I love Chinese Camp, because it's a part of my family history. That brick building with green doors was originally a store. My great-great grandfather built it and ran it. One of the buildings down the street was a boarding house where my great-grandma had an encounter with Black Bart. Lots of history in this town!
My daughter's great grandpa remembers riding in the wagon from the homestead in Coulterville to Chinese Camp to catch the train to Oakdale. This is along what is now Highway 49. Been through here many times, and yeah, I wouldn't doubt it being haunted.
Chinese town? Apparently this place had fairly recent inhabitants though the narrator only talks about gold days. Electric digital meters, cyclone fences and stop signs arent from the 1800's.
It doesn't have much of a history after its boom days Sure you'll find a few people lived there for many years and maybe still do. The definition of ghost town doesn't mean 100% abandoned if you look it up
@@biscuitcase83 why are we watching? Maybe because of the clickbait title 😂😂 Most haunted place in Nor Cal and the only reports are feelings of unease? No shit you're going to feel weird in a ghost town from the wild west days
@@caseymckenzie8065 Umm, yeah I do. Yes, in the gold rush days there was the only Tong war ever fought in the US. If you can read I said (now days) it is quite peaceful. Now Days. sheesh, I guess you can write but can't read.
I live in Tuolumne County about 15 minutes from Chinese Camp. Kiddos and I were just there a few weeks ago (again) reading the amazing centuries old headstones around the little Church of Europeans (one Native American women/mother, zero Chinese people) who’d immigrated to the new world, lived & worked here in Chinese Camp. Each headstone includes the person’s name, dob, date of death along with the Country of their ancestral homeland in Europe most of who’d come from Ireland and England. The little Christian Church & graveyard is now owned and cared for by the Catholic Church in downtown Sonora, locally referred to as the “Red Church”.
Born and raised in Antioch California, always loved backpacking all around the black diamond mines, and mount Diablo. Exploring gold country is always fun and interesting. Good video I enjoyed it. Cheers 🍻👍
I grew up in Antioch, graduated AHS in ‘76. Used to party with friends at the Black Diamond mines, & can tell you stories of ghostly encounters different members of my family had out there, including my grandmother who was taking pictures of the oak trees & saw bodies or heads hanging from the tree branches, and my step dad who ran out of gas near sundown on the road (before it got closed off) that went from Kirker Pass to the mines & on out to Sommersville Rd…he was walking with his gas can toward Antioch when he was given a ride by a silent man driving a 2 horse team wagon…when he got off the wagon & turned to thank the man, the man had vanished! My dad was FREAKED OUT! The Mines are pretty spooky too! Well, they were b4 they were turned into a tourist attraction…
I grew up in Oakdale and have been there many times, never felt any uneasiness! Awesome little town! You should check out Columbia on the other side of Sonora! Did you see the school, it has all of the Chinese architecture and is still being used!
Opuszczone stare przerażające miasto duchów....Lubię takie klimaty 😃 strasznie mi się podobają i ciekawią mnie takie dokumenty o ciekawych miejscach w Kalifornii 😉

It's Chinese Camp not town and the town your investigating isn't the original town. The original town is under Don Pedro because it was flooded to create the reservoir. The mansion of the town founder and mine owner became visible for the first time in God knows how long because the water level was so low. You could also see the remanence of the old camp and the mine were also showing.
"Chinese" were an integral part of many places; integrated; offered services & balanced in that Era in many, many places...including, the area au recorded; as well Truckee [railroad/Donner Summit on up the 'Grayeagle-North] on over to "Virginia City"....etc., Etc., ETC.... [SO, much history to learn; ALWAYS.. ] Thank U, for posting!
I believe certain places give off vibes. I have experienced that feeling once when in the Catskills we found an abandoned house w artifacts! Even an old boot for a woman and a brass bed. The wind pickedvup and I got the chills, the hair on my arms and neck stood up and I said, "it's time to go!"
Tuolomne and Sonora are more central CA, but many people just label everything north of Los Angeles as ”NorCal”. You mentioned that the “surrounding town” was creepy. While I’ve never been to Chinese Camp (though I had been quite near it frequently), the town proper of Tulomne is just a quiet little small mountain town with a couple shopping centers, a couple gas stations, and a Foster Freeze burger joint. More recently, the Black Oak Indian Casino was built (about 15 years ago). Anyway, my point is that there’s not too much creepiness to be found in the surrounding town. It’s a historic place, lots of easily accessible hiking trails with astounding mountain vistas.
@@danielamaro4439 yes the halfway marker for north and south is located in Madera, Ca. Around ave.13 and hwy. 99. Its marked in the center of the freeway with Sequoia redwood tree marking northside and a palm tree marking the southside of the state.
I know all about the palm tree on 99 marking the halfway point. I’ve lived here my entire life, except for college. My point is that there is more than just NorCal and SoCal. The Central part of the state in fact does exist, not just geographically, but culturally. Yes, you can just look at the palm tree and say everything on one side is NorCal and everything on the other side is SoCal. But I would venture to guess that everyone who lives in the 209 area code would more likely identify as Central Californian.
Check out Bear valley town of Hornitos, tons of historical buildings still left and a few surprises if you get to dig the area i have was real interesting things we found :)
Been there. Just haven't got the videos posted yet. I have some great friends in Bear Valley. Super cool place. Hornitos is awesome also, do they still do the pancake breakfast and craft fair?
Just a few things that I noticed. For a ghost town, why is there still power meters, A/C's, parked cars, etc. If the place were haunted (and I am not saying that it isn't), I know I wouldn't be hanging around to install the amenities.
I liked this video. Chinese Camp must be a new ghost town because one of the buildings that was on the video still had an ac unit in the window. When was Chinese Camp abandoned?
Hi, I was disappointed watching this video of you going by all those old homes n not letting us get a peek of what's inside through a window. This was just a tease.
@@blainestravels4455 That would be so incredible. Or at least to get a peek in the windows!!! Lol. I love old Ghost Towns like this one. I can see visions of people back then living their lives peacefully n happily.
Add creepy music & varying sounds with old, falling down buildings = viewers feel creeped out. Would have been more effective on a very gloomy day or at dusk with the deeper shadows.
I live in Jamestown California... Close to the National Hotel... but this town may still have people but I've seen some things. Never go to the graveyard with the big bell... especially at night...
The geographic center of California is in North Fork the north-south line is in Madera on Highway 99 marked by a palm tree and a redwood tree. Chinese Camp is located north of both of these location. So if you divide California in half Chinese camp is in Northern California. That is why I titled it Northern California.
All the expertly placed "No Trespassing" signs are meaningless. Pigs like to apply the law out of context, to trespass a person you must steal apple from their tree, or drink from their pond. Walking up to a door to knock on it is totally legal. Most people call that soliciting... you can solicit your channel (ask the owner if you can record it, not your fault the owner is irresponsible)
Lionel here in Central California. I live about 35 miles from there and ride my Harley through the town which has a small bar/store, school, and post office. Plus residents. Has the old buildings as shown plus a fire station and church on the other side of highway 49. Is it haunted, not sure, ghost town, I don’t think so! Just saying…
The 3rd building upper left hand window you could see a little boy in the window when you took pictures some idiot broke the window maybe he got scared and did it
That could be easily done. The area is full of History and some of it is haunted. In that area there's a couple of hotels in Jamestown. In my videos there is a video that covers 6 hotels in the area that have a haunted history thanks for watching and please subscribe to my channel
I grew up in Calaveras, Amador and Tuamie counties areas There is lots historical sites all over the place when I was a teenager in the late 70s early 80s we used to go exploring around in these areas. They’re definitely old, but not haunted. matter fact, one of the buildings that you show in your video is a state historical landmark. If you can see the placard my grandparents old ranch in double Springs California has a old stage coach Wells Fargo stop there, and also the neighbor has the old mine in their pasture. It’s not haunted, your video was OK but it could’ve done without the creepy music
@doomsloth7884 it's north of madera so it is in the north. Dividing line for north and south is at Ave 13 in madera, it's marked with a redwood and palm tree on hwy 99
Not much of a narrative. I was thinking maybe a bit more historical stuff. What were active dates of the town and what happened to cause it to be abandoned? You claim its haunted but never address any of that information.
I need help I’m suffering from sickness I think it’s the house I live in which is rumored to be on Native American burial grounds I cough and can no longer verbalize words Ive asked for prayer but what I’m going through is real exorcist shit. You can look it up where I live is cursed land.
