After that performance the parade would have been over for me. Nice clear sound coming from the band. Awesome job to all the men and women of this great band.
That was the best hbcu performance in a parade of any kind bar none. Su and jsu please don't start !! That was just awesome !!!! Sound was great. Went from show band to core style......did y'all see those straight lines and high steps ?!!!! Just awesome!!! Behold the green and gold. And I went to morehouse. Lol.
That is how a band should sound, no blaring, you could hear the melody, woodwinds, drums were not drowning out every body else, instruments were not sharp or flat, they played on unison, etc!!!! Just outstanding!!!!💙💛🥰💯💛
I've never seen this band or even heard of the school, but was at the parade and wanted to say they far and away blew out the other bands with their sound. It was fantastic!! Those I was sitting near all commented on the phenomenal sound. Way to go!
Now you've witnessed what I have known for years about this band...I had the opportunity to grow up living right down the street from the campus. Amazing sounds!!!💚💛💚
The Rose Bowl has selected one HBCU Band every year for the last 5 or 6 years and NSU to me has clearly outshined them all and has set a very high standard for the future. From the unique uniforms to the awesome sound and dance steps and the beautiful young ladies of the dance team they made feel very proud as a person of color to have such an excellent performance on a national stage like that!!!

As an alumna of the magnificent and legendary school, the NSU Spartan Marching Legion outdid themselves in the Rose Bowl Parade. I am so proud that my cousin Jalen was there to have that awesome experience! Thank you Marching Legion for showing the world what you can get at an HBCU! Safe travels back home, 2023 is off to a great start!
NSU, this is awesome entertainment, you left that crowd a very memorable experience. I’ve seen NSU many times, and not once have I seen them perform in anyway below top level. Great job Spartans… Aggie Pride!

This Band So underrated. They play music, not blow noise. Fantastic. Been following them for years. Keep playing music. It's not just a Grove. Music enlightened your mind with the twist and turns. Great arrangements. Love the percussion section. Balanced and sounds like a set with the music. I am not a Spartan Legion but, I would have had I known about them. Director and staff. Awesome job. NSU.
I literally shed a tear after watching this. I have been following NSU since my youth and graduated from there in 2007. This last 3 days has been epic for the band. Everything they have done is world class from the Bandfest, to Disney to the parade. For so many years this band has been Hampton Roads own, today the world saw the magic this program makes! Love to all of the NSU alum!
Tony you are so right. As I watched the various videos; I too teared up. I'm always a proud Spartan.; but this...this right here was the epitome of all their hard work. As always we will always BEHOLD the Green and Gold.

I'm BCU all day and I've said many times before this band is my second favorite. NSU don't get the recognition they richly deserve. I'm extremly proud of each and every member as well as the bands leadership. Y'all are amazing!!
This band is more than just good. They're AWSOME. Of all the HBCU Band shows that I have seen, this is by far the best exhibition of music and showmanship that I have witnessed. Hats off to NSU: The Green AND GOLDD...!!

Great job on filming this, we had nothing as far as long coverage back here in Norfolk. The host sounded very impressed and grateful to have them show up and do such a great job. They just put the World on Notice

As a former member of the Million Dollar Funk Squad, which is the percussion section of the Marching Spartan Legion, I actually shed a few years watching this. It warmed my heart and was a great way to start my morning watching my favorite band on Earth do their thing. I marched back in the 90's and the Rose Bowl is one of the biggest parades in the States, it's an honor and a privilege to be invited to this Bowl and WE'RE THERE showing the nation how a marching band is supposed to perform. lol it was planned. They had a country singer singing on a float behind them so they told them to do a show while the float was stationary. I'm glad she was there.
Nope there was a medical emergency along the parade route ahead of them. It just so happens that NSU was in a spot for television. If you notice you see, in the foreground the white suitor talking to one of the directors, right before the drum majors marched to the side to turn the band towards the stands. The emergency held up the parade 30minutes. Great job on transition band.
@@staffonsmith2080 actually according to the Norfolk State University band director William Bethea the Rose Parade committee asked the band to perform at the grandstand so the band staff knew months in advance that they would be at the grandstand. There was someone who had a heart attack on one of the floats. They were told that during the medical emergency they had to fill more time by playing more music.
Wow NSU did an amazing job 😍😍🔥🔥🔥 this literally brings tear to my eyes because they’ve cam along way from trying to rebuild the band again and now look at them 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥 next year they’ll be a problem for sure!
Now this is a marching band but we always entertain. The precision , timing .EXCELLENT performance. Glad they had a chance to showcase what they do instead of stilted marching.
The only thing i was dissappointed in was that NSU didnt get a chance to Battle USC lol that would had been a battle of the ages, a Real Sparta vs Trojan battle (sorry VSU)
Did the best I could holding my arms above my head with a torn rotator cuff for 12 minutes, lol. It was another great performance by the Spartan Legion
It was spur of the moment and I couldn't ask the people to sit down so I had to hold the phone over my head for 12 minutes with a torn rotator cuff. Thank you for watching though, it was a great experience. It was also the only day it didn't rain while I was there so we were lucky to have a few dry hours.
