In case everyone should know, while Puma concolor holds the Guinness World Records as the animal with the most common names, "puma" is the most official name for this species while there are no such things as either a "mountain lion", "deer tiger", "prairie tiger", "marsh panther" because they are all misnomers while "painter" and "catamount" are less often used and "cougar" refers exclusively to the nearctic puma (Puma concolor couguar) subspecies based on its scientific name, this officially divides the puma into only two valid subspecies: the Nearctic Puma (Puma concolor couguar) and the Neotropical Puma (Puma concolor concolor).
@Hayy-wann, there is no such thing as a florida panther, the leopard (Panthera pardus) is the only true panther, also the neotropical puma (Puma concolor concolor) is native to both Central America and South America, unlike the nearctic puma (Puma concolor couguar), which is found only in North America.
