@@Hannahtheredhead2454 no, sorry but not for me. It’s a depressing sign of the loss of precision and craft of the English Language. If one is publishing material, the audio should be of the same high standard as the images. If it had been made by a group of first year secondary school pupils I would have been impressed, but still not amazed. I would be amazed by finding that the trains were powered by nuclear reactors or perhaps dilithium crystals. Finding trains and tracks and stations on a newly opened railway is not amazing. Exciting perhaps, Impressive certainly, but amazing? No.

I would love to see all the head scratching when people are trying to figure out which trains to use on Northern Line. Please don’t forget my request to explore Old Street . It's ABBA of the transport world. It would be great to watch the two hot fitties and two fellows sing a parody song of Waterloo, using Waterloo underground station in the lyrics. The architect of the Battersea Power Station, underground station, I feel, may have been influenced by the pc game, Minecraft. Both of the stations look very contemporary and chic. Who knew, there is so much history and metamorphosing to the London Underground. Good tele guys.

Great video. I produced all of the signage artwork for the Northern line extension. I've been working on it for over two years and it's great seeing it all installed. I just wanted to comment on your observation about the font at 21.42. The font is not Johnston 100. It is actually NJFont Signing Medium, which is an updated version of the NewJohnstonSigning font. TFL updated the NewJohnstonSigning font about 12 years ago. They made subtle changes to the kerning and various characters. The most notable change was the removal of the notch at the top of the number 1. We did trial Johnston 100 for TFL years ago but as far as i'm aware it has not been put into official use on the network. It maybe in use for other purposes. Hope this was of interest :)

The NYC Subway feel at Nine Elms may have been deliberate, as the USA paid towards that station outside of their embassy.

Tell us about when and how exactly the American Embassy paid towards the new stations. And in any case, why would that affect the design? Design normals change over time and it’s likely that these designs were influenced by observations of underground stations from all over the world.

Hello there, the Pacific steam locomotives (No. 1 - No. 3 and No. 6 + No. 7) of the Romney, Hythe and Dymchurch Railway were designed by Henry Greenly and built by Davey Paxman. Both the American outline steam locomotives No. 9 'Winston Churchill' and No. 10 'Doctor Syn' were designed by Henry Greenly & ALS Richardson and were built by Yorkshire Engine Company. Finally the German steam locomotive No. 11 'Black Prince' was designed by Roland Marcens and built by Krupps. Most of the steam locomotives on the Ravenglass and Eskdale Railway were built by Bassett Lowke. It will be interesting to see what happens to the passenger numbers on the Central line once the Elizabeth line opens. I think that many people would prefer to ride the Elizabeth line rather than the Central line. It will be fascinating to see the passenger ridership statistics for both the Central line and the Elizabeth line, as they parallel each other in central London. Are you guys just a little bit curious and interested to see what is going to happen once the Elizabeth line opens? Best wishes and take care. Kind regards, Peter Skuce. St Albans. Hertfordshire.

I'm just reading a great book on the RH&DR by JB Snell as Laura and I will be visiting there for a future episode. The owner of the RH&DR JEP Howey was first bitten by the bug with a Bassett-Lowke Atlantic locomotive before graduating to larger locomotives as you describe. Re the Elizabeth line: you are 100% correct we are very curious and keen to take the hangouts behind the scenes. I've been fortunate enough to visit most of the sites so I know what treats we have to bring you in the future. I'm sure you are right about the relief to the Central line once the Elizabeth line opens. Crossrail One is a similar route to that proposed for the pre-war express Central tube line - designed to do exactly that. Much the same for Crossrail two being the express Northern line in the same plans. Thanks for watching and joining in the chat

Travelling out of Kennington on Probably the Second train of the day, it appeared confused as the PIS on the platform said 'Check Front of Train' which is interesting as front of train was in the tunnel end !, the PIS on the train was blank - but woke up on the approach to Nine Elms and auto announced Battersea Power Station as the next station - the announcement at Kennington was a manual one from the Driver. Coming up from Morden the N/B was held at a (virtual) red signal before entering Kennington so it looked like the new timetable had not quite bedded in.

For example, do they get extra copies of all the posters, signs, or maps automatically, or do they only get to grab things when they get replaced? The quicker (?) win for rail in south london has to be finding route space from Clapham High Street back into Victoria on a better basis, lift access at Battersea Park , Wandsworth Road and Clapham High Street, and wider, safer platforms at Clapham North as this is becoming a very busy interchange with Clapham High Street.

A Few notes on the line extension. The external name of Nine Elms Station seems rather faded - as if it is an old station. The Width (height) of lettering seems greater than say Southward or Bermondsey, very different architecture. The tunnels at Battersea Power Station (note on journey planner all tube stations can be specified as Underground Station, so for internet terms its Battersea Power Station Underground Station, seem deeper than nine elms - though I didnt use the escalators at Nine Elms to check, this would indicate that the onward extension west has taken into account the onward routing. The treatment of the two stations on the maps (Tube and London Connections/London Railways map are different), appears geographical different with Battersea Power Station South of Nine Elms (its not, as such). The station names almost need bracket identifiers , Battersea Power Station is located on Battersea Park Road and is not too far south of the former CEGB Power Station Building and obviously the developing housing and commercial sites. Nine Elms is effectively south of BPS and is located on Wandsworth Road on the north side thereof adjacent to the large Sainsburys superstore. It is possible to walk from Battersea Park Road to Wandsworth Road, via at least one footway through one of the railway arches under the LSWR tracks out of Vauxhall. It is also walkable from Nine Elms Station to Stockwell Station. ( a good for the runners race the train from Stockwell to Nine Elms ! ) Nine Elms reminds me of Morden, with the station concourse very much open to the street frontage, but it could benefit from a couple of shops at street level - though there are good cafes etc south of the station.

It looks really odd to me to have a tube station that has a box-shaped excavity - I think that might have been started with the JLE but that isn't a line that I've used - to me, tube stations should be tubular! Presumably the extension to Battersea Power Station Station will require more trains in use - was there sufficient spare stock already to accommodate this increased demand without any trouble?

Hey Guys, amazing episode (again). But is the new Station officially called "Battersea Power Station" or is it "Battersea Power Station Station"? I can't wait to visit the stations myself :)
@chrisnix7981

Hi Tobias. It's officially "Battersea Power Station".
@hairyairey
@hairyairey Год назад
@@chrisnix7981 There was in fact two power stations at Battersea, A & B. So it's technically Battersea Power Stations. And as every station has an implied "Station" suffix it therefore should be called Battersea Power Stations Station. Or Battersea Power (Station) cubed.

I noticed that Mordan was at the top of the northern line map? Should it not be at the bottom working up the line and not down it. I seem to remember the map being this way around!

Looking at the diagrammatic maps, they appear to be upside down. Station you're at is at the top, and Northbound stations run down the "page". Is there a clever reason for this, or has Australia been placed at the top of the World?

"The first London Underground extension of the 21st Century" - fed to all media outlets in the UK and swallowed as fact. March 2008: Piccadilly Line extension to Terminal 5. The research that went into finding this out was exhausting...🙄

@@alexgrundon2346 Nothing to Google. No other tube extensions this century unless you're thinking of the East London Line which had already been passed over to London Overground when it was extended to Dalston.

This would be in the style of the Piccadilly Line extension platforms and not like the Jubilee Line extension platforms.

Why is the map of the Northern Line at the stations upside down? Having North at the bottom is not what people will expect. People will be confused until they realise that the map orientation convention has been turned on its head.

I did love it. The foursome was there ahead of the rest of the world to bring us viewers and fans something special, something historic. I’m stuck in Chicago so it was, indeed, a real treat that Alex and. Bria and Laura and Siddy made me feel like I had a super exclusive peek into history as it is being made.

Final comment is that it seems a little unfair that Battersea Park Road and Nine Elms are not joint zone 1/2 stations as the amount of 'social' housing south of Wandsworth Road is quite large and a cheaper fare to Elephant and Castle would take some stress off the Bus Route running along Wandsworth Road. - Note its also not too far for the active to walk from Wandsworth Road Overground to Nine Elms Underground Station.
