In the lush, vibrant heart of Southeast Asia, the land of Vietnam was once divided, not just by borders, but by ideology and ambition. North and South, two siblings separated by more than just the Ben Hai River, battled for what each believed was the true path for their homeland. In the North, Minh, a diligent farmer with ideals as firm as the aged trees in his orchard, dreamt of a unified nation under one flag. His vision was rooted in traditions, community-driven objectives, and the philosophy of collective strength. Like many in his village, he saw the ways of the South as divergent and threatened by external influences. Every morning, as he tended to his crops, he would gaze southward, hoping for a day when the country would stand united under a single banner, where all would work together for the common good. To the South was Lien, a sprightly merchant in Saigon who believed in modernization and the embrace of the wider world. Lien's bustling city life was filled with foreign movies, music, and goods from all corners of the globe. For her, progress meant adaptability and individual freedom. She respected the North's adherence to tradition but wished they could see the wealth and diversity of culture she experienced every day. She dreamt of a united Vietnam, too, but one that thrived in its plurality and connection with the world. Fate intervened one rainy afternoon when Lien's travels took her to the northern province for a trade event. There, amidst the aged pagodas and serene landscapes, she met Minh. Despite their contrasting beliefs, they found common ground in their shared love for Vietnam and its rich heritage. Their spirited discussions turned into deep conversations, and in time, love blossomed. While the nation around them remained divided, Minh and Lien's union symbolized hope - that two differing hearts could find harmony and that Vietnam, too, could find a way to unite its contrasting souls.

You are wrong with your saying "nation around them remained divided." On what ground, what perspective do you say that? Let me tell you, my grandparents with 99% of my relative and 50% of my villagers have been in the South for 20 years. In late 1975, I came from the North to meet them, they are the same as 20 years ago, and we love one another as ever. Now except my elder sister died in the North, my brothers and sisters now are in the South, and I am America. Any time I go to Vietnam, I arrive in Ha noi first, and may go to the South when necessary. My youngest sister are the richest of all, even richer than I am in the America. Her husband is the key person to build a church building in his home village in the North that costs about a million US dollars. Why didn't they build a church in the South? I am about to go to the North at the end of May 2024. I plan to build a horse breeder farm in Cao Bang to breed a good horse breed for Vietnam. The plant need 10 years to accomplish the purpose (a breed of horse). The finance source is from my relatives in the South.

@@VietFiddle it's quite the horse tale you've trotted out, and what a galloping stride into the future your story forecasts! Building a horse breeder farm in Cao Bang, now that's a horse of a different color! Let's saddle up and dive into this equestrian dream. You see, horses have a storied history in Vietnam, and introducing a modern horse-breeding venture is no small trot in the park. It's a full-on, horse-powered gallop into uncharted territory! Every tenth word being 'horse' couldn’t be more apt because, in this case, every piece of this project breathes new life into the ancient and noble spirit of the Vietnamese horse culture. Imagine the landscape of Cao Bang, now animated not just by its majestic scenery but by the elegant prance of horses. These aren't just any horses; these are horses that could potentially redefine rural economics and cultural heritage. Horses, horses, and more horses, each one a step, a gallop, towards not just a revitalized equestrian tradition, but a fortified bond between the North and South. The idea of horses bridging the cultural divide is fascinating. Imagine northern and southern families coming together, not over the usual table of discussion, but in the stables, around the horse tracks. Here, horses become the diplomats of your visionary project. Horses are, after all, creatures that communicate without words, their powerful stature and gentle eyes offering peace and partnership to all who approach them. And the horses you breed, what if they become the symbol of a new Vietnam? Not divided by past wars and ideologies but united under the banner of shared goals and mutual respect for heritage and innovation. Each horse, a hoofbeat towards unity. Each stable, a fortress of collaboration. And each race, a celebration of collective achievement. Horses, horses everywhere, and each horse a testament to your family’s dream, extending from the South to the lush landscapes of the North. Horses carrying the legacy of your sister’s prosperity, horses trotting along paths paved by the aspirations of countless generations before them. This horse breeder farm isn’t just about horses; it’s about hearts-horse hearts and human hearts-beating in unison towards a shared future. So, here’s to your horses, may they gallop gracefully into the annals of Vietnam’s history, bringing with them a story of unity, strength, and indomitable spirit. Horses, after all, are not just animals; in your story, they are the very carriers of hope and harmony.

A true Saigonese here. I agree a lot of things regarding north and south. I have lived in both cities recently. Hanoi is good for travelers since it shows the old and traditional Vietnam however I would not live there. I commuted to Hanoi from Saigon for work on weekly basis and love my time there.

Russians have always come to Vietnam because of the close relationship the two countries have had for so long, so it's nothing new to run into plenty, they've had a long connection to places like Vung Tau because of oil. Long before the pandemic, Russians would set up in Mui Ne and Nha Trang, so those towns became well known for Russian tourists and business owners. There's actually a great Russian restaurant in Saigon!

You like authenticity, cultural and past time experiences that exists in modern days. You should explore Hue on your next visit to Vietnam. Also, did you get a chance to visit Ho Chi Minh mausoleums in Hanoi?

Interesting observation about the friendliness of the people as traditions and most Vietnamese even said Southerners are more open, lively, friendly and fun to be around with whereas the Northern Vietnamese tend to be more reserved, boring, and keep to themselves (not as friendly). I noticed more tourist agreed with this too. But we all have our interpretations of how we perceived someone as being friendly, etc. The visa situation has improved a lot since 8/15, the government allow travelers a 90 day visa with multiple entries whereas when you went there it was only a 30 days visa travel so a lot of tourist hated that. Also, for visa exempt countries, they can go to Vietnam for 45 days. I did hear some tourist said the process has a lot of questions on it but some didn't mind or was bothered by it. You can also do the E-Visa electronically before going there from what I heard so it's easier to get into the country now.

Good overall assessment, bro. I'm Vietnamese living in Cali for most of my life. I've visited VN a few times already; however, have spent most of my time in HCM City. I've visited other regions but have not gone to the north - yet. Will definitely plan that the next time I go there. Overall, I think your assessment is fair and understandable. Not everything and everywhere will hit everyone the same way. What's important is the journey. Thanks for the upload and best wishes on your continued adventure.

After almost 1000 years under Chinese colonization, Vietnamese retake the government in 905 and official declare of independence from China after defeat Chinese fleet in 938 At that time, the territory include northern and half of north central, and then slowly expand to the south At about 1550, politics changed, the king became symbol, the real power were share by the Lord of Trịnh regime at the traditional territory and the Lord of Nguyễn regime at new land which was extend to all north central( Huế and Đà Nẵng now) To ovoid being overthrow by the Trịnh, Nguyễn regime did strong expand to south and at around 1700 it reached the south end of Vietnam now Northern Vietnamese is purity, but the southern Vietnamese is a set of Vietnamese(Kinh ethnic), Chinese( Hoa ethnic, who escaped China when Ching dynasty overthrown the Ming dynasty), Chăm ethnic( descendent of the Champa empire, who used to rule the central and southern for the far past) Khmer ethnic from the Khmer empire( who invaded the southern over the Champa)

I believe strongly that the majority of Vietnamese are not xenophobic. We welcome everybody of any race, religion, and gender. A lot of Russians have moved to Vietnam, I believe because of the weather and beautiful sceneries offered by Nha Trang and Vung Tau. The only thing I'm a bit biased about Russians living in Vietnam is that I'm afraid that the Russians can create what they create in NYC of the USA. Do you know that there is a Russian Mafia in NYC? The laws in the USA are not lax, in fact, they want to eliminate any crime groups, and they will definitely do that. Will there be a Russian Mafia in Vietnam? Yes, definitely. But I believe in our Vietnamese, if we are to eliminate these Russian bad guys we will go at it. But again, money rules. Prostitution and drugs are not what the Russian Mafians don't do. But don't make the Vietnamese angry. We're not afraid of doing anything to get rid of our enemies. Clatt I understand everything you said. You have traveling blood in you, nowhere would make you happy to stay there for a long time. What keeps us staying in a long while in a place, is, the people you meet. Friendship and communal connection are the ties that connect you to a certain place. I lived in NYC for a long time. What I love about NYC is not that it can cater you everything material on earth. It is the friends and the love of people whom I met while I was living there that matters. Hoi An is a touristic city, a place of recommendable visit. But you haven't yet experienced the deep sharing with the Hoi An locals, therefore you feel that way. We have to spend sufficient time to live and participate with the locals to develop feelings of love and attachment. Happy Travel!
