Coming towards the end of my stint at URM I was kind of disappointed I never got to use one of the Scanias however, one month before my departure my full time truck broke down, needing a new tail shaft from memory, with a major delay on parts, the truck was off the road for about a month. Thus meaning I got to use this Scania/CS (I believe this was built after SPAK acquired CS) for a month, was a pretty cool experience! These trucks went pretty good for their age, this one being the better one out of the two spares at the Auburn yard, great loading on them but couldn't say the same for the driver, being a semi automatic with clutch take off it's not ideal for the start/stop on residential collections.
Here we are in Atchinson Lane St Leonards doing one of the many unit blocks along this lane. I have another short clip on garbage in this same laneway that I will upload in conjunction with this video.

North Sydney, Lane Cove and Hunters Hill park up in Auburn alongside the Cumberland trucks. I’ve moved on from URM, currently at Inner West

With the way you blokes poorly lift bins manually, your not saving time and putting your body under more strain. Even if you lifted bins manually the correct way, your still only saving an hour or two.

I definitely agree with you but with the lay out of North Sydney and the trucks we have using the lifter slows things down heaps. Definitely better with the CS trucks but you still have to wait for packer cycles to finish before raising the lifter again. The 240s here are always light so no need to really use the lifter. But being job and finish no one wants to be there longer then they have to. Could you show me an example of how to properly lift bins? This is how I’ve been taught but keen to know if there’s a better way. However, having worked in the Inner West where the houses are closer together, and we have good trucks set up properly, it is definitely quicker to use the lifter.

@@willoughbygarbagefan Thank you for waiting. When manually lifting bins one lets the bin do the work. Light bins are a sort of a rolling-flick- pull-pivot-pause-drop and roll, using the wheels and handles to you advantage. Heavier but not lifter worthy are a sort of power lift, again using the axle and handle to your advantage. Let the bin do the work not you.
