I like having a mix of traditional cc's & store cards, its easier for me to track my wife's spending on store cards. For example I have store cards for: Nordstrom NY&C Lane Bryant Zales Gordon's Best Buy (this is for me) Rooms to go

That's my card, I opted for the store card and have not regretted it and your so right about the one year to redeem your notes. Nordstrom is the only worthwhile store card I know of

Tons of ways to “hack” other cards with gift cards and get a better return. I won’t be wasting my time with the Nordy card just for that extra 1% that I could get another way.

Store credit cards definitely do count towards Chase 5 24 rule. I was told this by 2 different chase customer service reps. You may want to correct that so people aren't wasting hard inquiries with Chase.

So Chase keep on coming up with more restrictions, it's gonna make a lot of people not even bother trying to get them if they don't have any Chase cards already.

Answered this on another comment, but my short reply is that a store card that is not visa, mc or amex or discover should not count toward 5/24, but if you are getting a lot of credit cards, Chase can still reject you regardless of whether you are technically under 5/24 or not. My opinion is that no one should feel 100% sure about how 5/24 or any other formula works because any card company can make any exception they want to, whenever they want to. If someone wants the Nordstrom store card because they shop at Nordstrom often, I think it would be a shame if they rejected it just because Chase may or may not think it is OK.

PSA. Store cards DO count towards Chase’s 5/24 rule. Also, I wouldn’t waste my time with this card as you can get just about the same percentage back using much better cards that doesn’t lock you into Nordstrom’s Reward system. A Citi Double Cash would be okay and I’d even argue that you’d do better using the Chase Amazon Visa and get 3% (or 5% if you’re a prime member) cash back by buying Nordstrom gift cards straight from Amazon and they have physical and digital versions of the Nordstrom gift card. If you have the Amex Gold then you could earn 4x MR points by buying your Nordstrom gift cards at the grocery store. So many options that are much better than the Nordstrom store card or the Nordstrom Visa card version.

I do not know that you are correct here. A credit card that can only be used at a single retail chain should not count toward 5/24. if it is a visa, mc, or amex from that chain, then it definitely will count. My opinion is that people often think it counts because Chase could still reject you if you are at 4/24 plus a store-only card, just because Chase can still decide you are getting too many cards and reject you, even if you are technically under 5/24. the 5/24 drives me a little crazy because people seem to believe that there is some guarantee of approval or disapproval based on certain numbers and it is not that simple.

ProudMoney - Credit Card Reviews & Credit Building Retail cards didn’t use to be included in 5/24. During this past November when Chase moved to add the rest of their co-branded cards (i.e. AARP, Disney, Aer Lingus, British Airways, etc) to 5/24, they also started lumping store cards. Check out AskSebby, Doctor of Credit, The Points Guy, and most other blogs in this segment and you’ll have the confirmation you need.

I have that card! It is okay but the mobile app is a bit shaky. It allows you to pick your own categories for points. 3%, 2% and 1%. I use it for 3% back on my utility bills.💳

When I applied it automatically gave me the option to apply, and it’s the luck of the draw but o did get the visa. I didn’t have an option this was just a few weeks ago.. FYI to the newbies

@@vyceqq2144 no proof but my credit or identity has never been compromised. My son who lost his id a few years ago they asked for his id but not income verification. As long as you keep your income below 100k they don’t usually ask

Just went into Nordstrom rack yesterday found a cute pair of shoes went to the counter. I had my American Express in my hand ready to pay and I was asked if I wanted to apply for the Nordstrom credit card… I should’ve said no, but I said sure!😊 I was asked for license or ID email home address, phone number annual income, which was inserted into the little machine by me and in a few seconds voilà I was approved and was never asked if I wanted the Visa platinum or the store card, I was surprised that I was only issued $3000 and it was the Nordstrom Visa and I was awarded $40 off of my purchase same day.

Yes. For anyone else wanting to know. They encourage you of course. When I received mine I used it immediately online to take advantage of the 100 dollar bonus notes which they gave me right after I made the purchase, so the purchase I made (about 70 dollars) was practically reimbursed

I dont think any retail store cards are worth burning a 5 24 slot. I have 3 and I regret them all..only store credit card I would even consider now is the Target Red Card for the 5 percent back.

The only store card worth having to me is either a Lowe’s or Home Depot card. I have and love Lowe’s because they offer long term financing on things that one doesn’t always want to drop a lot of cash on at a given time. The Lowe’s or Home Depot card can be a life saver if a hot water tank dies, furnace or A/C, stove, refrigerator, washer or dryer die without much notice. Nice to be able to enhance or repair your home at 12 or 24 months at a time...interest free.

@@2808Heavy I thought that store card's with a visa, Amex or Master Card logo is the only one's that count and the ones that can only be used in store didn't count, I'm guessing the rules got change again.

I applied this week and got approved automatically for 700$, it didn’t give me a option to chose what card so I’m wondering which I got approved for, I did get my 60$ notes for making a purchase same day of approval 🥳
