I used to work in an electronics store. A customer who was looking for a TV once asked me whether she'd need to seek government approval first before buying the TV. I politely explained no such approval is needed in my country (Australia). It got me thinking of what kind of restrictions are imposed in other parts of the world. She was Asian but I'm not sure from where exactly. Very strange.

To get some real people stories you have to go to channels run by north korean defectors. But 99% of them don't have English subs so you'd have to use autotranslate

There is a nationwide and also, there are a few shortwave stations that should prevent BBC world news, DW, Radio Australia (shut), Radio Taiwan or NHK and a few religious station from being received because they can be receives from the other side of the globe with a badly tuned transistor receiver. They also have a international broadcast broadcasting outside of the international shortwave bands.

We Americans are even banned from coming there because we're seen as spies to them and their statues are really bias about war. North Koreans are forced to worship Kim and have to literally force out tears to look like they're actually mourning. Because if you're faking, you'll literally get executed. And we literally have to save a photo poster of Kim when our house is burning down. Risking their damn lives for a stupid picture of their president. That country sounds so miserable and sad. It can be modified IF you run it on a computer connected to the public Internet. If you run it on a computer connected to North Korean "Kwangmyong" network the removal of the block doesn't give you anything, because there is no connection between Kwangmyong and the public Internet. Probably there are some gateways/proxies available to government, their news agency etc. but these are not generally accessible, you need to have an account there to use them.

As you can see, television on North Korea are still using Analog or DVB-T where they using analog transmission and internet are limited. Several broadcast are jammed for outside North Korea such as South Korea and several closest country such as Northeastern China, Russia, and Japan. Several computer on North Korea are using Linux for primary operating systems. May Red Star OS are still live for computer on North Korea but Red Star OS are really closed and can't be accessible outside North Korea.

Probably not. Most of North Korea is physically disconnected from outside ISP's. That's also why their websites use IP addresses instead of web addresses, because they can't access international DNS. I'm not sure if they have their own DNS by now, but probably not.

Only very very higher up official have access to Internet connects thorough satellite and even that is highly monitored. North Koreans still use keypad phones and only handful of people use the Infranet(Domestic). Everything is limited and controlled by the government. Their knowledge of outside world is limited to whatever gov allows.

I remember as little kid growing up in 90 Russia we only had 2 channels before 15 was added later on... Well those 2 channels were miles better than any channel on UK's free view. Like the daytime shows. TV series and movies foreign and local stuff... Absolutely shat on BBC and itv channels. I remember that was the biggest culture shock for me when we moved to UK. So I'm thinking those 3 NKs channels are probably better too🤣
