Oriel rd station, bottom of Olivia st and Kirkdale the top point of Bootle Im not a scouser but I remember Bootle Jollys pub marsh lane Cabbage in netherton with the bookies next door
The first photo in the sequence, taken from Miller's Bridge of Oriel Road station, also features St John's Hall, the wooden single story structure to the right of the station. The Beatles played there a couple of times. It was the local youth club. Photos of it are extremely rare.
I worked at the old container base when Parcel force took it over ,there were plans to run Mail trains into the base on the original line ,but never happened
I first heard that they were going to open the line to passengers in the 1970s but the only time I saw any passengers was on grand national day. Lived on Harris Drive any played A lot on the Rallah there. It's all overgrown now and only one disused track. I vaguely remember stream trains going under the Harris drive bridge and the siding being ripped up next to the allotments. Does anyone know what year that nay be ?
@@doggerproductions Yeah, just like gmpte kept saying they'd reopen the railway to leigh, but they never did, instead they made it into a concrete guided busway and it's a right load of crap.
@@doggerproductions it makes total sense to reopen this because it would relieve passengers travelling south from say Southport to Ormskirk doing the Sandhills shuffle. Also there is a direct link possible from Bootle to Edge Hill and Lime Street which gives the possibility of semi-fast services directly from these stations plus if the Edge Hill Spur project comes about this would further validate the reopening. In my opinion Ormskirk to Preston should be electrified and double tracked where possible. In the grand scheme of things, given that the new 777’s can run on batteries for a while, I’d overhead electrify all the above ground Merseyrail area and just have the 777’s running on batteries in the underground sections, obviously fit them with pantographs which is a factory option. That way the expansion of Merseyrail is potentially unlimited.
