Dyslexic? I never would have guessed if you had not shared that with us. Thanks for being open with that. This could be quite helpful with my students who have similar "other" abilities. You have a great RU-vid presence and a guest spot on an awesome television show. Having you as a successful person to show that something like dyslexia can't hold you back if you don't let it is a boon to our struggling youth/students. Bless you for being open and showing some of your work-arounds dealing with your other-ability.

Thank you for your kind words. Not only dyslexic but I had a speech impediment also. I worked hard in 6 years of Speech Therapy so anything can be achieved if you put your mind to it. Instead of letting it intimidate you, let it make you resolve to work even harder to overcome. Thank you for watching.

Holy crap!! I just finished shopping for the lumber to make two of these rockers from Menard's. I feel like I ran a 5K. 1x6 and 1x4 on completely opposite parts of their property, plus a flight of steps to boot. It cost me about $80/chair. Alright, enough complaining. Let's build these rockers!! I'm really going to need one by the time I finish. Ha!

Hi April. I only have a benchtop band saw. Not knowing whether or not it will cut out larger chair parts has been holding me back from tackling Adirondack chairs. Would it work or would I be better off just going with a jig saw? Thanks ahead of time. :)

Having made many Adirondack chairs there is one weakness in your design. Attaching the arms at the back as you do is fine. Over time as people sit on those arms, it will eventually break. Add a vertical support from the bottom leg to the arm to resolve that problem.
@squirlmy
@squirlmy 2 года назад
The solution for that is to scream "get the f$%* off my chairs you brats" loudly and liberally. Seriously, anyone sitting on the arms is really foolish and deserves whatever splinters they get. Of I suppose you can sit quietly in chair #1 with a shotgun and keep one eye out for children and idiots for chair #2, 3, 4, etc.😂🤣

Actually, "Adi-rock-dack" wouldn't be a bad name for it! Great design, April! I like 'constructing' those half-laps, too, especially given the strength of glue. Goes back to when I didn't have the right equipment to cut one from solid wood, but there's also the advantage of getting different grain in there strengthening each other against warping/twisting (even running in the same direction still has this advantage).

Can we buy it precut and rounded, so she can just assemble it for me? Although that takes the fun out of wood making…. How else would one get their wood cut like this without tools? Is there a list of what is needed? Renting these tools would cost much more than just buying a already complied rocker,,, :/ any advice??
