Mikey Alfred should retire from anything skateboarding related and apply to be the creative director for Urban Outfitters where his talents would be appreciated
Just watched it and now I totally understand why no distributors wanted it. Complete mess of a movie with so many confusing plot points and awful pacing. Streat dreams remains undefeated for sure
@@zacktaylor1143 street dreams was a product of its time. Sure in hindsight it’s cheesy af but that’s also part of its charm since basically everything in the early 2000s was cheesy anyway

@@zacktaylor1143 exactly. when NH dropped it's trailer I was hyped cause it looked good, had big names and whatnot but then I saw the movie and holy shit it was awful. the MC was just a dick to everyone, pacing was horrible, at times it was awkward and mikey can't direct for shit. Street Dreams, while objectively is a subpar film is at least enjoyable. glad I pirated NH, nobody deserves to pay for that trash ass film
Mikey Alfred is a guy who was born affluent and has always had connections bcc of his parents (his mom worked/works) for paramount. And to me this movie just seems like a way for him to flex all the pro skaters and famous people he knows and can get to be in a movie

The setting in time was the most confusing part for me. The scene when they were at the diner felt like it was late 80s early 90s but then you see Miranda Cosgrove drive to school in like a 2020 Range Rover..
a big thing w student films in my experience, especially the first ones that are made, is that people think the way they talk in real life with their friends will directly translate to the screen and be just as interesting. a lot of this writing has holes because to the people involved it made perfect sense, i don’t think they really sat down and criticized the script or any of their own acting. if anything this only proves that from a technical standpoint, mikey can make a movie. hopefully in the future he can use this movie to see he’s not ready for feature films yet
The thing that bothered me about the movie the most (and I might be remembering this wrong) but the pros don’t look like good people at all in this film. They hang out with the nobody guy who tries to get the protagonist to basically violate a drunk chick and when the protagonist tries to tell the pros they’re like “oh so you just came to hate on our friend?” And as far as I remember they don’t cut that guy off or anything, which means these pros are still chilling with a dude that is inferred to be a sexual predator (or at least okay with witnessing it happening)

True Story. Used to be a moron drug addict. Went to jail in Marion County Florida for a few months. There was a old jenkem interview with Dan Plunkett. He said your average sponsored skateboarder with a board, shoe and clothing sponsor makes around $3000 a month. Your favourite pro is as broke as you are. A sad reality most don't want to admit.
I've skated w Plunkett a few times, he's from the same area as me. He was like 15 and I was around 18, dude ripped even as a kid, he just had it, I watched him kickflip a set and then immediately Ollie another one and my friend who introduced me says "there he goes" and that was pretty much it w Dan, when he was around you just watched him skate. Lol
It's kinda difficult for me to wrap my head around the notion that in the world of "North Hollywood, "two African American parents decide to name their black son after probably the most famously hated white supremacistof all time
my biggest issue with this film is not the quality of the film itself but the lack of actual, nonbiased constructive critism that mikey is getting for this movie. i think that illegal civ and its skaters (who are also in this movie) have such a cult following around the now following the releases of mid90s, ic3/godspeed, nico in all those movies, etc. i think a lot of illegal civ's supporters (this is no hate btw, i like what mikey does a lot but this movie was a miss for me) arent seeing past the fact that their favorite skaters are in this movie. i think many arent seeing the movie for its actual content and substance, or lack thereof, and are only seeing it because so and so is in the movie and thats why they like it. and i think this is the same reason why we arent seeing enough constructive critism. i think the lack of it will possibly hinder mikey in the future as he goes on to create more content
Also as this movie was first being released they said that if you leave reviews you can win boards and clothes, which is pretty much saying leave a good review and we will give you free shit. So this has resulted in sooo many fake reviews for this movie.
@@bvcoyle3903 right like i went on IMBD just to check out the reviews and a good 90% of them were reviews from people trying to win free boards and merch. not only is all of that shady asl and shallow, but even as a creator, mikey is never gonna get any real criticism for future movies if he keeps bribing his young impressionable audience with free stuff
The movie also showed the culture around meeting and becoming a pro as being completely undesirable. It’s hilarious how unlikable TJ and the other guy comes off.
913keith agree. Mid 90’s took me back instantly. Not only made me think of my old crew and the hijinxs we use to get into, but the stuff we watched and listened to as well. It’s one of the most on point skate movies I’ve ever seen.
Mikey Alfred said the main character “Michael” in the movie is based off of himself so him being a complete weirdo is pretty introspective & on point. I think it’s kinda cool that he’s self aware and willing to put himself on blast like that. There are some cringeworthy scenes in the movie like most of the dialogue between Ryder & Miranda, and the pacing is super weird but all in all I like the movie. I also totally agree Aramis carried this movie, I liked his acting the most
I also agree that the main character learned nothing at the end of the movie. Miranda shot him down & went on to college so he decided it was finally time to hit his homie up again. Nah bro that’s not how things work
Gx1000 is set up to have the best skate movie plot. With living in sf and Pablo dying and some of there friends getting canceled(Al Davis, yonnie Cruz) I swear it would be a great a24 film!!!
The worst part is that the youngins all look at Mikey Alfred like he's a god of the scene n probly really thought he was talented with this movie, furthering his detached false sense of putting on for skating.
Okay but the even weirder part about the Shoe Goo scene is that Michael tells him he doesn’t use shoe goo because it dries weird. That just means it’s working!! On a side note I’ve only been skating for maybe a few months now but I feel like it’d be rare to meet someone who doesn’t use shoe goo, it just doesn’t make sense to buy shoes so often.
Just watched it, and the cast performed well and the cinematography was very pleasing to watch visually. But the movie felt like an hour long intro and all the conflict and resolution happens in the last 20 minutes very poorly. The larger majority of the movie was pointless.
The skaters acting weren’t the issue, it’s Mikey Alfred’s fault for thinking he could make a good movie😂the script was basic and corny but I feel like ryder aramis and nico did they thing
