I have seen a few videos were people put the EV couch option on in the center of the instrument cluster and it help them get 24 to 26 mpg by watching the cluster and adjusting their driving to get better mileage, I haven’t tried it, but it seemed to work for them
@KevinExclamationPoint
@KevinExclamationPoint 2 года назад
I tried that early on but found myself looking more at that then the road, so for safety reasons I switched away from it. Perhaps I’ll give it another go for the sake of science! Thanks for the tip!

Touch the brake lightly make it go to electric mode then slowly get back on the gas . Makes it get the mileage up faster. Fuel has alot to do with it also. Less ethanol gets great mileage.

I have a 2023 platinum trim level powerboost. When i bought the truck new 6 months ago i was getting 23 mpg. I put a 2.5 inch leveling kit and 35 inch nittos on stock wheels and my mpg went down to 16.5 to 17 mpg. I mean i expected it to drop some but geez. It was a 6 to 6.5 mpg drop. Crazy but not even my biggest complaint. I baby it and have gotten my mpg back up to 18 but what blows my mind is the mpg on the interstate. Running 75 on the interatate i get 15 mpg if im lucky. Its absolutely backwards. Recently moved my daughter to college 6 hours away and pulled a 5x8 enclosed trailer with maybe 800 lbs in it and the truck only got 12.5 mpg. Sorry to ramble on but was curious if anyone else had same issue
@KevinExclamationPoint
@KevinExclamationPoint 6 месяцев назад
Hey, thanks for the comment. I never lifted the truck but imagine if you lifted it AND put 35’s on it that would be a normal drop in MPG to expect. Do you hand calculate your MPG? If you’re going off the trip computer I noticed it was always reading higher than what I actually got. I know larger tires can affect the odometer as well.
@hendersonhow2andreview17
@hendersonhow2andreview17 6 месяцев назад
@@KevinExclamationPoint I didnt lift it necessarily. I only leveled the front end. But yes I expected the mpg to drop some with the tires and leveling kit but not like it did. Every truck I've ever bought I take within a week or so and do a leveling kit and tires because stock are pitiful. I've never had one drop like this one did. Ridiculous the day and age we live in with technology that no one can put out a 150 size truck that gets 25 to 30 mpg. I take that back they could but wont. Even the people I talk to with stock tires and no leveling kit and they have to absolutely baby it to get 20 mpg. The most disheartening part is the mpg on the interstate where it should do it's best it's the worst. Have you notice the mpg is worse on interstate running 75? Or does yours not do that
@KevinExclamationPoint
@KevinExclamationPoint 6 месяцев назад
@@hendersonhow2andreview17 gotcha, yeah, the leveling obviously isn’t as drastic. In my experience, the Powerboost got better MPG in city driving due to the hybrid aspect. On the highway it’s just a ICE 3.5 Ecoboost as it barely if ever goes in to full electric mode.

Hahaha! There’s a video online of a goat named Kevin that’s pretty funny. I think it’s always funny to give a pet a name a person has, especially a common name such as Kevin. I wonder how much tech the Bronco and F150 share when it comes to drive modes and how they affect fuel consumption and shift points. I can’t imagine they’ll have reinvented the wheel to much there. I am just over a month and 600 miles in, so I may still need to be broken in, however my Powerboost does worse in my short trips to the store in eco than it does in normal. in normal I can get ~25mpg and in eco I will see ~18mpg.

I'm at 4200 miles now on my PowerBoost, all in Normal mode, and I've recorded all my fuel consumption over those miles. At 2800 miles the truck was indicating a +3% bias so I entered that AFE Bias into the truck's computer and since then, my indicated Average Fuel Economy has been within .1% of calculated mileage and the truck has averaged 21.6 mpg. That's not great but, considering it is a truck weighing almost 6000 lbs with big towing mirrors sticking out both sides of the vehicle and I'm using 87 octane fuel, I'm OK with that performance. I'm sure the PowerBost truck that Ford used to determine EPA fuel efficiency was a few hundred pounds lighter, wasn't pushing the wind mine is, and was probably running non-oxygenated premium fuel.
@KevinExclamationPoint
@KevinExclamationPoint 2 года назад
Thanks for sharing! This is pretty close to what I experienced and am at 5,000 miles now. It’s good to know someone else using 87 octane like me is getting similar numbers, although I don’t have the tow mirrors. I think you’re right about the EPA test using premium fuel. I plan to do a few tanks on premium soon to see if it makes a difference (once has prices drop a bit more). Thanks again for taking the time to comment.

Interstate is killing my mpg, regardless of normal or eco. 75mph is speed limit where I live. At that speed I only get about 18.5 mpg. At 60-65mph I get 23-26mpg. But there are very few roads I drive at this speed. In stop and go rush hour Traffic I can get 24mpg. In regular city driving 0-45mph I only get about 15-18mpg. On average I’m currently at 20.8mpg. 11K miles.

With my 21 eco-boost I get 18-21 on the Highway doing 78. But once I hit a headwind over 10 mph it goes to 18. I use 93 octane to achieve this and mostly on cruise (adaptive). I am sure that once there are some miles put on the truck you will start to see an improvement. When I started with it new I wasn’t impressed with the gas mileage at all. Btw I try and use the tier one gas as well. I know if I use 87 on the hwy with a headwind I was getting like 16 mpg.

Personally I've found that eco mode basically uses the fully electric driving features more often while driving. Vs normal mode seems to more only use it while braking and very steady speeds. I think because the battery is used less in normal for electric driving it stays charged more which means its used more for acceleration vs acceleration in eco mode where the battery can be depleted and its charging the battery while accelerating. So both modes actually help for fuel economy but eco seems to, for me at least, provide the best fuel economy all around, but normal mode maintains decent fuel economy with way better performance. Normal mode for me is usually about the same around 22 mpg and I'm still averaging 24 with eco mode. 14k miles atm.
@KevinExclamationPoint
@KevinExclamationPoint 2 года назад
You’re definitely trending much higher average MPG than me, but I definitely agree that Normal mode feels like it performs better. Eco mode doesn’t have the same feel when accelerating. Thanks very much for the detailed comment! I’d love to be able to say I was averaging 24 MPG at 11K!

Thanks for the video. I drive in eco mode most of the time, especially to and from work. I haven't done my own calculations but the truck calculates I get between 24 and 28 MPG to an from work everyday. The truck is calculating my average at 21.4, I assume, due to the short trips you mentioned in the video where the MPG can be as low as 11. Additionally I have only used premium fuel but considering going to 87 based on other peoples experience. I'm pretty happy with those numbers since my last truck, a 2019 Ram 1500, would average about 16 MPG. Thanks again for the video and I hope you reach 2000 sub!

I have watched several videos on fuel economy and was curious if you had tried straight in town and straight highway. I currently have a 21 KR and after 50k I am averaging around 20-21 per gal Highway (light to moderate headwind) and about 14- 16 around town. Going to be ordering another truck soon and wanted to see those to see if the overall upgrade cost is justified. It’s really hard right now with gas prices to not justify it but the pendulum will spring back the other way eventually.
@KevinExclamationPoint
@KevinExclamationPoint 2 года назад
With my job right now it’s always a mix of city and highway, but I plan to try an all highway MPG loop sometime soon. I get better than 16mpg around town usually. I think getting a new truck in addition to the gas prices wouldn’t really be worth it for you right now. The same 21 KR today would cost you several thousand more. Unless you can get an incredible trade in offer (which may or may not be possible), you’d still lose money. That’s just my opinion though. Thanks for the comment!

@@502troy5 so far I have already put 9k miles on the truck using super unleaded and only getting 19.3 mpg on the hwy and around 20 mpg in town. Unless I hit a headwind then it drops dramatically. Another reason that I may be getting les mpg is that the highways here in Tx speed limit 75 and I usually cruise at 78. I also carry about 500 pounds of tools and supplies for my work. My 21 non powerboost was getting 14 -16 around town and 18 - 19 on the Highway. Don’t see a significant change since I do mostly Highway travel but I do work in the truck so it is definitely saving on the idle time.

@stans1058
@stans1058 Год назад
All the modes only change the shift points on the transmission. Its really a pointless comparison. Once you are in your final cruising speed it makes no difference at all in MPG. If the engine was capable of reducing the number of cylinders firing that would produce a meaningful comparison.
@KevinExclamationPoint
@KevinExclamationPoint Год назад
It numbs the initial throttle response which makes a lead foot like me not burn as much gas from the line. So, at lower speeds it makes a difference in MPG.
@stans1058

Delay response, maybe? That can be fixed by installing medal monster from banks engineering. Look at the tac and where the shift points are coming dependent on the settings.
