Norms great but Courtney definitely holds her own here. Can you imagine how hard this must have been for her? First of all she has to defend Carrot Top- she's probably aware of the total lack of chemistry on the set between leads. She kinda comes across cute and hot. That said, bad first choice for a film….but she had the ability to laugh WITH Norm here- so why are people attacking her here? Lighten up!
How people not like Norm, I will never understand. He will always be my favorite comic. Just naturally funny and a late night favorite. Just an awesome interviewee.
This is what Courtney Thorne Smith told Vanity Fair after Norm died: "Every once in a while, I’ll run into Conan and he’ll apologize, and I say, ‘That was one of my favorite moments of my life.’ Teased by Norm Macdonald? Are you kidding? I did The Tonight Show once, and Don Rickles made fun of my father, and my father never stopped talking about it. This is my version of that. "I told a story about my father telling a joke at my sister’s wedding, and then Don Rickles just went off on my father being crazy, and it was the high point of my father’s life. That’s how I felt when Norm teased me. It didn’t even occur to me that it could possibly be negative. I was beside myself. "I was there to promote Chairman of the Board. I was not thrilled about having to do it, so when Norm took over, I’m like, Oh, thank you, God and Norm Macdonald. It was a blessing. Look - had I thought that Chairman of the Board was my path to an Oscar, I might have been offended. I did not. So it was a joy to be teased about it. Because I didn’t know what I was going to say [on the show]. I was like, Good, Norm, you take over."
I've watched this clip a dozen times at least, and it always makes me laugh. I wish Norm was a guest on Conan's show every night. He can spin a laugh out of any situation.

It's impressive to see Norm Macdonald coming up with all these jokes so quickly and be completely ill with a fever at the same time. Thats talent right there.
I remembered this word for word after 13 years. It was something epic, like an unforgettable speech. And all these years later, this brief late night moment still makes me laugh so hard I tear up!!! @Mistwaters @burnt4 ... Exactly.
It helps that Courtney Thorne-Smith is just wonderful in this in every way. She understood Norm every bit of the way. The audience didn't always This is one of the greatest late night segments ever
It takes a while to get used to Norm's sense of humor and style of comedy. He's not "in your face" with jokes, it's very subtle. He sounds like he's going nowhere with a joke, and that is the joke! He's one of the wittiest comedians, and an absolute master at spontanious one-liners!:)
this is one of the funniest things ive ever seen norm in. i remember it seeing it only once when it aired a long time ago. that was great. thanks for posting it!

I have been watching this from time to time for 2 years and it is still funny. Norm absolutely destroys Courney Thorne-Smith and this interview in general.

I just cried laughing, it chased my dog out of the room. I never appreciated Norm until this segment. You could just smell the obvious joke coming... you don't see how it could be funny... and then it attacks you. My stomach hurt. This is so strange and unexpected. Wow.
