Brilliant tutorials!! Never could dance as a youth. Never thought about asking anyone. My wife made fun of me on the dance floor knce so I walked of and said I would never dance with her again. Thirty years later I did at my sons wedding but just the once. Now at aged 70 its is on my bucket list. One day I am going to surprise her. Thank you young man! You can teach an old dog new tricks!👍🏾😎🤗
I was today days old when I discovered this and it's great. I love watching people dance this and I need to learn. I will start today! Thank you for your tutorial!
Northern Soul Young and Old, here I am 69 years old in the year of 2018 - I'm a singer (though haven't in a bit) and ::sigh:: have a rare movement disorder, called "Stiff Person Syndrome" and one thing that comes with it is anxiety which then when on the dance floor I just move, yup, stiff!! lol, I like these moves and feel I will give them a go and whatever I can, I'll do, I"m here in the usa and just discovered northern soul...love you all who love great music and dancing!!
I’m 64 and I’ve just discovered it , I’m a good dancer , always have been but this is just proving a little bit difficult. I’ll get there ? Love the music, love the videos and love the dancing
Im just a tiny bit younger A beginner too.. I use this as my lockdown exercise workout.. Indeed it is difficult.. Its like trying to do 2 or 3 things all at once with your feet.. Great fun trying Ill get there !😀 Never too late to learn something new.. 🕊🍃👍
Yes it will be difficult. Because it's f bull shit. Northern soul is about the music first. Then second the music. Oh did I mention the music. You need to find your own dance move. Your body. It's f come dancing. It a FREE STYLE DANCE TO FREE STYLE 100 MPH MUSIC no such thing as dance class. It's all individual it's not F line dancing.
Hey. Guys. This vids well good it's giving me ideas for when I go to my first soul night as I'm only 17 can't wait till I'm 18 been into soul since I was like Like 11 Northern soul is the best
Brilliant video again! I'm can do this pretty well as I've been into the soul scene a while now, I'm simply here just because I enjoy seeing others dance! And seeing people learn!
Thanks this is great I started learning because my dad always says when I dance I look like a northern soul dancer thought I better brush up this really helps
I've just been to my first Northern Soul night, and was amazed at all the dancing. I immediately came home and looked up dance tutorials for absolute beginners. This is just what I was looking for. Thankyou.
Made my first visit to a NS night this year, what an amazing night. People of all ages and dancing abilities just having fun to great music. Have always loved the music, but now a definite Soul Night convert.
Superb - really like your teaching style & the way you break a move down into its individual components - keeps things nice and simple - v encouraging for beginners I should think, and helps to build confidence. Well done sir! 👏 🎶 👏 👏 👏
Just got into Northern Soul and loooove it! I've never actually seen this style anywhere in Canada, seems like more of a UK thing? Anywho thanks for the great tutorial!
Been a soul girl for most of my life but i'll be damned if i can spin more than twice, just never could get the hang of it. Great tutorials btw, good to see young blood getting into soul & wanting to learn the dance moves KTF
Me too...(a soul boy that is...). My last (drunken) attempt in my kitchen resulted in a fall onto the kitchen side and a fractured shoulder (which I didn't know about until an ultrasound scan I had when it had almost healed, lol) - that was over 18 months ago. Time to get back on the horse ready for an All-Dayer next month :-)
I have been in to music soul and jazz funk all my life I have liked Northern Soul but find it hard to dance to. Us down south we dance on the beat. Any way ihave been trying to flow your video it's been a great help to me thanks. Bazar.

Mate ... you are an inspiration. I love the vids and have them saved on my favourites. I have a pair of Bass Weejun Penny Loafers now and these are great for dancing in. What clothes would you recommend for first timers? Laurie
Cool - Well done Buddy - have to do one with you - when we get together again - there one end of the month next week end bank holiday may blackpool dancing for cancer if you coming for that - just hope the weather aint Pants LOL
What is the beat you count to when doing the spin - you've got one, two and three leading up to it - do you do the whole spin on just one beat before starting the move again on beat one? It would be good if you do the whole move a few times slowly, whilst counting out the beat. Thanks for your great videos! I did try this spin a couple of times whilst out dancing last night, so it will eventually get learnt with practice!
Booper is alive and well mate I see him at car auctions every week but I get your drift these idiots have trashed what was a fantastic underground scene we never had dance lessons you picked up bits that looked good and felt the music and moved what a joke it's turned in to dance lessons lol never been heard of until now . After spinning records and dancing for over 40 years I can't take what they have done to a great scene it's f..... Time to say good bye
you will never understand mate , i will always love the music its the scene that i no longer care for or lets just say what its now become , i was at wigan when the film crew came in and i can tell you their was murder over it no one wanted to be on it , it went against everything that was good about this dance scene now its the complete opposite young people wanting to be a face , most now want to dj within months of going to venues its a joke in my day you had to earn your right to dj with owning top class records original only and before that most have spent a long time attending different venues , doubt you knew who booper was?is he was one of the best dancers at wigan on all the old this england clips anyway im sorry if you felt offended by what i wrote and i wish the young folks well i just wish they would do things the way we did and keep the traditional values that kept it going since the late 60's all the best paul
Don't worry Paul, not offended really. Only hurt for soul music, because it's sad to see anyone walk away from something so special. If that's the way you feel about the modern scene, that's fair enough, but let's face it, whether it's 1970 or 3070, it'll be the same things that will bring people on to the scene: wanting to feel closer to the music, wanting to be around other people who love it. I don't think young people on the scene are as attention-seeking as you think. Most just want to feel a part of the scene. I don't know Booper, I'm only just getting in to the scene, but my Mum and Dad probably do. My Dad was a soul DJ in the North West for 10-15 years - you probably don't know him (well, he wasn't a big name and tended to stick around Cheshire nights - not an attention seeker I guess!). Anyway, Paul, I hope you still enjoy the music and maybe give another few soul nights a go - I bet you'll enjoy it almost as much as you used to!
yes i do still go to venues and yes i'm more in to crossover and modern now even some of the more rarer funk , and i still dj lol yes good chance i will know your dad and he may be a little like me in that i don't go out my way really when it comes to big name dj's i know lots of lads that have cracking records but never get asked to dj hardly its dog eat dog out there and thats another story tit used to be about the records now its more to do with mates and who you know worst of all loads of creeping as well anyway im on my soap box here ill get off and enjoy what part of it you can thats what i now say all the best mate
Arggghhhhh dance teachers need to be in front of the learner. Please if you can do this again facing away so we don’t have to translate what you really mean.
If you go to a dance class in dance school, be it ballet, jazz or hip hop you will find the teacher facing the students , never with back to students. The only time I've ever seen teachers doing back-to-student demonstrations is in ballroom partner dances.
why does this make me so angry? It shouldn't but it does. I suppose harmless twats like him are only trying to help. 1st. Nobody danced like that in the era when soul clubs were great. 2nd. Do your own thing, you don't want to look like everyone else. 3rd. the best dancers changed their moves every week or two.4th. the whole thing died a horrible embarrassing death in 1975/6. It was a great Youth Movement that has turned into a ridiculous pastiche of itself, full of old fools bleating "KTFKTF ktf ktf" and chucking talcum powder about (why)? as they shuffle about to pop records like "that's not love" (no, its shit) by holly st james, judy street etc etc.and various unreleased stuff(ever wonder why it wasn't released in the fist place?) like Frank Wilson...Ohh man, just typing this has really pissed me off! Anyway Ktf to you sad ol' DIVS. and if you have to do this at least you have the decency to do it at Butlins in Wales, so it's not all bad. just 98% of it. now FUCK OFF AND DIE.
