In 2019 Mark Peterson decided that he would take his childhood passion of Upland hunting in Michigan with his dad to the ultimate level. Mark decided to take the journey to complete The North American Upland Slam. This is The Journey Within- A Bird Hunters Diary. The North American Upland Slam takes Mark across 3 countries in the quest to harvest 27 different upland species. This is a recap of the ups and downs of Mark quest and why he decided to take on the challenge.

Congratulations on your NA Upland Slam. I really enjoy your videos. But this one hits home. I’m a first generation novice hunter and my only hope is that I influence my children and to pass on whatever Knowledge I’m getting. Maybe once they are well off on their own they can invite their old man to hunt with them.

You are so blessed to be hunting this grand slam with your father. The love of bird hunting was also gifted to me by my late father. We didn't have a dog then but it was still just as fun. What I would do just to have one more hunt with him.

@@MarkVPeterson Waterfowling was my first love, as I have just recently gotten into upland hunting when I purchased my Pudelpointer. I would absolutley love to do the 47 waterfowl species. Good luck with that series as well!!!

I had a springer spaniel that would go on point and then flush quail and dove and then go into rabbit mode and keep circling them around.

I suspect the significance of bagging all of those birds is lost on most humans let alone most hunters. I live in Nevada and have never had the balls to go after snowcock. The grouse alone took a lot of time and patience for me. By the way, an orange and white Brittany and Benelli shotgun are my weapons of choice as well.

So is this an actual thing, or is it just something that you came up with? Very awesome! I'd love to know more about it, as far as like all the species involved and whatnot. Definitely something I'd be interested in pursuing. If you have any info that could help me out that would be great!

Tyler, it is not an official North American slam as their is no one governing body for all upland like there is the NWTF for the North American Turkey Slam. @@MarkVPeterson Awesome! Thanks for the reply, much appreciated! I will Definitely be looking more into this. I know there are probably certain species that I will have to go with an outfitter, but I would like to try most as a DIY type thing, and it better suits my budget, plus I live in ND so I'm not too far in any direction for some great upland hunting 👍 but when the time comes if I need to get hooked up with a outfitter, ill be in touch. Thanks again!

Life is what you make it. Pursue your dreams. When I was a kid I had a book "Pheasants of the World" written in the early 1900s and the author didn't just write about them, he hunted all 49 species in their native habitat.
