Most visitors to Iceland never take a road trip to the North but I hope that the beautiful nature I feature in this video convinces you that it's worth exploring. The main places in North Iceland that I showcase on this road trip are free but there are some activities, like the GeoSea baths and whale watching, that you can pay for. This video is just a sneak peek at what the North offers. Make sure to subscribe for more Iceland travel guides and adventures.
I partnered with Go Car Rental Iceland for this road trip. They are a local Icelandic rental car company with competitive rates, a great selection of cars, and friendly staff. They are my go-to rental company in Iceland when I need a car for an adventure.
Use my discount code Iceland10 to save 10% on your entire rental booking.

One of my followers saved $400 on her car rental cost after switching from a globally known rental car company in Iceland to Go Car Rental Iceland. Of course, my code helped with that savings. ;-)

The Geo spa was my favorite of all the spa's I went to in Iceland. The salt water and the views of the sea where amazing and the town it was in had great places to eat, a lovely harbor and pretty sites. I would go back in a minute.

The heart shaped stop lights are so cute! I don't know whose idea that was to install them. But that was a good call. I didn't know that Odin's horse had 8 legs. And that lake was so pretty.
@AllThingsIceland
@AllThingsIceland Год назад
Yea, I love the stop lights too. It’s fascinating to think about just how big Sleipnir must be considered to be since only one of his hooves made this place. 😊
@EmorettaRobinson

@@AllThingsIceland I hadn't heard about an eight legged horse before. So the concept and image is different than anything I'd known. Since I'm from Florida near Busch Gardens (and went there on school field trips) I've seen Clydesdale horses. So I can imagine a huge horse. And I'd like for more places to have the heart shaped street lights.

The beginning trails at Asbyrgi look like a storybook, like you said..."magical". It appears the drive from Reykjavik to Asbyrgi is about 6 hours. So the drive is very scenic, yes? Love your content. Thank you for sharing this beautiful country with us.

LAUFAS is a turf house located near Akureyri, just a little north west of the pay tunnel on the opposite side of the fjord. Definitely worth a visit. It has been beautifully restored with period furnishings.

To me, northern Iceland is more like the Iceland I remember from my childhood than southern. And I'm a southerner. But when I'm up north, it's like going back to my... roots? Edit: I should elaborate. What I mean is that it has the FEELING of Iceland, on an emotional level. Whereas the south, especially the areas around Reykjavik, feels more like being in a heavily progressive town in New Jersey. Like, that's awesome. But it doesn't tick off that "Hey, I'm in Iceland!" box for me.

I was just on a ring road tour and saw some of those places. The area around Dettifoss looks like the moon, while those reddish areas near Myvatn look like Mars. Also, got to see Myvatn on a calm, sunny day, was like a giant mirror. On a recommendation of our guide, ate lunch at Bautinn in downtown Akureyri (great burgers), followed by ice cream at Turninn (the little pink building on the right at 0:57). I hope to visit Iceland again some day!

Beautiful footage and fantastic narration! Thank you!! Did you have to register or be licensed to get the drone footage?
@AllThingsIceland
@AllThingsIceland Год назад
Thank you and my pleasure. In some places, you don’t have to register. However, in one spot I used stock drone footage that I have a license to use and that footage was captured with permission. I’ve been thinking of doing a video about the rules regarding drones in Iceland.

Nice to see a shot, however short, of Husavik! My father was stationed there during World War 2 and I went there many years ago! What was the Royal Navy doing in Iceland.? Well, after Hitler invaded Denmark, the U.S.A and the U.K. occupied Danish territories in the North Atlantic. The Brits went to the Faeroes and Iceland and the Americans went to Greenland. Interestingly there was a pro-Nazi Icelander whom my father and a couple of other sailors had to arrest with the full suppport, I must add, of the brother of the Icelandic Quisling.
