They were absolute geniuses for sure! I _think_ his break is in E major against the E minor chord in the fiddle part. Re-listening to the Arthur Smith version just now, at least on the first B part I think the fiddle outlines the E major while the guitar plays E minor! If that’s correct, seems like Scruggs & Warren kind of reversed those roles for their version.
@@jimselikoff889 Interesting; Scruggs might have been trying to emulate the sound of Foggy Mountain Breakdown where Flatt accompanied an E major while the melody plays E minor.
