Just got these plans. The lack of detail that you mention, is very frustrating.

Hey Steve, found your channel just this weekend while looking for the good old Norm Abrams videos. You definitely beat me in years of woodworking although I am doing this now also for more than 45 years. Thank you for bringing the Mark II to my attention, because one of the next projects will be the Norm Abrams Adirondack chair (I bought his instruction books in the U.S. when I watched his New Yankee Workshop during my University days in the 90ies). I wasn't aware that he upgraded them in between. And BTW I share your sense of humor like in Pt. 2: "can't drill the pilot hole so I have to use brute force and ignorance"... Keep on doing great videos! Greetings from Germany Andreas

Hi Steve, great videos thanks. Especially liked your discussion of design modifications for comfort in the other 2 episodes. I didn't hear when you said what wood to choose, as cypress is not easily available in the UK. Looks like you might have used cedar, but I could not really tell. Any thoughts please?

Hi, glad you like them. Cypress is not a commercially available timber over here, unfortunately. These chairs are made from Redwood, a type of pine, usually sourced from Scandinavia or Russia. It comes in different grades according to the number and frequency of knots in the board. I usually buy Unsorted, which is the best grade, but sometimes Vths (Fifths) is good enough.

@@SteveMaskery Thanks, that's really helpful. I am considering using oak, as I happen to have some in my stash, but the only issue is that the rain can lead to black staining from the tannin.

Do you sell the templates?

It's on my todo list. The original plans are on Norm's site, but they will give you a very low, laid back chair. If you email me I'll see what I can do.
