It is about time Northern Soul is plugged more. There is a lot of happy energy given off where Northern Soul is concerned. Which a lot of us need. Rather than negative energy.
What a brilliant show! These performances should be released on an album, a fantastic celebration of brilliant uplifting music. If you don’t know northern soul then watch this!
I watched this with my dad and my lovely wife. As my wife and myself love Northern Soul. My dad kindly recorded this last Sunday for me. As he knows just how much I love Northern Soul. My dad is not into pop music of any kind. As he is 83 years old as was brought with classical and easy listening music. So mainly watches the Proms. I was surprised on how much our dad was enthralled with the Northern Soul Proms. My wife and I really enjoyed this show. We were foot tapping and singing to a lot of the songs. As I have a lot of Northern Soul music which majority of the songs I have and play a lot. Especially when we are away somewhere with our caravan.
It's 50 years since I first head the beat of Northern Soul, in the Catacombs Wolverhampton. The voices of my beloved Otis Redding, Marvin Gaye, Jerry Butler, and more, were swept away by this magical sound, were mt feet left the ground for hours. Now in my 70s, very much wiser, and educated, the sad inequality, segregation, of young folk like myself, stuck in a monotonous Grove, was a bewildering enigma, until I read large doses of history and politics.. what's amazing, looking back at those days, is the enormous talent released by folk, who had little to hope for. Sadly so many Midland and northern areas, since the glory days of this invigorating music's heyday, have been once again neglected. However I do have faith in young folk, however many obstacles block their paths in life's highway, to reach their goals.
What cracks me up is that some of the greatest classical musicians in the world are smiling past themselves because the audience is so receptive and having a ball, whereas a classical audience normally sits in judgement of their playing. The band is having a better time than the audience! Bach it ain't.
Hi guys,I live in Devon now, but….wat a treat to see this ,I know Pete tongue has done it,but,to see this was realy special,ha,keep the faith guys, cheers.
You can't talk about Northern soul clubs without mentioning The Torch, The Cats, Vava`s & Cleethorpes, and more ... The Soul scene had been going around 6 years before Wigan opened, Yet people think that's when it started ...
Spot on that man, I remember hearing a guy at Cleethorpes saying "Wigan is where the real soulies send their kids whist they come here for the real music"
If you haven't yet I encourage you to listen to Radio 3's coverage of the Prom. Absolutely ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ to presenter Georgia Mann, her enthusiasm was so electric and when Stuart Maconie during the interval mentioned that he was surprised no one's thrown talc down yet Georgia enthusiastically and inquisitively wants to know what he meant and so Stuart explained it to her, really endearing! 😁 Plus, you get a bonus 2 & ½ tracks played during the interval. Well worth a listen! I'm still getting over the fact that I happened to hear Radio 3 play "Take Me to The River" by Al Green during an interval around 3/4 years ago, nevermind Radio 3 covering a Northern Soul prom, I thought they would've handed it off to Radio 2 or 6Music, fair play to em'! 👍👍
@@Darkhorse1909 I've not heard the 6music edit, (I hope they've kept Georgia Mann's presentation of the prom), but I have been listening to the Northern Soul All Nighter from Saturday starting with Craig Charles and Richard Searling. Currently up to the Russ Winstanley set, only another 13/14 hours worth to go! 👍😉😁
Why were their only Black presenters ? Northern Soul was a prodominetly White Northern Working Class following ,their should have been DJs of the Time and Dancers from that Era But No the BBC tried to make it a Black Event. Black Music but a Mainly White Following
So they can't appreciate it? Do you think they might not have gone to the nights because they didn't feel safe at the time? Please. It's great music and who care's who's presenting? The music was great. I always wanted to go but didn't feel safe as a black female. KTF
