So ole girl was just there to hate. Everything that came out of her mouth, even her body language was negative. This is not a story driven video, it's mostly artistic and choreography driven. There's symbolism in it as well, most obvious is the mirror scene--Normani is a gemini! She has many different versions of herself, hence so many various scenes (my interpretation). The music took me a few listens to get it, because it's very different from the sampled song I'm familiar with (One in a Million by Aaliyah). But it's such a dope track and I loved this reaction!

I didn't even know that was a sample of Aaliyah's until I saw it written in the comments. It's so different from the source I never would have guessed it on my own. But now I can hear just the gist of the sample in there. It's wonderful Normani and whoever else with her was able to get such an awesome beat out of it 💕! Not to mention the choreography, costumes, and sets were on point 😍😘❤!

It was so awkward to watch the reaction in the girl in this video try to hide her jealousy of Normani. I think this is a generational and cultural thing. Normani is all about the 90s-early 2000s. This video is all about the 90s-early 2000s. Choreography heavy. Heavy on visuals. Video doesn’t have to tell a story or follow the song lyrics Aaliyah, missy Elliott… The song is just about telling a dude to bring his A game… Plenty of people have said the video is better than the song. Even Normani said it doesn’t go as hard as she originally wanted. But. It’s still a good song. Enjoyable. It it comes on the radio or on the playlist, I’m not skipping it. No need to think too much about it though.

The reason yall dont understand the significance of this video and the details, the scene/set choices is because you dont understand the nods to other R&B artists she made. The beat itself is and ode to One In A Million by Aaliyah. The main outfit is a nod to Missy, the choreo has sprinkles of Ciara, Usher, Aaliyah, etc. Thats why yall are only appreciating it on this one note. This song is an ode to the 90s/early 2000s.

You all are missing the cultural influence. The beat is a sample from the late singer Aaliyah’s song called One in a Million, one of her most popular songs. The choreography and video is a nod to 90s R&B videos. Her double Normani scene with mirrors was a reference to her zodiac, Gemini and her owning up to if you show her what you can do, she can return the favor. The song and video is cohesive and you’d have to know our culture to appreciate it in full. Ol boy on the left had it right when he was vibing, his dance was on point. This production is a 10 for me. Glad to see you all react to this. Keep doing it. It will help you appreciate and learn about ppl who are different from you!
