I love the NORAD paint job on that RCAF F18

I worked in the Canadian NORAD (SAGE) when I was a teenager. Was the youngest person that worked in the buildings history. I was only a janitor. But it was the job that got me around and on the actual "Ops" floor and around the ATIS Tech (Jimmy for life) that made me decide to joined the Canadian Forces and become one myself. I also was working in the underground complex (what it's know as in North Bay and most of the Canadian military) during 9/11. That was the biggest reason I joined the CF. I'm proud to say I'm a "mushroom" and was a member of our nation's amazing military.

Thank You RADAR Michael for every contribution you have made. Do not worry, what you have posted, shows RESPECT and HONOR to anyone who has served their COUNTRY. I am from the US and CANADA / MEXICO (BTW, officially is the United Mexican States, HOW COOL IS THAT, UMS compared to US) have always been to me as BROTHERS. We are different countries, HOWEVER, RELATIVES!!! We might have differences, when someone interferes, WATCH OUT. Look at the video, US / CANADA have the same interest and we need to include MEXICO. Let's continue to be great together :-) BTW, great movie, Canadian Bacon: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-IWpThrDfQEI.html

@@Timon42 that's awesome. Finally met a fellow Jimmy on YT. I wanted to go to 42 as I felt it was a challenge I wanted ...but not oj boy is 8ACCS was more challenging at times lol. Once stayed up 48hrs straight ripping our MPN down to get the SSR slip ring out on a BTE in wainwright. No one had had one fail at that point. Those sliprings are NOT engineered to come out easy lol

@@radarmike6713 I understand. TCR had its challenges too. Slip rings in any Radar are never designed to be replaced easily. Lol. And my other “gripe” is that engineers never think about the guys who have to keep the damn thing running. They think we are all about the size of a 4 year old. Lol. Never been to 8ACCS but I hear it was a good go ... challenging but good.

Won't say when or where, but I got to hear and watch (via radio and radar scope) one of these intercepts as it was happening from a control tower (I'm a contract employee for the FAA and sometimes permitted to be in the control tower "cab"). The pilot, who was violating a TFR, was unresponsive when the fighters showed up (which I have to say was DAMN FAST!!). He was hailed over the radio like 5 times (with a headbutt maneuver or two) before finally responding and turning west. Needless to say, it was hair raising for all of us to hear the Air Force warn this pilot of the consequences. Thankfully it was resolved peacefully. Very cool to see! One question: Does anyone know what happens to pilots after this? Is there any kind of formal charges brought for, say a Presidential TFR?

It's strange for me to see a great country like the USA, with awesome military, advanced tech, trillions of USD invest every years. Some Americans have to paid a bill of 35000usd at the hospital for their covid, because of no healthcare. Is it really an issue to give a fraction of this budget for Americans healthcare?
@kristensorensen2219

Stay safe, healthy & avoid the $35k bill. No one should be without a special kind of insurance; major medical! Our nation needs to get this back on the market as a no fault type of mandatory insurance.
@jameslanning8405
@jameslanning8405 4 года назад
It's not the money going to healthcare that's the problem... The problem is, the high level of greed and corruption, in the various offices people have to depend on to get that healthcare. Healthcare isn't an "insurance," issue. It's the extreme cost in the hospitals, the doctor's offices, and other healthcare locations. America already has a system, that will assist those that cannot pay for healthcare out of pocket. But the cost is insanely high at all levels. If the sheer cost of healthcare cannot get under control, and the sky's the limit for anyone wanting to just gouge people for $$$, America's healthcare will continue to be one of the most expensive in the world! To find out why, go find a doctor on the golf course...

@@jameslanning8405 well I'm American and I don't pay Jack shit for my healthcare, I'm not bragging at all btw I'm just saying that there are some of us out here that get great service and that not all of us have the same issues. But I also don't agree with free healthcare which is very ironic for my situation because though I personally need the insurance I have I also don't agree with me not having to pay? The US has a lot better healthcare than most countries that don't have to pay BECAUSE our treatment is very very fast, efficient, very high quality and doctors are in turn paid better because we pay. I'm conflicted about my personal situation lol
@kristensorensen2219

@@shyryTsr2k It's a fact we share. I'm a caregiver full-time. I have no income and am a dependent so get expanded Medicaid. My mom is 88 and is Medicare covered. She gets dad's max Social Security as his widow. After Medicare deductions her net Social Security is less than her property taxes. Her home was paid off 30 years ago and she can deferr the property taxes. My brother- in-law is a 69 yr old Family Practice Doc who still works full-time. His home is heavily mortgaged so he can't retire. He earns a moderate salary for a physician maybe 150k. If I were a working freight pilot I could easily make 300k. Physicians are not the reason why our system is too expensive. But no one wants slow low tech care in hospital. We just can't stop spending too much for heroic care for the very old or other terminal patients. Thus one serious illness can bankrupt a 40 year old w/o a major medical policy that covers the $500,000 bill. No fault car insurance is mandatory in Oregon. Not major medical for everyone under 60. It is stupid!

@Streaml1neJMoose 4 года назад
Probably lack of resources. Currently Mexico has 3 Northrup F-5s in active service and 1 F5 trainer, everything else is light ground attack prop aircraft. Also most if not all threats to the continent come from further north or over the pole.
@shyryTsr2k
@shyryTsr2k 4 года назад
@@Streaml1neJMoose South America is a huge threat as well though because their economies and militaries are quite small/less funded at least compared to invading forces like Russia/China so they'd most likely be the first to feel the wrath since Mexico connects the Panama Canal to both North and South America if you look on a map and just in general
@ryebreadreturn1
@ryebreadreturn1 3 года назад
The specific threat NORAD was designed to counter was Soviet bombers coming over the north pole (shortest distance from their air bases) to strike the United States during the Cold War. Canada is in between so their role in defense of the Continent is obvious. Mexico was neither a likely target nor geographically positioned to assist with this threat. The southern border is a security risk in the sense that drug cartels or terrorists could fly planes over it with ill intent. However, that is a much smaller scale threat than what NORAD is designed to handle. In practice, intercepting one plane at a time is what NORAD deals with on a day to day basis, but it's not the reason it exists. The reason it exists is to counter huge military threats, and those are extremely unlikely to come from the south. Consider that the only potential adversaries even capable of launching a large-scale attack on the US are located in the northern hemisphere. Logistically, for Russia or China or North Korea to attack by air from the South would be extraordinarily more difficult than to attack from the North, East or West. In fact imo a large scale air attack from the south is simply not possible with their current or expected near-term military capabilities. All that said, of course Mexico could play a logical role in helping to defend the US against small terrorist attacks or cross-border cartel activity. But I don't really see what's in it for them. The US and Mexico have cooperated in joint excercises over the southern border, but membership in NORAD would be a more significant commitment.

@rae0521
@rae0521 3 года назад
I'm expecting to get bashed for my view but here goes anyway. If this was still 1921 I'd support the funding of a NORAD-type system 100%. But it's no longer the 20th century and the world has moved on electronically. With satellites we know if some threat is coming our way the moment it's launched. My question is... WHO is going to launch a strike and for what reason? There's NO HOPE of conquering the US/Canada by anyone at any time. And the result of an incoming strike would most certainly trigger, almost automatically, a counter-launch that would evaporate this idiotic "enemy." NORAD costs us HUGE amounts of money year after year after year. It's supposed to "detect" and "defend" us against some insane strike... but it CANNOT. Oh sure, it's might "detect." To know a strike is coming, I suppose, is better than not knowing... but by how much? What does it matter if we know 30 minutes before the H-bomb goes off over Toronto or the moment it goes off? Either way it's far too late to "defend." The only effective defence would be to stop the launch. Something, to my knowledge, we cannot do. Shooting down the missile, even if we could, sounds to me like it would cause as many problems as it solves. So what good is all the BILLIONS both countries spend on NORAD doing? I'd like the question put on the table... and answered in concrete terms. I'm open to be educated.
